8 Wildlife Port Moody sits on on the edge of the north shore mountains. As a result, wildlife is abundant here. Bears and coyotes are common in all parts of the city. Bobcat and cougars, while rare, have been seen around our parks and ravines. Make noise to alert wildlife to your presence: most animals will get out of your way if they hear you coming. Keep pets on leash to avoid wildlife encounters. If you do run into a bear, remain calm and speak firmly to him. This shows that you re not a threat, and it will also help calm you down. Back away slowly but do not turn your back. Use extreme caution if you spot bear cubs as mother bears will be nearby. Most bear sightings do not require reporting, however if you see a bear eating garbage or behaving aggressively towards people or pets, call Port Moody Police at Birdwatching Shoreline Trail has many excellent viewing areas. You can see water birds along the inlet, and the adjacent forest boasts many other bird species. Eagles and osprey nest around the inlet. Bert Flinn also has good birdwatching. Warblers, wrens and thrushes are plentiful and barred owls live in the park. Rules, Rules, Rules Helmets are mandatory for all cyclists, on roads as well as at our SK8. Dogs must be on a leash and in control. Owners or handlers must pick up after their dogs. Dogs may be off leash at one of the city s four off-leash areas (See map for locations). Watch for signs that say you are leaving an off-leash area. Need to Launch Your Boat? Daily rates at our popular boat launch are $18.95 to launch and retrieve your boat and park your vehicle & trailer. Additional parking is available on weekends at the WestCoast Express Station, just over the Moody Street overpass south of the park. Get an annual pass at the Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Road. Splish Splash at an Outdoor Pool or Spray Port Moody has two outdoor pools: Westhill and Rocky Point. Both pools are open June to late August and offer lessons and public swim sessions. There are also two spray parks. One in Glenayre at Ailsa, and another at
