President s Message by Bob Olson, Club President President s Message, June 2016 President s Message, June 2016: Mid-year reflections. It seemed timely that at our mid-year I recap a few subjects: Our treasury is solid, allowing us to support some of our activities to help offset their costs. The JagWyre is published regularly, and we are considering submitting it to JCNA for a possible award in The Board is debating selecting one place to meet monthly or to continue to move around to several restaurants. Given recent experiences, wherever we eat and meet the facility must have a formal meeting room. Membership remains at 36, but we must do more to return ourselves to about 50. Following Ed Stoll s initial lead, I have followed up with about 10 JCNA Members-at-Large (MAL) in our general area. I wonder if JCNA should require local club membership as a condition of joining, thereby eventually eliminating MALs. I have contacted 8 recent names that came to my attention from various sources and hope to hear from some of them soon. I will be recontacting former members as well. Work is underway to redesign our website, to develop a display for Sacramento Jaguar s showroom, and to produce a new locally oriented brochure. Our wide range of activities continue to be fun and interesting. We hope to see more of you at these events be they baseball games, picnics, drives, wine tastings, antique trolley rides, or visits to places like the Avenue of the Giants near the Redwood National Park. We learned from our delegates to JCNA s Annual Meeting that we (yes, WE) are the only club in the US that has restoration and repair of members cars underway all of the time. Since it is unique, we talking about submitting an article about this activity to the Jaguar Journal. Steve Veirs will be our Acting President for the June 16 meeting. I will see you in July. I WELCOME ANY COMMENTS YOU HAVE ABOUT THESE OR OTHER ITEMS THAT YOU BELIEVE MAY CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN THE SJC. JagWyre, June 2016 Page 2 of 12

The Jaguar Recovery Team Report by Jim Collipriest 1953 XK120 FHC (Howie), Project VII. Report XXXI Pursuit of leaks con9nues (will it never end?). On the posi9ve side, electrical problems with the igni9on warning and turn indicator lights were resolved. Also a replacement sheet metal part has been fabricated for the driver s side door using the passenger door part as a pacern. The right rear wing (fender) was successfully mounted with the proper heavy wel9ng. Howie was then trailered to a California Highway Patrol office for vehicle iden9fica9on number (VIN) verifica9on. Missing part fabricated for driver s side door. Howie visiting the CHP for VIN verification. Jim s attention to detail! Wally & Jim molding the metal sheet piece. JagWyre, June 2016 Page 7 of 12
The Jaguar Recovery Team Report by Jim Collipriest 1958 Mark IX Saloon, Project VIII. Report XXVI As with Howie, the stainless steel exhaust system for the Mark IX had to be adjusted. The down pipes interfered with the lower block flange, the left suspension torsion bar and each other. Clearances were achieved by heating and bending at three different places. Another problem was that the outlet stub of the down pipes (the extension behind the flex section) had been made from the wrong size tubing. It should have been 1-3/4 ID to slip over the 1-3/4 OD next section. This was resolved by using a pair of 1-3/4 ID couplings and 4 additional clamps. And finally, over 18 had to be cut out of the system to keep it from sticking out behind the rear bumper. Down pipes interfered with everything. Adjusted down pipes installed successfully. Incorrectly manufactured forward joint. All sections installed with hangers. Sounds great. JagWyre, June 2016 Page 8 of 12
The Jaguar Recovery Team Report by Jim Collipriest Jaguar Recovery Team Report 1985 XJ6, Project XI Report II On all three steering rack mounting points, the side shoulders of the rubber bushings were completely missing. This allowed nearly 5/8 of end travel before wheel motion occurred. The most difficult task was extracting the outer steel shell of the failed bushings. Installation of the polyurethane bushings was a snap in comparison. Right side with failed bushings Right side with Polyurethane bushings installed. A new problem was noted: the brake fluid warning light was staying on. Examination revealed that Michael had replaced the cap and switch assembly. Further examination revealed that the float had sunk because it was ½ full of brake fluid. We are now searching for a substitute float, they are not sold separately. They come with a complete reservoir assembly. Maybe Pic-n-Pull? Brake fluid low level warning switch float. Half filled with fluid. JagWyre, June 2016 Page 9 of 12

Laguna Seca Corral Roland Quintero Carmel, Monterey, Pebble Beach.Names that resound every year in August. Fellow SJC Drivers and Lovers, Usually ending up as A Summer to Remember It is a fortunate that we are starting early this year we have multi-club sponsorship, national interest for our Laguna Seca Corral, and expect an outstanding turnout at this super summer driving event. Some of the clubs will plan a weekend drive to make it even better and a prime event for the year for jaguars. Others will come a longer way, from Utah thru Arizona. There is an Arizona group forming. Inquire and I will put you in touch. The Mazda event is Friday Saturday and Sunday. Parking in the corral is good for all the days of the event for one charge of $25. To go to any event one needs to Buy an event ticket for whatever days they wish to go. Saturday is the main day for Jaguar car races with practice driving to sessions on Friday for those that are racing events are also on Sunday. It is suggested that the clubs drive to within a couple hours of Laguna Seca, arriving prior to or on Friday, have a leisurely breakfasts, drive and arrive at the track around 9 or 10 for the main racing events, visit the Jaguar booth, and if lucky talk with Jay Leno or our Jaguar designer Ian Callum who I was able to chat with last year if you timing is right and just enjoy the warm weather. The event this year will be taking place August st. It is called the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion and it is great. See the two articles in the Nov-Dec issue of the Jaguar Journal or the October Jagazette of the JAG Club. You can contact me asap for special $25 parking in the Jaguar Corral and for discounted pricing for event tickets. The first part of April I attended the JCNA AGM and The International Jaguar Festival in Scottsdale and publicized it to all regional reps. The reception attracted much interest. We had 20 slots available, a few are left, and they have always filled fast as members come from Los Angeles, San Diego and as far as Utah for this event. The deadline of July 10th is fast approaching. Because it is such a desired event that we can steal some extra spots from the Astin Martin Corral. Pebble Beach and other concours runs from Tuesday thru Sunday with the Pebble Judging on Sunday so you can also participate on any of the other days seeing the many other venues that are happening. I will also be filling you in with website info to help your planning Just let me know and you will get one of the desired parking spots and receive a 10% discount on your choice of 1-4 day general admission tickets purchase. rolquinmac@me.com or call My Cell is always on.
