2 20 Earth Day Faire Oak Lawn Oak Lawn Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration 2017 Saturday, April 29th, :00A - 2:00P Wolfe Wildlife Refuge (109th & Laramie) Sponsored by: Join the Oak Lawn Park District and the Village of Oak Lawn in our 10th Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration! Our theme this year is Citizen Scientists! That s you! We have invited citizen science groups from all over the region to attend our event and educate you on how to get involved with nature and conservation. This is a great way for families to experience nature and help scientific research! Other activities: Tree Climb, scavenger hunt, plant sale, tree planting demo, raffles, and more! (DF) StoryWalk at Lake Shore Park (9610 E. Shore Dr) StoryWalk transforms the pages of a children s storybook into signs placed sequentially along the walking trail at Lake Shore Park. The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and Kellogg Hubbard Library. Refreshments and snacks provided. Every season a new children s storybook will be showcased. StoryWalk is brought to you by the Oak Lawn Public Library and Oak Lawn Park District. Stop by today! (dm) KIDS TO PARKS DAY & FAMILY BIKE RIDE SATURDAY, MAY 20TH 1:00-3:00P Little Wolfe (107th & Laramie) KTP Day is a nation-wide day of outdoor play organized by National Park Trust (NPT) in cooperation with a host of local and national collaborators. Celebrate National Bike Month and Kids to Parks Day with a Family Bike Ride at Wolfe Wildlife. Bring your bicycle and helmet to compete in Bike Rodeo activities. Music, sports and recreation equipment and raffles for all to enjoy! (dm) COMMUNITY 15 MILLION STEPS CHALLENGE Join the Oak Lawn Park District this RUN summer in achieving our goal of completing 15 million steps as a community! OVERNIGHT CAMP-OUT AT THE FOREST PRESERVES (Age: 6 & up) Come out and enjoy a summer night camping under the stars in the Cook County Forest Preserves at Camp Sullivan! We will have plenty of games and activities planned for the evening, and all participants will enjoy a late night campfire. All food and camping equipment will be provided for this event. We will head to the campgrounds as a group from the Oak View Center on Friday morning. Participants will be brought back to Oak View Saturday morning at the conclusion of the trip. There is limited space for this trip, so hurry in and register today before it s full! This award-winning festival brings much needed awareness to the issues that this magnificent creature faces today and will show you how you can assist in the preservation of the Monarch butterfly species. Join us at the Oak View Center for fun recreational activities that will include butterfly arts and crafts for kids, an interactive puppet theatre, face painting, music, and much more! There will also be live butterfly tagging, a bug zoo, caterpillar aquarium, and a movie shown in our very own theatre on the butterfly s migration to Mexico. Vendors at the event will be selling food and t-shirts, and we will be offering everyone the opportunity to purchase milkweed plants for $1 to help save the Monarch butterfly. Admission is FREE. Bring the family out for this fun festival and get involved in an important cause to help ensure that our future generations get to experience the beauty of our state butterfly, the Monarch butterfly! This events is both indoors and outdoors and will run rain or shine. (df & ms)
5 ALL INCLUSIVE PLAYGROUND AT COLUMBUS MANOR 99th & Moody Ave. The Oak Lawn Park District was a recent recipient of a playground matching grant through Illinois Park and Recreation Association, Playcore and their affiliated GameTime and Cunningham Recreation. The grant will be used for an All Inclusive Playground project at our Columbus Manor Park. It will be one of the first inclusive playgrounds in the state of Illinois! An inclusive playground will help us to continue our mission of enhancing recreational opportunities, not only for people with disabilities, but for the entire community. The Oak Lawn Park District s All Inclusive Playground will become a destination playground for people of all ages and abilities. State of the Art features will include: Sensory Wave Climber Merry Go ALL Shadow Play Biggo Swing Rocking Raft Music Section Net Climber Bay of Swings Benches Slides Fundraising efforts have begun!
