It was an opportunity for Bus Queensland to present our business what we do, how we do it and why they should partner with us going forward. It was also an opportunity to present to key industry stakeholders both in a formal and informal setting. Robert Macey, Chief Operating Officer led the symposium presentation and also presented at the Bus Queensland Awards night, launching the TV advertisement and 10-day travel pass. 2 Newsletter Issue no. 3 December 2016 HOP ON, HOP OFF BUS PASS WITH BUS QUEENSLAND Bus Queensland have launched their new 10- day unlimited travel pass that can be used on any of the Bus Queensland routes that operate throughout Outback Queensland. 3 7 Newsletter Issue no. 3 December 2016 Tuesday, October 25,2016 westernstarnews.com.au NEWS 7 Bus QLD to keep service Company to retain Roma in schedule BUS Queensland has confirmed it will remain committed to serving South West Queensland. With the recent decision of Greyhound Australia to cancel its service from Brisbane to Roma, the fleet operator wanted to reassure Roma residents the company would continue to operate in the region. Bus Queensland chief operating officer Robert Macey said its buses were still connecting residents to the rest of the state with daily services. We have a strong and loyal passenger base in Roma and are committed to continuing our services in the region, Mr Macey said. We understand the importance of public transport and the essential service that it provides for many residents, he said. We will continue to operate daily services to and from Roma, connecting residents to Brisbane, major regional centres and Outback Queensland. Mr Macey said the business had a range of STAYING ON: Bus Queensland has confirmed it will remain committed to the south-west region. customers who used its service for a variety of reasons and understood the service was a necessity in regional areas. Our passengers range from people visiting friends and family, travelling to Brisbane for appointments, workers who commute, students travelling to and from boarding school and tourists using our coaches to explore our magnificent outback, he said. Having access to regular bus services is vital for all of these groups. We look forward to welcoming residents of Roma on board very soon. Bus Queensland, which was established in 1972 by four brothers with four buses, is one of the largest privately owned bus companies in Australia. It operates a modern fleet of 414 buses in Queensland and Victoria and employs more than 600 people. Buses head out to Charleville as part of one of its Outback services. To view a full list of routes, fares and passes, visit their website at PHOTO:CONTRIBUTED BUS QLD FACTS Bus Queensland s Brisbane to Roma service runs twice daily and heads out to Charleville. Buses arrive and depart from Roma on Arthur St, across from the BP petrol station. Vinnies Roma turns 90 MEMBERS and volunteers of the Roma s St Vincent de Paul Society will celebrate the milestone of 90 years service to the poor and needy in our local community. Things have changed significantly since the times of long ago when an elderly gentleman used to drive his horse and cart around the town to collect rags and unwanted items to use in the service of the poor. Nowadays we are fortunate to have people drop merchandise into our Vinnies bins, located around the town or simply just dropping unwanted items directly to our store to be recycled, treasurer Noela Clohessy said. These items are processed by our wonderful volunteers and sold in our up to date and modern Vinnies Store. Vinnies volunteers are planning to celebrate the occasion by hosting a gold coin donation sausage sizzle from 11am, as well as a bargain bonanza, with 50% off all linen merchandise and the clothing range. Our shop is run almost exclusively by a band of wonderful and willing volunteers, Ms Clohessy said. CONNECTING ROMA AND MILES BOOK ONLINE NOW

4 3 Newsletter Issue no. 3 December 2016 MOvember Movember is an annual event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of men s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men s suicide. The goal of Movember is to change the face of men s health. By encouraging men to get involved, Movember aims to increase early cancer detection, diagnosis and effective treatments, and ultimately reduce the number of preventable deaths. Besides annual check-ups, the Movember Foundation encourages men to be aware of family history of cancer and to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men s health issues across the world and has raised $174-million with proceeds going toward the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, the Cancer Society and Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand, and Beyond Blue. This year the Pulitano Group launched the Movember campaign in support of the Foundation. Staff were encouraged to grow the Mo and raise funds for charity. It is the only charity tackling men s health. Several BBQs were organised across the group and collections tins were also carried on buses. Some after images are shown below. Well done to everyone for their efforts. The link to our team page is as follows: Special thanks for all the donations - especially to those who do not have the MO Growing Ability! 5 4 5 Park Ridge Depot Open for Business Work commenced to establish a new depot at Park Ridge on 2 December Staff were relocated into temporary demountable buildings whilst work continued. The new depot was completed in August 2016 and handed over to Bus Queensland in September Park Ridge Depot held an Opening Day Feast with all drivers, mechanics and administration staff to celebrate the commencement of operations. There was a great turn out by staff who enjoyed roast beef, chicken and various salads. The Depot was then duly opened by Greg Collihole, longest serving driver, who was given the honour of cutting the red ribbon and declaring the Depot officially open for business. Robert Macey, Chief Operating Officer, welcomed all to the new premises and wished success to all present. Thanks to all staff and managers - past and present - for their contribution to the success of the Park Ridge Depot.

6 6 Newsletter Issue no. 3 December 2016 TLAPD Wrap Up Well done to all Depots for their support of the Talk Like A Pirate Day charity. A total of $7, was raised. Park Ridge Transit won the inter-company challenge raising a total of $ Special thanks to the Park Ridge Pirates and Kids Clubhouse Early Learning Centre for their support. PRT Bus Fire On the 12th September 2016, PRT091 caught fire whilst in transit. Brian Hage who was the driver acted very quickly by getting the bus safely to the side of the road and evacuating passengers. Emergency services were called to the scene and although the bus was badly damaged all passengers were free from injury. Brian was commended and received a $100 voucher for his quick actions and the professional way he conducted himself. He is a credit to himself and the organisation. Focus on: Basil Burley Basil Burley has led an eventful life, training and teaching boxing. I decided to take up boxing to protect myself. says Basil. It was much later in life that I started training fighters of my own. I teamed up with an old mate to use his gym. I had the honour of learning a lot from trainers I fought for over the years, like Mel Clener a south paw who himself won 6 Australian titles. I watched and learned from the older trainers. I had the pleasure of training some good boys and watching them grow to become good young fighters. I was a better trainer than I was as fighter so had a very successful club. Some of the fighters I had were Matthew Nixon 17 fights, 12 wins, Wide bay, Silver junior State, runner up junior golden glove, my youngest son had done too well winning 87 of 115 fights taking a swag of titles from wide bay, 6 state, 6 golden, Australian 2nd runner up and senior Australian at sixteen years old. I have met some legends in the boxing circle, like Johnny Lewis, Lionel Rose and Johnny Mundane. Basil is a bus driver at our Westside Depot in Redbank.
