1 Temescal Palms Masonic Magazine TB No. 314 F&AM July 1, 2018 Volume XX, Issue 6 FROM THE MASTER Hello all, greetings from the East! It's a bit ironic typing that because as I write this article, I'm about as far west as you can be. I'm sitting on a balcony facing the beach sipping a cup of coffee. The girls are asleep inside and my wife is here next to me. This week, my family and I are on vacation and we are at one of our favorite places...the beach! Unfortunately, Jordan couldn't make it because he has to work but, I'd venture to guess that having the house all to himself is bit of a vacation for him. July is gearing up to be busy month, or rather, a 'regular' month because it's not often when our lodge isn't busy. At our July stated meeting, we will be voting on a dispensation to hold our August stated meeting on the first Saturday morning of that month. This is something Worshipful Dave Stiles had started in hopes of bringing brother's to stated who aren't able to come on a week night. We will be having a stated meeting breakfast that morning. And, as you will read in our secretary's article this month, reservations are IMPORTANT. On Wednesday, July 4 th, we will be celebrating Independence Day. Bro. Dale and his wife, Mrs. Edna Fisher, have secured a spot in the parade, as they normally do, and this year we, as Masons, will be in the parade jointly as the Masonic Family. All brothers are welcomed to join. We will be having a breakfast that morning in the dining hall at 6am. "The Hat" will be placed by the door, donations are encouraged, but not required. We will be making our way to Ontario Ave. to line up for the parade at roughly 8:30am. If you will be joining us, please wear black slacks and white lodge polos. Later in July, the officer's will be qualifying in the 2nd degree for next year. This will relieve the end of the year rush to qualify that many lodge's find themselves in and will take pressure off of our inspector's shoulders. June found Bro. Roy Stewart in surgery for his knee. I'm happy to report he is recuperating well and even on the day after his surgery the nurses had him up and at 'em. On his way out of rehab, he high-fived Worshipful Bob Barden who went into rehab after a fall. Please join me in wishing both brothers a speedy recovery. 2 FROM THE MASTER Early in the degrees of Masonry, we are taught about one of the working tools of an Entered Apprentice mason being the 24-inch gauge which we are taught to divide into 3 equal parts. One of the parts being for refreshment and repose. It sounds like one of the easiest things to do but, to some, it's not. Some people find it very easy to lay their tools down and take a break. Other's will lay their tools down and pick up others for another task, while others might put their tools down just to eat and sleep. I encourage all brothers to take some time for themselves and their family. It's important to recharge your batteries and change your head space and look inward to better one's self. On that note, the girls are asking for breakfast and are ready to dip their toes in the sand and the Pacific Ocean. I wish you all well look forward to seeing you... EDDIE RIVERA MASTER Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail. FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN Greetings from the West: 2 Once again, there is a lot going on within the Fraternity. Our members always look forward to Independence Day celebrations, and this year will be no different. On Wednesday, July 4, by 7:00 a.m., breakfast will be served at the Lodge. Plan to come early. There is no need to buy tickets or make a reservation; a donation will be requested at the door. Each year, the Job s Daughters make an effort to be in the Corona Independence Day Parade. This year, we are encouraging the entire Masonic Family to join in. All Brothers (of every degree) are encouraged to dress in black slacks and white collared T-shirt (with officers in their official T-shirts), and to bring their white lambskin aprons. (Aprons will be made available for those that require them.) At 8:30 a.m., clad in those aprons, the Brothers will walk North on Main Street, turn East onto Ontario, and join with Micheal Padilla and the Job s Daughters... and march in the parade. Do not miss out. The Independence Day festivities will continue in the evening when our families are invited to come to the Lodge to watch the City of Corona fireworks display. Plan to be at the Lodge a little before dusk. On Monday, August 6, at 7:00 p.m., Chuck Dunning will be the featured speaker of The Illumination Lecture Series. Mr. Dunning s talk is entitled Contemplative Work and Wages. This series is presented at the South Pasadena Masonic Temple. As you may recall, some of the Brothers from our Lodge have been going to these lectures. The historic South Pasadena Masonic Temple and Lodge facility is located at 1126 Fair Oaks Ave in South Pasadena. Parking is available in the back (which is accessed by way of an alley). The talks are given in the Lodge Room on the Second Floor. ->>>
3 Sometimes, I wear my sunglasses when I read so that people can t tell when I m sleeping. FROM THE SENIOR WARDEN (CONT D) Dinner is provided afterward on the Third Floor. There is no charge, but RSVP s to the South Pasadena Lodge are appreciated. On Saturday, August 11, at 11:00 a.m., the Ladies of the Lodge will be having an afternoon tea. All Ladies of the Lodge, daughters, granddaughters, nieces, female cousins, etc., are invited to attend. Reservations are required by August 4, Please see the attached flyer for additional information. Members are continuing to meet at the Lodge at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday evening. First Tuesday of every month is Stated Meeting Dinner. Reservations are encouraged. Every other Tuesday evening, we meet for snacks and fellowship. If you have been joining us, please continue to do so. If you have been away from the Lodge for a while, come on by any Tuesday evening between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m., get reacquainted with some of the old members, and meet some of the new members and their guests. I am continuing to reach out to the Entered Apprentice Masons and the Fellowcrafts to see how I might be of assistance in their progress through the degrees of Masonry. My goal is to make sure that everyone, particularly those that have degrees to complete, are connected to the Lodge. If we have yet to speak, or you have questions, feel free to contact me at my office ( ) or via (dickmanholt@earthlink.net). The second presentation of the Lodge System of Masonic Information, which addresses the Entered Apprentice Degree, is being planned for a Tuesday evening this August or September, as the Lodge calendar permits. Every member should attend. Details will be circulated soon. Fraternally, John G. Dickman, Senior Warden 3
