GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT It seems I m too busy to do half of the things I want to do. Last March I told myself I was going to at least two shows a month that isn t happening. The shows that I have attended have been very good. At the end of June we went to the Ohio Two-Cylinder Club show in Springfield, Ohio and, as always, they put on a great show. While out there we discussed the Two-Cylinder issue with some people from other clubs to get ideas how they are handling the name and logo issue. It is interesting to listen to other views on the subject. In this newsletter is a questionnaire. Please take a little time and respond to it. Your responses will help the board with their decisions. The annual pig roast is just around the corner same location, great food, and the best friends in the world. We will have a tractor ride before the pig roast, so if you want to see the country from the seat of a tractor, join us. ** There is a show in Waterloo, Iowa in early September sponsored by John Deere that promises to be one you don t want to miss. It will be at the exact location where most of our tractors were built (except for Herb Nelson all of his tractors were built in Dubuque). Our friends at John Deere have gone to a lot of work planning factory tours, a tractor ride, an evening banquet, hundreds of tractors on display, and an auction. I hope to see many of you there. I talked to Lanny Gray tonight and he has been combining his oats. That means another plow day is just around the corner. The timing may not work for a newsletter announcement, so call me ( ) or Lanny ( ) if you would like to join the fun. Plowers and watchers are both very welcome! As usual, I ramble on, so enough. HOPE TO SEE YOU AT THE NEXT CLUB EVENT! I m still looking for those undiscovered treasures. 2 Expo XX June 17-19, 2010 Waterloo, IA Herb Nelson reports that NEITCC was represented at this year s Expo with two tractors on exhibit. Drew Holmes had his 1953 model R diesel, and Herb Nelson exhibited his 1959 model 430 W. It was reported there were 70 more units on exhibit than in past years. Also attending were Ed and Mitzi Smith, Ed Wesemann, and Drew Holmes parents and sister. Next year s Expo will be held a week later (the 4 th week) in June. Drew Holmes with his 1953 Model R Diesel Herb Nelson s 1959 Model 430 W Here are a couple more pictures from the Expo. The first is a beautiful D with tracks, and the second shows the flood conditions after a downpour. About 2/3 of the exhibit floor was flooded. WATERLOO BOY REUNION John Hoffman, Paul Ziller and Rusty Lovins traveled to Chelsea, Michigan for the 6 th annual Waterloo Boy Reunion. Paul Bollinger, who owns Waterloo Boy tractors, Waterloo Boy stationary engines, Waterloo hit & misses and multiple tractors, puts on this show on his own farm. There were 26 Waterloo Boy tractors, 5 Waterloo stationary engines, one steamer sawing wood, plus all-color tractors and hit and misses. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks to Paul Bollinger for putting on a great show. Submitted by John Hoffman BARTLETT PARADE July 3, 2010 Lined up for the parade at 11:00 a.m. and the parade started at 1:00. New member Tim Collins was there with his 1941H John Deere Hand Start. This was a nice tractor. All members in the parade were: Tim Collins 1941 H Dennis Dunlap 1948 AR Richard Jensen Stacy Schrader 1950 A Wayne Jensen Submitted by Wayne Jensen 2

3 BLACKBERRY FARM PICNIC July 11, 2010 Without a doubt, this was one of the best family picnics the club has hosted. As you know from the July newsletter, a very large antique car show was being held at Blackberry that day, and that necessitated the relocation of our picnic to another area in the park. I think all or at least most of our attendees agreed that the park administrators did us a great favor by moving our group, for our area was filled with beautiful shade trees and green grass and was well-located in relation to parking and the many activities available there. It was a beautiful, sunny day for a picnic, and the dishes-to-pass were, as usual, awesome. Changing the date from Father s Day was the right thing to do, and you can count on that being the case in the future so plan now to join us next year. Our attendance this year was excellent, so let s see if we can t top it next year! Our location was a bit off the beaten path, so in order to draw attention to our tractor display we fastened our club banner to a fence, hung our club flag in a tree, and lined the walking path leading to our area with small United States flags that Dell Bransky had brought along. At the end of the day, she mentioned that she had no use for them any longer and would the club like to have them. We accepted them gratefully and you ll see them put to use at future events. Thanks Dell! Your flags were just the ticket to make our display special. Here s a list of the beautiful tractors shown that day: Ken & Jake Abel 1937 Model B Herb Nelson W Ken Reese 1950 B Bill Cunningham 1940 B Dennis Dunlap 1937 D John Hoffman 1941 Styled L Ed Wesemann 1931 GP Wayne Jensen Rich Bransky 1950 MT Tim Collins 1941 H Paul Ziller 1938 Unstyled L Bill Cunningham 1938 Unstyled L Art Benson Ford 3

4 Louis Toavs Estate Collection July 16 & 17, 2010 Wolf Point, Montana Upon getting the sale bill, we began making plans to attend the sale and make a family vacation out of the trip. After mapping out the trek of 1,100 miles and hotels limited, we decided to rent an RV and pick up the grandparents on the way through. This ended up being fortunate as we were delayed getting underway, the extra drivers and space were needed in order to drive straight through to make it on time for the start of the sale. Arriving at 4 am, we were only greeted by the all-too-familiar auctioneer signs directing us to a wheat field to park. Well, Montana doesn t have as many street lights as we re accustomed to, but it became obvious real quick when the bright high beams of the headlights shown an RV park grounds akin to a NASCAR event. After the long journey, everyone was quick to sleep. Unlike a scene from the movies where mornings on a farm are filled with the crowing of roosters, we were greeted at 5:30 am by a fly-by Piper Cub cruising within feet of our RV whilst landing. Several dozen more various aircraft followed suite, accompanied by the growl of Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke diesel engines. Thanks to those non-traditional alarm clocks, we had just enough time to get a first glance of most items strewn about 60 acres (by our estimates as gauged by the soreness in our legs). After meeting several family members, they shared the auction was Plan C. They had originally planned to sell the collection to a museum for $1M, but after a period of time the museum could not secure the funds. Last fall, the family decided on going the route of auction. There were roughly 22 members of the family that had been helping to set up for the auction the past 4 weeks, plus members of the Nixon auctioneers staff over this period. The sheer size of the event was simply amazing. We met so many good folk, shared stories, and learned lots. Following are just a few pictures of the sale lots; these were some of the highlights. He reviewed the course of events that brought us to this point, noting that the term twocylinder was registered by Two-Cylinder magazine with the U.S. Patent Department, making that organization the owner of the trademarked term. Clubs including that adjective in their names have been given until October 31, 2010 to remove the term or comply with the magazine s rule requiring that all club members subscribe to the Two-Cylinder magazine. A suggestion has been made that we propose a compromise with Two-Cylinder in which if an agreed upon percentage of total club members, such as 50%, are subscribers to the magazine, we would be allowed to include the term two-cylinder in our club name. There is certainly no guarantee that Two-Cylinder would even consider such a compromise, but it s worth a try. However, we must know how many of you are subscribers. If we re unsuccessful in our attempts to retain our current club name, we would like to hear your suggestions for a new one. Keep in mind that we would prefer keeping our unique logo, so a name change suggestion should use the letters NEITCC in the same order but with the TC standing for something other than two-cylinder. In order to determine the number of NEITCC members who subscribe to Two-Cylinder magazine, it s imperative that each and every member complete the brief form below and - MAIL IT TO SHELBY IN THE ENCLOSED ENVELOPE or - CONTACT BILL BY PHONE ( ) OR (DEEREBILL@LIVE.COM) WITH YOUR RESPONSE. Name Do you subscribe to Two-Cylinder magazine? My suggestion for a new name for NEITCC is YES NO 6
