2 EAA Chapter 766 Guest Speaker Al Schafer had the distinct pleasure of meeting Dario Brisighella at the Aviation Heritage Center (AHC). You may not know this 84-year old gentleman, but he is, without a doubt, a great craftsman. You have all probably seen his work in the AHC museum. We are honored to have Dario as our guest speaker at our August EAA 766 meeting. Four award-winning, radio controlled aircraft built by master craftsman Dario Brisighella are on display in the AHC. Every piece of these airplanes was hand-made from scratch. No parts were bought or assembled from a kit. Everything even the cockpit instrument markings, upholstered seats, navigation lights and flight controls - were delicately crafted by hand. On display are a rare de Havilland Hornet, a 1947 Stinson Voyager, Piel Emeraude, and Starduster. These aircraft are unique masterpieces of aviation art! AHC website All the RC aircraft are incredibly detailed. When he puts in the RC servos they don't directly operate the surfaces using rods. He actually uses them to operate the bellcranks & cable systems that should be in the aircraft. He also has 1/8th scale locomotive in the Green Bay Railroad Museum. Dario currently lives in Oak Creek, WI and at 84 operates his own CAD business. Thank you to Al Schafer for August s Guest Speaker Page 2
3 Terry Kohler's love of aviation lives on in Aviation Cybersecurity Symposium at the AHC The first Terry J. Kohler Aviation Cybersecurity Symposium was held Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Aviation Heritage Center of Wisconsin, N6191 Resource Drive, Sheboygan Falls. The following is an excerpt of the Sheboygan Press article. SHEBOYGAN - The family of Terry Kohler is honoring his lifelong commitment to aviation with an ongoing educational lecture series on the topic of aviation cybersecurity. The goal of the program was to create an ongoing lecture series that brings useful information to CEOs, lawyers, and pilots of corporate flight departments, government agency flight departments and regulatory compliance professionals, according to Jeff Kohler, a nephew of the late Terry Kohler. RELATED:Terry Kohler: Businessman, philanthropist and political activist "This is a big, ambitious idea, but we believe that this topic of aviation cybersecurity has the potential to unify many companies in the goal of developing a common language of safety," Jeff Kohler said in an . The lectures will provide insight into how organizations can protect aircraft from cyberattacks and to proactively manage safety risks inherent in today s highly automated aircraft. The goal of the symposium is to attract a major aerospace manufacturer to the Sheboygan area. The event is free and open to the public. Organizers asked that patrons who plan to attend, RSVP to Donations to the Aviation Heritage Center of Wisconsin are accepted in lieu of an event fee. The following speakers will be featured at the symposium: Emanuel Gross, University of Haifa, Israel. Gross is a renowned international professor of law, distinguished military judge and expert on terrorism and the law, who will discuss current issues in aviation cybersecurity from an international law perspective. Page 3
4 Cybersecurity Symposium continued Soma G. Priddle, a pilot, practicing Wisconsin attorney and SMS auditor, who currently flies a Boeing 767 internationally for a major U.S. carrier, will discuss international and domestic law and regulatory architecture. Priddle also will lead a discussion about practical risk management techniques available to corporate pilots and attorneys in everyday operations. John M. Jeff Kohler, V, a pilot, accredited accident investigator, and SMS auditor who currently flies an Airbus 321 for a major U.S. carrier, will discuss technical and practical solutions to identify and mitigate aviation cybersecurity threats. Andy Klischers, an international corporate pilot flying, experienced instructor in corporate jet training, SMS auditor, and aviation safety consultant will discuss operational aspects of cybersecurity attacks in international flight, including his own experience with in-flight corporate aviation cyberattacks. Thys DeBrun, a technical expert in cybersecurity with Pamir Consulting, a highly respected Washington, D.C., firm that protects U.S. companies from industrial espionage and trade secret theft in international travel and operations, will discuss the latest cyber threats and corporate mitigation techniques. Subject matter experts in additional areas of cybersecurity risk and liability were available during question-and-answer discussions. 5 T-28 Clinic at the Sheboygan County Airport (KSBM) July 21 23, 2017 The 9 th T-28 formation clinic was held at the American Heritage Center of Wisconsin. In addition to the NATA formation clinic, the Classic Jets Aircraft Association again held their clinic alongside the T-28 s, and on Sunday at 3pm, the airport closed for a two hour air show (all formation qualified pilots were invited to participate). Also, at some point during the weekend, the hope was to photograph a group of several aircraft types manufactured by North American Aviation (NAA): B-25, P-51, F-86, T-2, T-6 and T-28! Thursday was the arrival day, and the clinic was held Friday morning beginning at 8am and continued through the weekend. For those going to Oshkosh, the big wing formation departed early Monday afternoon. This was an opportunity to join in the pre-oshkosh AirVenture camaraderie, optionally participate in formation proficiency flights or training, and witness a rare reunion of many NAA aircraft types! Parachutists opened the airshow with the American Flag, followed by stunt planes, military planes from the past and present, and a number of other entertaining flights to keep the attention of the spectators. Can you name all the military planes in the photos? The Blue Angels gave quite a performance to awe the audience. Page 9
