Chapter #5603 June 2008 Volume 4 Issue 6 KMC News Sponsored by Hal s Harley-Davidson (262) Meeting 1st Wednesday of the Month 7:00 p.m. New Berlin Ale House West Cleveland Ave. New Berlin Join us for social hour before the meeting starting from 6:00-7:00, and afterwards about 8:00-? From The Director s Chair I think summer is here at least that what the calendar tells me. Weather not withstanding, we are into our riding season so please be careful. People in cars tend not to watch for motorcycles as much in the early going. We have some great events coming this month. Please watch our website for the latest information. One upcoming event that is a personal favorite and not to be missed is the MDA Camp Ride. Along with the Burn Camp Ride in August, these are two of our most rewarding events. If you have never been on these rides please come out and join us. The kids are awesome. This year the MDA Camp Ride is June 11th. It is an open ride to all, police escorted to Kenosha County. We will leave the Dealership promptly at 5:30pm. Staging starts at 5pm. This is usually well attended and if you are inviting a guest be sure to get there early as waivers for this event are requested by the national office of MDA and need to be signed by all. This year the camp staff is serving brats and dogs to the bikers and Hal s will be distributing ride pins while supplies last. Jim McCaslin, President of The Harley- Davidson Motor Company will once again join us for the ride down, so let s show him and the kids some genuine KMC hospitality. Later this month don t forget the annual Fish Fry Ride, read more on that inside this newsletter. Lastly I would like to say Thank You to all the volunteers, Road Captains, L.O.H. and board members for your hard work. The Bike Show weather was against us and that was unfortunate because in my opinion we were never more prepared and ready to host a great event. Thanks again, without you we would not have such a great club. It is your club! If you have some ideas, suggestions, comments, please let us know, we are always open for it. Thanks again and please ride safe! We ll leave the Wintergreen Resort & Conference Center (where most of the KMC members are staying) at 9:00 AM. We ll ride some beautiful back roads while hitting Raffle Stops 68, 67, 59 & 60, then heading for home. If it sounds like fun, see you then! Dewey

L.O.H. Update! A Big THANK YOU to one and all that helped out with our food tent for the Bike Show!!! Our event this month will be at the Muskego Water Bug Ski show. Please check the website for directions or call me ( ). Next month will be Jazz in the Park in Waukesha. Anyone interested in participating in impromptu rides please get us your address and phone number. When I say us I mean my amazing sidekick, Dawn Makowski. We might just take off on bikes or in cars and go for an ice cream or make a raffle stop. Happy Birthday to Juli Ann Egide on June 20th. Wag more-bark less! Later folks...to be continued... Ellen Biker Down If you know of a member who needs a getwell wish or a mention of condolences, call Carl and Marylin Ganas and let them know. They will make sure a card goes out. KMC wants to let you know we re thinking about you at a time when those little things mean a lot. Call the Ganas at (414) FL Model Tire Pressures American Rider magazine interviewed Mike Manning from Dunlop. Regarding the Dunlop D402, the OE tire on Harley-Davidsons, they quoted him as saying, Harley will say run 36 psi in the front, and in the back 36 solo, 40 when you re two-up or with a load. We recommend 40 in the back all the time on the FLs. Good news - this makes life a little simpler for many of us. Ride Safe, Dewey 2 Let s Go Golfing Mark your calendars! It s time to start thinking about another KMC golf outing. This year we are set for August 10th that s a Sunday. We will again try to get 70 participants so we can do a shotgun start at 1:00 in the afternoon. All KMC members and family are welcome. Our $60.00 cost will include golf, cart, range balls, lunch and a trophy for the championship team. You can sign up at the chapter meeting or me at mark01dawn02@netzero.net or call FORE! Mark Knackert The Dry Riders meet the first Monday of the month at 6:45pm at Hal s. Get there before Hal s locks the door at 7pm. This is not an AA meeting. This is a support group and friendly conversation. It s a good thing. For more information, call Kirk at Hal s or Peter G. at (414) , peterg@valueadonline.com Check out our website at Fishy Fry Ride June 27th marks our Fantastic Fish Fry Ride put on by the Silver Spur Restaurant. Due to the devastating fire, which completely consumed the Restaurant, this year s Fish Fry & Ride will take place at the Waukesha Expo. The ride will be leaving Hal s promptly at 5:30pm- no later! Dinner will be served at 6:30pm. The delicious menu will include: Fish (of course), French Fries, Potato Pancakes, Cole Slaw, Applesauce, and Soda, Ice Tea or Coffee. The cost is only $13/person. There will only be 100 tickets sold for this event. Tickets will be available at Hal s and at the June Chapter meeting. To recap, only the first 100 people will be able to get tickets for the Fish Fry. This event takes place Rain or Shine. The Last Day to purchase tickets will be June 25th (Wednesday) or while they last! Which ever comes first! See you there!

Adopt-A-Highway Update The Adopt-a-Highway cleanup scheduled for May 11 was cancelled due to poor weather. Consistent rain and poor visibility made safety for volunteers an issue and we decided it was best for folks to stay home where it was warm and dry. A few people came out to Finn s and we appreciate their ruggedness but we felt it was best for all to call it a day and regroup on June 8, our next scheduled cleanup day. Remember we meet at Finn s Bar & Grill just east of the intersection of Highway 18 and Highway 83 at 0900 on the second Sunday of the month. KMC provides bags, safety vests, and cleanup tools so just bring a good pair of gloves and suitable boots. See you there in June! We had the best time again! Even the Heckman s came to town to join us. Again the food was absolutely wonderful and the service was outstanding. They were very happy to see their Harley Group show up again and they want us back soon! Due to not enough weekends in June we won t be having an Unbrunch. Or should I say, what would have been a brunch since it s time for riding! Roxanne Thank You We all thank the troops for protecting us. We all thank the police officers for a safe escorted ride. Now when was the last time anyone went up to one of our wonderful Road Captains and thanked them for a safe ride? When did you thank them for giving up their personal time to plan the beautiful rides we take when they escort us there? These guys do a lot of hard work for every member of the chapter on their own time. If you think about it they are sort of like our own personal police. They escort our rides, talk with the police when they escort us, they patrol and do a lot of work at the bike show. A lot of them were there all day on Friday and Saturday! They get the poker stops that we all enjoy doing and again they do this on their own time. Now, the next time you see them give them a BIG THANK YOU for all their help because without them we wouldn t have safe & beautiful rides to do! Roxanne 3

This June 1998 article is just fitting since we have an Adopt-a-Highway Update in here this month! The efforts to keep our highways clean is a tradition! - Roxanne DIRTY DITCH SEEKS KMC MEMBERS FOR CASUAL PICK-UP (No romance required) The June Adopt a Highway pickup is scheduled for Sunday, June 28th. Same place, Fox River Inn (Hwy 164, just Blast From The Past south of Big Bend) at 9:00 a.m. Not all of us will be on the brunch ride, so the rest of us need to show up at the Fox River Inn. With 20 people, we can have the cleanup done in less than an hour and then join the lunch ride. If you have any questions, please call ZZ at We look mighty cute in our orange vests out there! Maybe ZZ will plan a ride from the Fox out to Merton? Who knows... Sherry GREAT T.V. AUCTION, May I Help You? Great T.V. Auction, may I help you, Great T.V. Auction, may I help you, Great T.V. Auction, may I help you? Okay, you probably get the point by now, but for some reason I can t get this phrase out of my head. The next questions is: what do Johnsonville Brats, Elegant Farmer deserts, someone impersonating a magician, men in kilts, and a night of fun all have in common? Well for those that attended, it spells out a great volunteer event and entertainment for all who participated recently on the night of April 25th to man the phones in support of Milwaukee Ch. 10 Public Television. The night began with a yummy dinner provided to all volunteers of brat-burgers (no, not a typo here) and other items including desert from Elegant Farmer. Then it was time to get serious as we watched a short training video on how to answer the phone and log a bid. After that, the proud volunteers of KMC HOG took to the phones to do our chapter proud and ensure no bid went unanswered. No matter how many times you told the caller on the line the bid just jumped dollars, they still only wanted to increase their bid by 1.00 dollar!!! Next came the option to be a Table Captain. Not to be confused with being a Road Captain by any means. Not sure if being a Table Captain translates to being a T.V. star? But for my money it did on the night of April 25th. Did I mention men in kilts? Yes, another group of volunteers were showing their Irish pride by wearing traditional kilts. Let s just say it s best nobody dropped a pen or pencil if you know what I mean!!! All in all this was a great night of entertainment. At times it can be hectic, as when they show an item that is a STEAL, be ready to grab that phone when that happens. The information, support and laughter provided by the staff of volunteers from Ch. 10 and fellow chapter members made this a great event and something everyone should look forward to participating in next year. Mark A. McClain 2nd Shifters Meetings are the Thursdays after the regular Chapter meetings. 10:30am at Hal s. Call Jim Pawlak (262) for more information 4

What The State HOG Rally Was Like Back Then STATEWIDE H.O.G. RALLY JUNE 23-24, 1990 The place will be Black River Falls. Headquarters is at Arrowhead Lodge. The activities will take place at the same place. The tentative price will be $20.00 per person. Pre-registration includes special pin, t-shirt, banquet, dance, and field events. You must be pre-registered to receive the t-shirt, special pin, and banquet. There maybe some changes but this is pretty solid. I suggest if you plan on attending you get your reservations NOW! Lessons From A Biker Food For T he Soul It takes more love to share the saddle than it does to share the bed. The only good view of a thunderstorm is in your rearview mirror. Never be afraid to slow down. Don t ride so late into the night that you sleep through the sunrise. Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of gas before you can think straight. Riding faster than everyone else only guarantees you ll ride alone. EHO Your Real Estate Consultant for Life!
