The Annual General Meeting of the Port Cygnet Sailing Club Inc will be held at the clubhouse. 7.30pm on 12 August 2014 Looking forward. Looking back Looking forward looking back We ve come a long way down the track Got a long way left to go The words of this Slim Dusty song certainly in many ways reflect the mood of the times at the PCSC. Looking back one must recognize that It has been something of a frenetic year with the Regatta planning and accomplishment being a main focus from the last AGM in August 2013 until March. The commitment and stress that resulted was considerable and it is with some regret that we learned that Wendy Le Cornu has decided it is time to move on and have some time for other pursuits so she has relinquished her role as Publicity officer and Assistant Secretary. We acknowledge and thank Wendy for all the work she has undertaken for the club. Her witty and insightful sailing reports in the Huon News, in particular, have been and will continue to be sorely missed. With regular weekly meetings with either the racing or the social committee held throughout the latter half of 2013 and early 2014 it was a challenge for the members of the committees, but even more so for the Commodore, Chris Le Cornu, Regatta Secretary Chris Holiday, Regatta Finance director Rob Banfield and the Social organizer Wendy LeCornu. We all recognize that the Regatta was a great success a testament to the commitment of all the organisers and not forgetting the willing club members who gave up their time to assist in making the event the success it was. Junior Sailing continues to thrive, with the efforts of Dave Golding, Peter Manthorpe and their trusty crew of parents and friends ensuring that the many young people who took part gained a very valuable experience. Dave has reflected on the year and although he has expressed his willingness to continue running the course for another season, he acknowledges that other people may need to stand up and take on the program in the future. This year has also seen the building of the St Ayle s Skiff that has a regular workout with two groups rowing the The Swan every week. They are looking forward to participating the St Ayles Skiff Championships Tasmania) in These championships will be held as part of the Huon Riverfest in Franklin in February 2015 under the auspices of the Living Boat Trust. More crews are needed in a number of age groups so if you are keen please contact John Archer through the Club. The skiff was built with a $13,000 grant and with some club funding. It is tied up at the club jetty and the rowers are all associate members. They have certainly brought a new dimension to the club this year. Looking forward and our next major event which is the AGM. There will certainly be some changes with a number of office bearers already signaling that they will not be re-nominating for a position. There will be some large gaps to fill. It is therefore important that members recognize that a club does not run itself and that others need to take on a role to help the club work effectively in the interest of all members. A nomination form is included in this Newsletter. Please consider what you can bring to the club by taking on a management role.

2 The sailing program was modified this year with a number of major changes including racing that commenced at Port Huon and each series consisting of six races. The Etchell fleet grew to seven with the addition of Lenny Holland s Knot on Call that had a very successful year. It was disappointing that the number of Etchells actually racing decreased progressively over the season. The Club Etchell also was sailed very successfully by Daniel Walter but this yacht was only leased and it is now out of lease and available. If you enjoy a really competitive sail and would like to give an Etchell a go for a season please consider leasing Bushido. Pat Lee Acting Newsletter editor News from Honey Bee by Peter & Chris McHugh We had 2 weeks at Port Davey & also in Macquarie Harbour, after we left Cygnet earlier this year. Completed our circumnavigation of Tassie that we started in 1983, when we arrived in Devonport! Did some boat jobs there, then headed to the Tamar, out to Flinders & across to Eden. Our trip up the mainland coast has gone well - had some good sailing days. Enjoyed our time in Sydney in March - had a nice day at Taronga Zoo with James, our son. Spent time at Tin Can Bay, Fraser Island, Mooloolaba, Bundaberg & Pancake Creek, then Mackay in Qld. Had 10 days in Mackay early May & caught up with our daughter, Kathryn. We made it to the Wintermoon Folk Festival, 70 km north of Mackay one day. Really loved the festival - much smaller than Cygnet & very laid back in the outdoor, tropical setting. Our plans are to leave Torres Strait later July & sail through Indonesia with the Sail2Indonesia rally. We enjoyed over a month in the Whitsundays & there was a get-together for the rally at Airlie Beach mid- June. It was all new territory for us north of the Whitsundays - really loved exploring Magnetic Island. Honey Bee is now in Cairns where we are waiting for social visas for Indonesia. Have already got our Indonesian cruising permit. We will still use this address when we have internet access overseas. Peter will keep our position up to date most of the time see ). The Marine Diesel Maintenance for Beginners Course on Sunday 10th August is now open to all sexes. The course is especially designed for non mechanics but others will definitely learn something on the course that may save their lives, especially if their motor breaks down, just when they need it on the high seas. Please give consideration to helping the Club with an infusion of fresh ideas. It is not all that onerous. At the AGM we elect the Flag Officers, Committee Members, Sailing Captains, Sailing Committee, Publicity Officer and an Auditor.. Fees for Membership, Race, and Slipping are also set. This will be charged at the Bosun s discretion. Cleanup charge after slipping $40 charged only if necessary and at the Bosun s discretion) It is the responsibility of all people using the slip to dispose of their own industrial waste eg paint tins, fibreglass etc. The club s rubbish bins are for domestic waste only and should not be used for this purpose. The use of the slip is restricted to full financial club members only.
