I m not going to name names because I will inevitably forget someone, but each of you are appreciated for what you contribute to the success of our organization.

Darryl & Nancy have done a great job arranging for the hotel, caterers and the dinner cruise.

You may also want to start collecting items for the Chinese Auction. That was a huge hit last year.

1 Jan-Feb-Mar 2019 On The Road Again Greetings Retread Friends, I would like to start this year by saying THANK YOU to everyone who helped or participated in some way, large or small, to make 2018 a great year in Western PA. I m not going to name names because I will inevitably forget someone, but each of you are appreciated for what you contribute to the success of our organization. Even though it s cold outside, it s never too soon to start making plans for the summer riding season. Many rally reservation forms are already out and you ll find them in this newsletter and on our website. Plans are also well underway for our 2019 Western PA Rally. New this year will be a Dinner Cruise option aboard the Victorian Princess, an authentic paddle wheel boat. Darryl & Nancy have done a great job arranging for the hotel, caterers and the dinner cruise. Now, I m looking for volunteers to help with registration, the hospitality room and rides so be thinking about where you could volunteer to help. Don t assume, someone else will do it! You may also want to start collecting items for the Chinese Auction. That was a huge hit last year. I am always looking for stories about Retread events, your travels, whether they are on a bike or in a car, concerns for members, classifieds to sell, buy or trade, events that may be of interest, thank you notes you may want to share, requests for help for Retread events, pictures or any other items of interest you want other Retread members to know about, to put in our newsletters. You can , mail or call me with anything you may have. I ll be watching my or mailbox for your submissions. The next newsletter will go our around the beginning of April. To all my Retread friends, I wish you a Happy, Healthy, 2019 with safe travels wherever this year may take you. 2 2018 RETREADS WINTER BANQUET Contributed by Kathy Wilcox It is now a tradition: our Retreads Winter Banquet was held at the Fox Street Church of God in Franklin Pa. for the fifth year in a row and will likely be held there again next year. The reasons are obvious; it is a great venue- private, with no steps, a paved parking lot and wonderful, homemade food! The Fox Street Church ladies graciously donate their time to prepare a delicious meal and then donate the profits to their mission fund. What a win-win situation! 32 Retreads enjoyed roast beef and baked chicken, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables, coleslaw, applesauce, salad, rolls, Jell-O and cherry cake topped off with bottomless coffee & punch. The first Retreads to register, Ray and Darlene Phillips, got to be the first in line for the food!!! Another tradition which we have continued is bringing items to help a local charity. This year, we filled a box with 14 packages of baby diapers and 19 packages of wipes for the Pregnancy Center of Meadville. Kim Docter continues to do a great job organizing the party and always finds new games to challenge our brains. This year was the most difficult - the Christmas word search for 18 words should have been easy, but even those who were fast could not find the last word. Joan Tejchman saved the day when she discovered itwith a miss-typed letter! Great detective work, Joan! The other challenge was guessing how many pieces of peppermint candy were in a red Christmas bucket without going over the actual count. Don and Connie Miller s granddaughter: Jazline was an easy winner who guessed 35. Kim had a planned twist on this game! She told Jazline, she could choose a prize from the prize basket or take home the bucket of candy. Jazline chose a gift and then Kim announced that the person who had the highest number won the booby prize. Ken Tejchman guessed 273 so he got the bucket. But when he opened it to get a piece of candy out, he was pleasantly surprised to find a $10 Subway gift card buried in the candy. Good one Kim!!!! Another Retread favorite is the Chinese auction. We bring our new, used or recycled items to donate and take home other new, used and recycled items. The real challenge actually, is to find something to bring, and then to remember if it is something that we won at a Chinese auction at the summer picnic or at our party last year!!! There are always a vast array of gifts to choose from, including multiple different Christmas items such as a mug with candy, crystal angel salt and pepper shakers, candles, door decorations an advent candle ring, tea lights, candles, ornaments, a tiny tree and a Christmas pillow. Christmas items were won by Joyce Snodgrass, Virginia Docter, Judy Neal, Marge Furka, Judy Grossman and Joan Tejchman, Larry Snodgrass and Connie Miller. Snacks are popular, and peanuts and other snack items were won by Don Grossman, Ron Kranz, Dave Wilcox and candy which was won by Laura Bloom. Denny Archer was delighted to take home one of John Docter s famous bird feeders. He said he has been trying to win one for years and finally succeeded! Duane and Betty Jones again donated their lovely homemade items of leather and crochet which went home with happy winners. Other unique items were a box of 22 shells won by Dave Wilcox, a rapid apple peeler won by Judy Grossman, a mini screw driver set won by Joyce Snodgrass, digital meters won by Darlene Phillips and Don Miller, and knick-knacks won by Judy Grossman. A cracker tray went home with Betty Jones, who also won a basket of motorcycle cleaning items. A nice flashlight was claimed by Laura bloom. A basket full of snacks went home with Judy Kotz. Two beautiful tote bags were donated and won by myself and Joyce Snodgrass. There were many, many more gifts donated and won, I just did not get them all written down! There was however, an anonymous donation of an unopened jar of Orange flavored Metamucil. It sat and waited for tickets to be put in its bucket, but none were. It disappeared anonymously as well. We all silently acknowledged that though we probably COULD use it, no one would admit it. Guess we are not that old yet!!! A beautiful afghan crocheted by Darlene Phillips was the main door prize along with a $25 Visa gift card. Duane and Betty Jones happily went home with the afghan and Darlene won the Gift card!!! Other prizes were a free Mid-Atlantic Retread Rally registration which was won by Laura Bloom and the Early bird 2019 Retread member registration refund was won by my husband, Dave and I. It was a wonderful day to eat good food, relax, chat, and enjoy the company! Many thanks to Kim Docter and Darryl and Nancy Boleratz for organizing a great party. We look forward to spring when all can get the bikes out of the garage and get On the Road Again, until then, God Bless!!
