1 A Message from Our President My fellow Fagowees, I go both ways now. I've been skiing for 4 seasons and decided it was time to try something new. While I was at Whitefish I took a couple of snowboarding lessons. It was great! Everyone told me it was harder to learn to snowboard than to ski but truthfully I fell fewer times my first time on a board than I did the first time on skis. It is a totally different experience. What I already knew about skiing didn't help me much. You go down the hill sideways for crying out loud! But it got easier for me after just a few runs. The instructor kept telling me just look where you want to go and eventually it worked. I made it off the bunny hill and rode the lift up to a green and actually got off without falling a few times. I got pretty good at riding heel side but toe side was still hard at the end of the second lesson. I don't know where I'll go from here. I'm certainly not ready to race on a board but after doing it a few more times I might give that a try. I'll keep skiing but I might do both for a while, maybe a long while. I'm getting better at skiing all the time and enjoying it even more than when I started. This sport keeps getting more expensive. Next thing I know I'll be buying a board and new boots. At least the boots are more comfortable. And you get to wear cooler clothes. Happy riding! Bill March 2015 The Newsletter of the Cleveland FaGowees

3 Congratulations to the Fagowee of the Month! Where should we start Other than the fact that her sweetheart thinks she is super awesome, we here at the Fagowees think she s pretty special too! While only in her second year with us, she decided to get more involved with the club by offering her services as a board member for the position of Publicity. As if her life isn t busy enough with her AVP role at Huntington and our board position, she has also busted her butt in school to hold almost a perfect 4.0. She has her heart set on snowboard racing this year and has picked up wakeboarding over the summer to try to help make her a better snowboarder. So don t be surprised to see her reach the podium this winter a few times, for she will be one force to be reckoned with in her class this season. When you see her at a meeting, pat her on the back, hoist a beer with her, and greet her resoundingly! She is or Fagowee-of-the-Month! Give a big cheer for. Lauren K! 3
4 FAGOWEE are going to Engelberg Switzerland March 6-15, 2015 Leaders- Marc and Lisl Vignerot Ground package: Ground package: Cost per person: $1310 (double) $1445 (single) Air will be priced individually but it is estimated approximately $1200- $1300/person depending on departure airport and time of booking. Ground Package includes: 7 Nights hotel at Terrace Hotel*** in the center of town on top of the mountain Breakfast every morning Dinner every evening Wine and water with dinner Transfers from ZRH airport to hotel in Engelberg to Zurich hotel to ZRH airport 6 days of lift tickets One night in Zurich at the Best Western Glockenhof **** in the center of old town Zurich Welcome party All taxes, fuel charges, and fees (excluding extra baggage fees) The Terrace Hotel is at the top of the mountain right above the center of town, and it has a funicular that runs on demand 24x7 that takes you up and down. At the bottom of the funicular, the ski stop is less than 200m and the train station is about 400m. Another added bonus is it has a disco in the basement which takes high accolades on all the après ski sites for being awesome and the place to party. The biggest bonus, the lift tickets and wine are included in the price. Engelberg is little known and under-rated even by its home-nation; this quiet resort has huge skiing among striking mountains and one of the biggest vertical drops - 2,000m - from the top of the lift system to town. Hotel for Zurich is 2 blocks from the hoptbahn and in the center of old town of Zurich. This is a 4 star hotel with a great location. Several of our more perverse and depraved members have written us to request that we review the book and movie entitled 50 Shades of Gray. We had ignored it in the past because we were unaware that it was a literary achievement. We had assumed that 50 Shades of Gray was Cleveland s regular weather forecast for November through April of any given year. As soon as we can find a volunteer, we shall publish our review. Volunteers for this assignment may contact us at Happening@fagowees.org. Please be prepared to provide a detailed description of your experience and adventures in this area. Follow-up interviews will be thorough and painful. Until then, please except our sincerest apologies for this grievous sin of omission. Hooley House Cascade Xing Brooklyn, funpub.com Happy Hour!
