1 SONS OF NORWAY MANDT LODGE NEWS AUGUST- SEPTEMBER 2009 MANDT LODGE STOUGHTON, WI Fra Presidenten- Darlene Arneson As we move into the latter part of the summer, the lodge list of things we wanted to get done seems to have a few items left on it! It has been nice having a little break from the crazy schedule our lodge had in April, May and June. But now it s time to focus back on the business that needs to be taken care of. As we looked at our finances at the last meeting, the decision to have a garage sale/pancake breakfast seemed to be a good way to bring in some income during a typical slow month. We hope you can support this activity! I am also enclosing a donation form that you can use if you d like to give a donation to the lodge or building corporation. Other items on the to do list including inviting people to join the lodge, starting a nominating committee as we have officer elections this fall, and working on some building projects before winter sets in. I hope that your lists at home are getting accomplished and that you can find time to help the lodge out with our list! Darlene Arneson, President Masse Moro Participants August 8 marks the last day of Masse Moro- Norwegian Heritage Camp held at Fall Creek. This is the District s youth camp and involves two weeks of Norwegian language, cultural activities, sports and other great activities! This year s campers from Mandt Lodge were Kier and Jade Kristiansen, grandchildren of Jan and Nancy Kristiansen. We look forward to a presentation of their camp experience at a future meeting! Scholarships Congratulations to Natasha Amundson who was selected to receive the $500 Mandt Lodge Scholarship. Natasha is from a small village in west-central Ukraine. She attended the State University of Odessa and has a Master's Degree in Economics. She is currently going to school at UW-Whitewater for a degree in Accounting. Natasha has learned how to rosemal and in 2006, won 2 nd place in the Wisconsin State Rosemalers competition during 17 Mai with the very first piece she ever rosemaled! Natasha will receive the scholarship check at our January meeting. Jens Arneson was the recipient of the District 5 Sons of Norway Cy Wittrock Book Scholarship. The $300 scholarship is in memory of past District President Cy Wittrock. Jens also received the 2009 $1050 King Olav V Norwegian-American Scholarship from the Sons of Norway Foundation. Jens will be a freshman at UW-Madison majoring in Soil Science and Scandinavian Studies. He is currently serving as the Mandt Lodge Youth Director. Member Feature We would like to continue our member feature at our lodge meetings. I am asking members that have a craft or skill that they would like to demonstrate and share with others to sign up. We ll have one per month that lasts about 15 minutes. This is a great way to learn more about our members, their interests, skills and other hobbies they may have! Contact Darlene Arneson to volunteer for the August, September or October meetings.

Contact lannia@namiwisconsin.org for reservations. Didn t get a chance to help at 17 Mai or other fundraising events? Did April, May and June slip by and you didn t have a chance to help with any lodge fundraising activities during that time? Our lodge had over 40 member families that didn t participate in our 17 Mai event in any way. That makes a huge difference in our profit for the event. We missed you! But you can still help support Mandt Lodge by making a donation to the lodge or to the building corporation. Those three months were our most concentrated fundraising time period and we really depended on members to step up to help with their time, food donations and financial donations. Thank you to those that did! If you missed that chance, then you still have the opportunity to help and we d greatly appreciate it! So if you were one of the 40 that missed the chance, please consider filling out this form and sending it in to help with our financial obligations and lodge programs and activities. Name Donation Amount $ Please make checks to: Sons of Norway Send them to: Jane Conner, 405 Moe Circle,, WI 53589
