3 ABOUT THE CONFERENCE a first for Queensland The 8th Annual National Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Conference will be held from September 2018 at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Brisbane, Queensland. This Conference builds on a strong history of previous Conferences held around Australia since 2011, and marks the inaugural Queensland event. Sponsored by the Australian BPD Foundation, the Conference plays a major role in promoting the message that with evidence-based treatment and support the prognosis for people with BPD is positive. The Conference aims to highlight the contributions of those involved in providing and improving treatment, care and support for people with BPD and their carers and families. It provides a unique opportunity for clinicians, practitioners, consumers, carers and family members from across Australia to meet, collaborate, share and learn. BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER (BPD) Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a complex mental illness that is often misunderstood. People with this disorder frequently experience stigma and discrimination. Symptoms for people include emotional distress, self-harm, difficulty relating to others and the world around them. This can be very distressing for the person and for people close to them. Currently between 2% and 5% of Australians, that is 440,000 to 1,100,000 individuals are affected by BPD at some stage in their lives. The symptoms of the disorder usually first appear in mid to late teens or in early adulthood, with women three times more likely to be diagnosed with BPD than men. The causes of BPD are not fully understood. They are likely to involve biological, social and/or environmental factors. For some people these factors may relate to childhood experiences of trauma or neglect. Contrary to common belief, people with BPD can recover! With early diagnosis, appropriate treatment and support the prognosis for people with BPD is positive. Still today, myths persist about BPD being untreatable, resulting in many people with this diagnosis unable to access appropriate services especially in the public mental health sector. BPD can be difficult for other people to understand. People with BPD often experience stigma and discrimination, not only by the community but also within mental health services. This compounds the feelings of shame and worthlessness people feel and contributes to the high risk of self-harm and suicide associated with BPD.

4 PROGRAM OUTLINE WHEN WHAT S HAPPENING MONDAY, 10 SEPTEMBER PRECONFERENCE DAY Training/Workshop will run from approximately 9:30am 4:30pm Training day for mental health and allied health clinicians. TUESDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER CONFERENCE DAY Presentations and workshops 9:00am 4:30pm Plenary Sessions and Breakout Sessions for everyone who wants to learn more or to make a difference for those living with BPD. This includes people experiencing BPD, their families and friends, mental health professionals, workers, researchers and those wanting to learn and network. Conference breaks over the two days will be held in the Networking and Trade Display area for catching up with colleagues, friends, networking and information sharing. WHY SPONSOR? 16 SPONSORSHIP TERMS & CONDITIONS Sponsor Agreement Completion of the sponsor agreement form does not confirm acceptance of offer. BPD reserves the right to determine which applications are accepted. All sponsorships will be confirmed in writing by the Conference Organisers, Iceberg Events. Payment Acceptance of offer is by completion of Sponsor Agreement Form. Payment is required within 30 business days of receiving the sponsorship tax invoice supplied by Iceberg Events. All payments must be received by the due date. Failure to comply with payment terms may result in the Sponsor not receiving full benefits as outlined in the package. All Sponsors benefits are conditional on receiving payment, and receiving artwork, goods etcetera in a timely manner and are subject to meeting publication deadlines. Should a sponsorship benefit precede payment that benefit will no longer be available to the Sponsor. The final exhibition floor plan may vary resulting in trade display position changes from the original floor plan due to updated trade floor plans. Sponsors and Exhibitors Must have current public liability insurance cover for their trade display. Are wholly responsible for the security and safekeeping of items and staff at their trade display/s. Will be responsible for any damage to the floor of the building occupied by the trade display. Will be responsible for any loss or damage to the trade display, partitions, electrical fittings, and lights provided for the exhibitor. The offering and distribution of promotional materials may only take place within the immediate vicinity of trade displays, except where expressly permitted. Participation is entirely at the exhibitors risk. The exhibitor guarantees the Conference Organiser against all claims by third parties in consequence of damage caused by the exhibitor during the exhibition. The exhibitor s wishes will be considered as far as possible. Conference Organisers May postpone or amend the time the exhibition will be held to a more suitable time. Shall not be held liable for any losses, damage, or injuries caused except in cases of demonstrated negligence. Coffee No barista or coffee machines are allowed at individual trade displays in the exhibition area. Exhibitors cannot provide any hot beverages to Conference attendees. Liability Waiver In the event of industrial disruptions and any other circumstances that occur that mean the Conference cannot take place, the organisers accept no responsibility for losses incurred by Conference participants, Sponsors and exhibitors. Participation in the exhibition does not imply any endorsement or approval by BPD takes no responsibility in relation to the displays, products representations or promotional material of the participants.
