2 One-day events Canada Day Celebration Sunday, July 1, 1pm Canada turns 145 years old this July 1st. Join Port Moody Mayor and Council for an official ceremony, free cupcakes, refreshments, and entertainment. Port Moody Film Society Film Night Friday, July 13, 7:30pm Inlet Theatre Departures Kobayashi, an unemployed cellist decides to move back to his old hometown to look for work and start over. He answers a classified ad entitled Departures thinking it is an ad for a travel agency only to find that the job is for a Nokanshi or encoffineer, a funeral professional. The film follows his profound and sometimes comical journey with death. $5 per film/$5 membership, tickets at the door. Art in the Garden Tour Sunday July 15, 9am - 4pm. $20 This event combines 10 beautiful gardens with visual art and live music that celebrate art and nature. Check out the free Art & Garden Fair at the Port Moody Arts Centre. Burrard Inlet Fish Fest Saturday, August 11, 11am 8pm This multidisciplinary arts and cultural experience celebrates our aquatic ecosystems. Join local and visiting artists in live musical performances, art creations, and creative workshops. The festival features a fantastic line-up of emerging artists presenting a variety of original and published short works. Port Moody Youth Arts Festival July 26 29, various times Inlet Theatre & Galleria City Hall will showcase an exciting array of youth performing and visual art, while providing a variety of workshops and seminars, all devoted to selfexpression through artistic creation. Suter Brook Music Series Friday evenings, mid July to mid August Suter Brook Village Grab a group of friends and make your way down to Suter Brook for their fourth summer music series. Browse through local shops before the music starts, then sit down for a great evening of entertainment. Free. This summer, enjoy the feature exhibit, Chinese Legacies, depicting the life and contributions of the Chinese labourers during the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway s transcontinental line in the 1880s.
