5 Idun Lodge Program We had an from Idum Lodge member Mary Zoroufy about a program they will be hosting. A date hasn t been set yet but we will send it out on when it is confirmed. Here s what I know The program is: "Kampf um Norwegen" (The Battle of Norway) and is a German documentary film of the invasion of Norway 1940 Norway recently found the German film and with the ok of Germany edited it and made copies. The first copy went to the Queen of England. Marcus has a copy and thought it would be an interesting program for us. We will do it on a Sunday afternoon about 1:30 and invite neighboring lodges to see it and have refreshments and discussion afterwards. The film is 80 minutes. Commonweal Theatre Company presents: Hedda Gabler by Norweigian playwrite Henrik Ibsen Thursday, April 9th 7:30pm Tickets $20/$18 At the Stoughton Opera House! Order your tickets now by calling Henrik Ibsen once said, "Find out who you are and become that person," because, "To realize yourself is the highest goal a person can attain." Self realization was Ibsen's super-objective. To find that selfrealization was the main theme of his play Hedda Gabler. A masterpiece of world drama, this gripping Norwegian classic, Ibsen masterfully portrays the main character, Hedda, as neither a monster nor a saint she is simply a tragic character who is destroyed by the unharmonious and irreconcilable contrasts within herself. A spider that gets caught in her own web. Ultimately, Hedda is neither good nor evil, but in the end, she inevitably digs her own grave. Henrik Ibsen, born 1828 in the little Norwegian village of Skien, was the founder of modern prose drama and is known for his realistic political and social commentaries. His plays were filled with realistic portrayals of women and ordinary people and their troubles in modern society. This special evening at the Stoughton Opera House we find some of Henrik Ibsen's most memorable prose in a tragic interplay of psychoscape and linguistic drama. To learn more about Norwegian dramatist Henrik Ibsen ~ The Commonweal Theater, based in Lanesboro, MN, is the only theatre company in North America with a commitment to annually producing the works of Henrik Ibsen; the Commonweal is thrilled to present this gripping drama as it s 12th Ibsen production. ~ 17 Mai Plans for 2009 The officers finalized a proposal for 17 Mai food stand, bake sale, and inside food sales times at the January 6 meeting. This will be voted on at the January meeting so we have info for the 17 Mai Food Stand Meeting. Details on food need to be discussed at the next 17 Mai meeting. The proposed schedule is listed below. Food Stand Hours: Friday 2-8, Saturday 10-6 and Sunday 11-4 Inside Food Sales and Bake Sale: Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 11-1 Mat Klub Our cooking club will meet on Sunday, January 18, at 1:00 PM, to prepare a Norwegian meal. We select a menu ahead of time, do the shopping, split the grocery bill, and have a great meal. If you d like to participate, be sure to sign up by the January 14 meeting as we ll shop after that! All members and other interested people can attend!
