Show Secretary & Registrar: Anita Laidlay In our thoughts It was sad to hear of the passing of Kevin Hipkins and Eddy Ruiz. Our thoughts go to their families, from all of us at WWOS. Kevin was the owner of Royale Orchids. He was best known for the breeding of cymbidiums away from the round shape and bringing back the perfume. His Death Wish and Cymbidium crosses were some of Kevin s outstanding breeding. Eddy and his wife Karen opened the doors of Mogo Orchid and Fern Nursery nine years ago and soon gained recognition from orchid lovers on the south coast of NSW. Anita, John and I had a catch up beer with Andrew Easton on Tuesday. Unfortunately things are not 100% for Andrew but he still had a smile and a few jokes to share (he ll never change). Eurobodalla Orchid Club once again conducted a very successful workshop in March. WWOS was well represented with eight members enjoying the two days. Jeanne Dunn provided talks on Dockrillias, a demonstration of slabbing Dockrillias and a deflasking demonstration. David Brooks provided talks on the growing of cymbidiums and soft cane Dendrobiums while Clive Halls educated us in the growing of Sarcochilas, Oncidinae and Masdevalias. Thank you to the Eurobodalla club for a great weekend. I m sure we ve all gained a greater interest in Dockrillias and a lot of us were lucky enough to bring home some very nice orchids to add to our own collections.
