Too warm for me but I m sure nice for others. The fall is now here and with September the world gets back to work and the Sons of Norway is no exception.

President Roy Berntsen conducted a short meeting but it was mainly a party night. Also in June our Sports Director, with Crystals help of course, ran a great fishing trip.

Too warm for me but I m sure nice for others. The fall is now here and with September the world gets back to work and the Sons of Norway is no exception. Since we last met in May, we decided to cancel our June meeting so we could attend Garborg 90 th Anniversary. Garborg did a fine job celebrating with a catered meal. President Roy Berntsen conducted a short meeting but it was mainly a party night. Also in June our Sports Director, with Crystals help of course, ran a great fishing trip. We packed the boat and I think everyone caught fish, unfortunately because Fluke are size controlled just a few went home to the frying pan. Bottom line we had a great time and want to thank Garborg Lodge for a good turnout in support. BTW, our Sports Director John wrote a letter of appreciation to Garborg s president Roy for publication in their Garborg News newsletter. Again in June, Darlene, Cindy, Vera, plus others I m sure, did a great job in arranging for our Sankt Hans celebration at the beach, unfortunately it rained but a few members did attend and we did get some quality time together, some more that others. We ate and of course we celebrated with a little Aquavit. Larry, Monica, & Cindy once again, conducted our bi-annual yard sale in late June. Once again it was a poor weather day with a little rain but we made some money for the treasury. Thank you Larry, Monica, Cindy and all the other members who helped with the work and donated the stuff. The Zone also had a picnic that was well attended by mostly by Norden members, a few from Loyal but only Renee were there from Henrik Ibsen. For those who were there, there was plenty of food and drink, Norwegian background music and games. Mostly it was sitting and talking, basically just good ole fraternalism. Hopefully more Henrik Ibsenites can make it next year. If you notice all this reporting is about the past, however numerous future events are planned, see the Zone Happening s section in the Courier and for the flyers for details. Please do all you can to participate or at least attend and provide your support to all the hard work the Lodge and Zone members are doing. Looking forward, here are a bunch of events planned for us in Zone one; Budd Lake, LOV Tri Lodge weekend, LOV Gala Re-Opening weekend, Zone Bus to Seaman s Church for a Norwegian lunch, Zone Bowling Tournament, Zone Walk at Jones Beach for Pancreatic Cancer Research, Zone visit to Bayard Cutting Arboretum in Great River, Ole & Lena Remember When play, Zone Bus Trip to Norwegian, Swedish & Danish church bazaars, Zone Viking Auction for LOV (2016). My reason for making this my topic of this months Presidents message is simple, we at Henrik Ibsen in Zone One of the Third District have a lot of great activities going on and the members of Henrik Ibsen should be part of what being offered. I m looking forward to a great business season. I hope you are too. Please plan on being part of the fun and work in making our time together rewarding. Please note that Renee and I will be with the golfing Norwegians in South Carolina in September and our Vice President Asbjørn will be conducting the September meeting. I gave him an agenda of items that I think everyone should know so please give him your support. Tusen takk. Thank you dear family for taking good care of us. We visited a lot of places; the City including One World Trade Center, upstate, beaches, Montauk, Martha s Vineyard, shopping malls (ha, ha) etc.

5 KULTUR MED TERJE Da er vi igang igjen etter sommeren. First of all, hope you all had a great summer. Me and Tone, plus my brother in law spent three wonderful weeks in your home area this summer beautiful Long Island. Base camp was at Darlene and John`s residence on Brightshore Blvd. Thank you dear family for taking good care of us. We visited a lot of places; the City including One World Trade Center, upstate, beaches, Montauk, Martha s Vineyard, shopping malls (ha, ha) etc. Of events I have to mention two things; - The annual Sons of Norway fishing trip, with participants from Ibsen lodge and the Garborg Lodge and us Norwegians. This is a great opportunity for us Norwegians to be in personal contact with some of you. - The annual golf game between The President Ken and Terje. Not a good event at all. Why? Because Ken beat me!! He will live long on that one. Our three weeks stay were blessed with warm, often very hot and humid weather. At the same time we read about the weather back in Norway. The weather has not been good at all in June and July. Very cool, windy and a lot of rain. In other words, very depressing weather. And remember most people in Norway are vacationing in July. Then in August, good weather showed up. Long periods of sunny days, temps in the lower 80s and not windy. This is against normal weather conditions. Normally temps drops in August and the Fall is here. What else is happening in August is that everyone goes back to work and schools starts up. Schools start Aug 17 th. 7 FROM THE 3D PRESIDENT Publication of District 3, Sons of Norway Mary B. Andersen, President I hope everyone had a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy the summer! Please remember to send photos of your summer picnics and other summer lodge activities to Ron Martinsen, our Publicity Director. The activity and excitement level always seems to pick up around the District at this time. The Third District will have a table at the 2015 Scandinavian Festival at Budd Lake, NJ this year (September 6 th, 10 am to 6pm). Scanfest draws thousands of visitors! This a great venue for us to let the Scandinavian community know we exist. As we have heard many times, Sons of Norway is one of the best kept secrets! Zone 1 Director Karen Olsen-Helmold and Zone 3 Director Paul Kornbrekke have taken the lead with this activity. I will be helping with the set up and staffing our table. If you are in the area on Labor Day weekend, stop by and say hello! If you have the time and want to help staff the table, just let Karen know. We welcome your help. I will be joining Norumbega in September to celebrate their 45 th Anniversary, WTG Norumbega! Our International Director, Marci Larson will also join in the celebration. I will also be visiting Hartford Lodge in October for their Leif Erikson Day festivities! Like I said, things are picking up around the District! Board members have been busy over the summer with the affairs of the District. Committees have been established to take a look at LOV, the Charitable Trust, the 3D website and the 2016 Convention. Work is progressing on a new lodge in the Atlanta area too! The Financial Advisory Committee has been busy with beginning work on Convention budgets, 3D LTD (LOV) projections and of course the 3D financials. The membership committee is also taking a hard look at our lodges and assessing the lodge leadership situation. You will be hearing more about all this soon! Speaking of the 2016 Convention, this year we will have a District Nominating Committee. The Committee members are Marci Larson (Gateway to Florida), Barbara Bensen (Noreg), Charlie Abrahamson (Maine Nordmenn) and Judi Mack (Norumbega) as alternate. We will be working out the details of the Nominating Committee at the Fall Board meeting and will keep you posted. Land of the Vikings opened and youth camp was held! I was happy to be part of a work weekend; the LOV Board has accomplished a lot! You can read more about it in Roy s report. Well that s about it for now, much more to come! Høsthilsen.
