Phone or DISTRICT INFORMATION The Rotary Leadership Institute is a grassroots Rotary information and development programme using facilitation in small groups to engage Rotarians and strengthen clubs. It is designed for new and emerging leaders to discover information and gain knowledge that will help as a Rotary member and also for your vocation. PART I sessions were held in Hobart and Deloraine. The feedback from all participants was extremely positive. The next PART 1 Session will be held in Deloraine on Sunday 13 th September, I encourage Rotarians who are interested in taking a leadership role in Rotary Tasmania to seriously consider participating in this leadership programme. The facilitators of this programme are excellent and the interaction of participants in the previous PART I generated lively discussion which lead to an exchange of ideas and greater learning. For detailed information and topics to be covered please go to the following website, which will take you to the appropriate section of the District web site: leadership-institute Professional Development Exchange Professional Development Exchange is an exceptional professional and cultural exchange opportunity for professional and business people between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The programme will provide funding for exchange visits of four weeks between Tasmania and Montana, USA. Four team members from each region will see directly how their professions are practiced overseas, develop professional and personal relationships, and exchange ideas. They will also experience the history, geography, institutions, culture and the way of life of the host country. The team will be led by an experienced Rotarian selected from Rotary club nominations. Team members will come from corporations, small businesses, government and community organisations, medical and educational facilities, and non-profit agencies. District Governor John writes to the Club.... This week Lesley and I have visited Devonport, Queenstown and Hobart Rotary Clubs. Each club is very different.

3 District Governor John writes to the Club.... This week Lesley and I have visited Devonport, Queenstown and Hobart Rotary Clubs. Each club is very different. In the case of Devonport they are on a membership drive and they inducted two new members on Monday evening. Our visit to Queenstown saw the weather improving however still a lot of snow about. Queenstown are working hard organising their Industry Forum (was the Mining Forum) they have changed the name to embrace Agriculture, Aquaculture and Tourism. They are planning on having something like 150 attendees. The event will held on the 7 th October. On Thursday Lesley and I were invited to a tour of the Windward Bound. The Youth Training they do with this vessel is excellent. I discussed the possibility to incorporate The Windward Bound into Rotary Leadership Training. After the meeting Lesley and I visited the Rotary Club of Hobart. They are busy planning their Sail Day to held on March 4 th. Hobart Club has carried out a member survey with very interesting results. This has enabled them to focus on the important elements to ensure retention. At the end of the day this came down to "engaging members and providing vocational and fellowship opportunities". They are a lunch time club and have 100 members. Hobart club are targeting a nett increase of 10 members Next week will be Launceston clubs, Scottsdale and St Helens. All the best John PRESIDENT ROB I have received a letter from Pat Woods to notify us of the resignation from the Club of both herself and Geoff. The reason being Geoff s ongoing medical complications following his stroke. Geoff is currently in the LGH and possibly he will be transferred to the Deloraine hospital for some time before going home to be cared for by Pat and Hospice Care. I am sure that we will all be thinking of them during this difficult time and sending them our best wishes. Pat wrote that both she and Geoff look back at their time with Rotary and value the friendships and experiences they had. It was a big part of their lives. Our guest speaker this week was Ros Albiston who spoke to us about renovations and additions about to take place at Deloraine House. She also informed us about the many activities at the House that provide such wonderful support to many in our community. There is a close working relationship between Deloraine House and the Deloraine Hospital to the mutual benefit of both organisations. Bill Muldoon has taken on a role of co-ordinator between our club and the Rotary District Conference Committee and will act as the gobetween during the setting up of the Conference in On Friday 28 th August, Peter Griffin and myself will be attending the 2015 Tasmanian Training Awards at the Wrest Point Conference Centre in Hobart. Our club annually supports this organisation with a donation of $ 4, from our Vocational Services budget. Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet. Life isn't about how fast you run, or how high you climb; it's about how well you bounce. Men have feelings, too. For example, we feel hungry. My goal for 2015 is to accomplish the goals set in 2014 which I should have done in 2013 because I promised to in 2012 and planned to do in Whoever said there is no such thing as a stupid question has never worked in customer service. When the going gets tough, everyone leaves. When it rains, why don't sheep shrink? When at a loss for the right word to say, try silence.

The plan is for him to come home to Deloraine quite soon and be cared for at home with help from Hospice Care.

As well as the effects of the stroke that occurred in early January he now has the problem of one of the aneurysms growing larger and pressing on his brain. These aneurysms are inoperable. Geoff can remember quite a lot but some areas of his brain have been adversely affected. Although the news is very sad it is of comfort to know that Geoff is not in pain. The plan is for him to come home to Deloraine quite soon and be cared for at home with help from Hospice Care. A hospital bed will be set up in our sitting room and Hospice Care will come in two or three times each day. I am not quite sure when Geoff will come home but it is likely to be within the next three weeks. Thank you for your messages and wishes previously and for the offers to sit with Geoff. I will surely be taking up some of those kind offers. WILDWOOD At last weeks meeting Rtn Lester gave an update with regards to Wildwood. Pictures of the Australian Conservation Volunteers Green Army cutting and poisoning willow regrowth at Wild Wood. They are spending two days at Wild Wood doing track work, weed mapping and removal and planting native plants.

Clubs look at social media to promote projects and inform the public of what Rotary is about. Melissa Carlton is joining the training team. Club constitutions 27 Clubs have completed.

Membership to retain our own District we need 1,200 members, we are currently below this so need to move with the times and get rid of artificial barriers. INFORMATION FROM ASSISTANT GOVERNOR Youth Service Directors Clubs to talk face-to-face with their schools about Rotary projects. Youth Exchange: Outbound student numbers have dropped, promotion 35 expressions of interest, now have 3 more and 1 for the Taiwan Exchange. District Leadership Institute Training: James Wilcox and Irene Gray are the contacts and Clubs to target potential club leaders. Hat Day 9 th October. Clubs are encouraged to hold a hat day/night during that week for Mental Health. Second Bite Anti-Poverty Week 11 th to 17 th October Rotary Clubs are asked to run a fundraising activity of their choosing with funds raised being applied to the purchase of a 9 foot x 6 foot refrigerated trailer costing $11,000 to $12,000 and co-branded; Rotary SecondBite Foodbank. Rotary Club of Central Launceston do the parking for the Day on the Green on 5 th December they are looking for volunteers to assist them.
