Every landing is mandatory. If you push the stick forward, the houses get bigger. If you pull the stick back, they get smaller. That is, unless you keep pulling the stick all the way back, then they get bigger again. It's always better to be down here wishing you were up there than up there wishing you were down here. When in doubt, hold on to your altitude. No one has ever collided with the sky. A 'good' landing is one from which you can walk away. A 'great' landing is one after which they can use the plane again. Never let an aircraft take you somewhere your brain didn't get to five minutes earlier. Stay out of clouds. The silver lining everyone keeps talking about might be another airplane going in the opposite direction. Reliable sources also report that mountains have been known to hide out in clouds. There are three simple rules for making a smooth landing. Unfortunately no one knows what they are. You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck. Good judgment comes from experience. Unfortunately, the experience usually comes from bad judgment. Keep looking around. There's always something you've missed. Remember, gravity is not just a good idea. It's the law. And it's not subject to repeal. The three most useless things to a pilot are the altitude above you, runway behind you and a tenth of a second ago. There are old pilots and there are bold pilots. There are, however, no old, bold pilots. Model United Nations Assembly P.E. Annette needs YOUR help!!! PE Annette has organised MUNA for a number of years, and as she will be President next year, she is calling for someone to act as MUNA co-ordinator. PE Annette is about to start organising this years MUNA, and it is a good opportunity for an upcoming co-ordinator to get a grasp and understanding of what is involved. Please see PE Annette to offer her your support. MUNA this year will be held over the weekend of 28 th & 29 th April. ROTARY PRATT FOUNDATION The Rotary Pratt Foundation are contributing $15,000 to upgrade the heating and cooling system at Glendel. An irritated father complained to his golf buddy, "When I was a kid, my parents sent me to my room without supper if I misbehaved. But my son has his own TV, telephone, computer, and every computer game and CD player in his room!" "So how do you handle it?" his friend asked. "I send him to MY room!" INNER WHEEL FEBRUARY MEETINGS The Inner Wheel Club of Deloraine will hold their Charter Anniversary on Monday 13 th February, at Villarett. The February monthly Inner Wheel Meeting will be held on Wednesday 22 nd February at the British Hotel 6.30 for 7.00p.m. The guest speakers at this meeting will be Margaret and Kelvin Howe, speaking on the WT Landslips 12 months on. PR & MEMBERSHIP Tassies Biggest BBQ: A sausage sizzle was held outside Woolworths on Saturday morning (4 th February), and a jumping castle was at the Market at the Showgrounds.

Donations were received at both venues, and approximately $300 was raised, which will be donated to Deloraine House. Thank you to those who assisted. Fly Fishing Championships Wednesday 15 th February Rtn John Christie mans the BBQ at the sausage sizzle Display boards are at the back Jumping Castle at the Showgrounds, with Rotary on display. Rtn Mike is seeking assistance for next Wednesday, and the Fly Fishing Championships:- 3 volunteers are required to assist with the Street Parade; 2 volunteers to assist with the setting up of tables, chairs, etc on the riverbank (150 are expected for the meal); 2 3 volunteers required to help man the bar; As many volunteers as possible to assist with the clean up, etc. afterwards. If you are able to assist for any part of this project, please contact Rtn Mike as a matter of urgency. MOVIES UNDER THE STARS COMMUNITY NEWS Huge outdoor screens. Take your picnic rug, chairs and hampers and head to the FREE MOVIE NIGHT. This years successful applicant is Samuel Stoffelen who lives at Westbury. Samuel has a passion for sport and sports writing, and will undertake to study a Bachelor of Sports Media at the University of Canberra. Samuel has had a number of articles published, with his first being for The Examiner when he was in grade 7, Hilfenhaus for the Australian Team. From here Samuel sent letters to the many media outlets The Examiner, The West Australian, Inside Cricket Magazine, Alpha Magazine and The Roar (an online website). It was only after many of Samuels articles were published and he had won a number of prizes, that he truly appreciated his talent for writing. Samuel will be a guest of the Club in June when he is home. We wish him well with his chosen career and studies. GROUP STUDY EXCHANGE With applications now being called for GSE Team Leaders and Members, Rotarians are asked to please encourage suitable applicants years of age to apply for as a Team Member. In our District has been paired to conduct traditional Group Study Exchange programmes with D-1470 Denmark and D-2090 Italy. Applications for Team Leaders and Team Members are requested as follows: Team Leaders Applications for Team Leader close on Friday 24 th February, 2012 with selection interviews to be held in Launceston on Sunday 4 th March, Team Members Applications for Team Members close on Wednesday 14 th March, 2012 with selection interviews to be held in Launceston on Sunday 25 th March, 2012.

6 FORTHCOMING MEETINGS Tuesday 21 st February: This meeting will take the form of a Working Bee at Rotary Pavilion. The main agenda item will be checking, photographing and collating Craft Fair equipment. As there is quite a bit of equipment that needs to be catalogued, all Rotarians are asked to attend. At the conclusion of the working bee, a BBQ tea will be served. Rotarians are asked to pay $5.00 to cover costs of meat, salads, etc. BUT please BYO drinks. If you are unable to make this Meeting, please remember to record your apology with PP Ann. BOWLS CLUB Tuesday 28 th February On Tuesday 28 th February our Meeting will be held at the Deloraine Bowls Club. The programme for this night is that any Rotarians requiring Bowling tuition should make their way to the Bowls Club for 4.00p.m. A game of Bowls will follow when Rotarians arrive at 5.00p.m. At the conclusion of the game (7.00p.m.) a meal will be served. Rotarians are reminded that they are still required to register their apology, or guests for this evening. To assist the Bowls Club with catering, please advise PP Ann of your apologies or guests by Tuesday 21 st February. Tuesday 6 th March, 2012 Celebrating 55 th Anniversary of Charter Make a note of this date, more details over the coming weeks If you would like to purchase a DVD relating to our 50 th Anniversary, PP Pat has been spring cleaning and came across a few, these have been given to PE Annette, so see her if you would like more information. SOCIAL / FELLOWSHIP NEWS CAR RALLY Saturday 24 th March Participants should meet at the Train Park for a 10.00a.m. start. (Please note that cars will be sent off in 2 minute intervals, if you have not indicated that you would like to take part, and decide on the morning, Rtn Steen will be the last car to disperse and this would be at 10.26a.m., so you need to be there before that time!!) Participants should bring their own lunch. There will be BBQ facilities available. Symphony Under the Stars will be held at City Park on Saturday 25 th February. Start thinking now if you plan to attend this function numbers will be sought soon.
