2 A WORD ON SAFETY FROM GRAHAM MUNSELL Ah ha, Riding season is upon us! What preparations are you suggesting to your riders this spring? Our riding skills become quite dull and forgotten. Is there a refresher course scheduled in your district or area? Have you shared the needs of your group with the trainers and educators? ARC or TRC, both or other classes? Equally important maintenance before riding is going through your ride to ensure your motorcycle and equipment are in tip top shape. A great beginning point is using the following TCLOCK checklist from GWRRA: N.18GWRRATrikeCheckVersion_2011_06.pdf N.19GWRRATrailerCheckVersion_2011_06.pdf N.21GWRRASidecarRigCheckVersion_2011_06.pdf. What about the condition of your electronics, i.e. CB, navigation system, music system, heated grips/seats and heated clothing. Other important matters include your personal health, your eyesight, your hearing and re-evaluate your old, changed and new medications you may now need. How do the meds and supplements affect your alertness while riding? What side effects might occur to interfere with your riding skills if you forget to take them or lose them? Consult closely with your doctor and pharmacist to clarify your knowledge, for your safety as well as the safety of the group. Graham Munsell, Oregon District Educator, Region I, GWRRA

3 Oregon District News David and I spent two weeks in the beautiful sunny weather in Arizona, and visited the Home Office. We had a great visit with the staff and bought some new merchandise for the 40 th anniversary. Spring is here and it is time to ride, if the weather would let us. On April 2, we are having a district workshop in The Dalles to discuss the Oregon Rally, Regional Rally and other District issues. Now for some upcoming Chapter rides, OR-G is having the Right Turn Ride coming up the 29th of April, OR-H is having the 4 th Annual Shriners Ride for Children June 3rd and the District Rally June David and I are planning out our trip across Canada and the East coast, we are leaving around May 15, if anyone would like to join us on any portion of the trip. 4 Trent s Talk On Saturday March 11th, we had 10 members attended the Fireman's Breakfast in Brooks. Attending Fireman s breakfasts are a great way to support these local fire departments. They are often going to be the ones responding if one of us experiences an incident while we are enjoying our rides on all of the back roads that lead us to FUN. On March 18th, we headed to Oregon City for Chapter I s annual Blarney Ride. This wonderful event combined a great ride, some good food and a friendly rivalry between Chapter G and Chapter I to see would donate the most canned goods to the Oregon City HOPE program. While this is a friendly challenge between Chapters, the real winners of the challenge are the recipients of the HOPE program. Thanks to everyone who was able to donate to this wonderful program. Are you ready for the Right Turn Ride? We have been busy finalizing all of the details. If you haven t done it yet, mark your calendars for April 29th. Yes, April 29th, is when the Right Turn Ride is going to take place. We are starting at Cycle Country in Salem, Oregon. See flier for more details. We have started collecting door prizes for the Right Turn Ride. If you have any door prizes, you may drop them off with any of the Chapter team members at the planning meeting or at the Gatherings. Check out the calendar and April Happenings for a full list of what s going on in April. We are looking forward to seeing you at one or more of our upcoming activities. 5 Directors Corner... Hi friends, I'm setting in sunny North Dakota it and it must be at least 40 degrees here but there are people riding. We plan to head toward Hermiston about the 12th to get ready for the Pop Brown Memorial. After that ride we are off to Las Vegas. If you are going. be sure to make reservations in Welles for the 28th. We will set the departure time at the April meeting. The Traveling Vietnam Wall is coming to Pasco in May. The sponsors are asking for a Motorcycle escort. Details are with the poster. I would like to have as many bikes as possible Rally Point will be at the 911 Memorial on Highway 385 in Kennewick. I suspect you will want to be there between 1300 and 1330 (1 PM to 1:30 PM on the 24th of May... John and Marlis Patrick

6 Chapter Directors Corner Is it April already? Where did March go? Of course I think we had more rain than ever before here, it was definitely a washout when it came to riding. Avoiding the new lakes in the road, potholes all the way to China, rivers that rerouted themselves down the highway, and landslides that closed major and minor roads for weeks. Did you see that gigantic boulder that closed Hwy. 138? The chapter held its annual Blarney Run and Food Donation for the H.O.P.E. program on March 18th at the Oregon City United Methodist Church. We had 12 souls brave the torrential rain and come on out to participate. There were 3 super riders on their bikes! One of the co-riders was so wet well, you get the idea. This year we donated pounds of food!! We also donated $ This years winner was Oregon Chapter G with 398.6# of food. Washington Chapter X brought in 108# of food, and Chapter I donated 247.6#. Our group of participants decided to take a Mulligan for this ride, and will redo it on Saturday April 8th after the Chapter Breakfast Gathering. This is the time of year when we start to plan for rides and rallies. Included this month are a few flyers of upcoming events. Look them over and see what you would like to do this summer. Your participation in your chapter is very important to provide you, the member, with the things you want from GWRRA. We try hard to provide opportunities for Fun, Friendship and Knowledge. But we also want to have things for Family to do. Give us your ideas and lets do fun things for all of our members! Hope to see you at our next breakfast gathering, and we also hope that you will join us for our first combined chapter gathering in May. 7 Join us for a Combined Chapter Gathering! On May 13 th, at 8:30am, Chapter OR-G and Chapter OR-I are holding a combined Chapter Gathering at the Woodburn RV Park located at: 115 N. Arney Rd. Woodburn We start the morning off with breakfast consisting of Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, Ham, Fresh Fruit, Biscuit, Coffee and Juice. The cost of the breakfast will be $7.00. Once breakfast is done, we will start the meeting. You will be able to find out what is happening in the Chapters, the District and the Region. To ensure there will be enough food, our cooks need a headcount of those who plan on attending this Gathering. We have finalized the details of our 2017 Rally to be held in Great Falls, MT on July The US Air Force Thunderbirds are scheduled to fly on the 22 and 23. We have already made arrangements with Dicks RV Park to host all you campers, and we have also finalized the details with the Crystal Inn to get you the best price possible. You can go ahead and make your reservations at the Hotel and Campground using Goldwing as your reservation code. The cutoff date for the block we have set up is May 1, 2017 at both places. Engine has been rebuilt, new brakes, new exhaust, basically everything has been touched to many things to list. It will need a new battery.
