4 EAA Chapter 766 Program On February 20, 2017 the AOPA representative, Andy Miller, presented a program describing the past and future of aviation. He compared the number of pilots in 1980 to 2014: the count went from about 827,000 down to about 593,500. To help with the declining number of pilots, the AOPA is working in conjunction with Perdue, to attract high school students into aviation. Some members pointed to over regulation and the cost of aviation as the major issues. Andy noted that flying clubs are a good way of keeping costs in check. The use of TSOed equipment may also help with the rising cost of aviation. ATC privatization is wanted by the airlines but is opposed by AOPA and private pilots. The future is unsure due to the new presidency. The EAA funding has only been extended to Sept. 30,2017 which was signed by President Obama. With this in mind, it is hard to keep good people at the EAA with the uncertainty of employment. There will be a poll at the AOPA to help recognize schools and instructors that do it right. The issuance of the third class medical by your personal physician was also discussed. Changes will take place in May of A Rusty Pilot Program will be held on May 20, 2017 at KSBM (Sheboygan) to assist pilots that haven t flown for a while to get back into the PIC seat. The seminar involves 3 hours of logged ground instruction and a possible flight with a CFI. Pilots within a 100-mile radius of Sheboygan will be contacted and registration will be on-line. The cost of the seminar is free to AOPA members or $69 for non-members. It was noted that membership in AOPA is $69. Page 5

5 Flight by Local Chapter Members On February 4, 2017, Luiz Cordeiro flew with Don Waage on a winter aviation adventure. They flew over Bay Beach in Green Bay, locating a number of fisherman on the Bay of Green Bay. They continued their adventure over Sheboygan with a view of Lake Michigan and the power plant s smoke stacks in the background. The flight included some photos of the Sheboygan County Airport before concluding the flight. Luis included some photos for your enjoyment. Page 6

6 EAA Chapter 766 President s Letter Hello everyone, First of all, I want to thank each and every one of you for being a chapter member. Without your help and enthusiasm, the chapter would not be where it is. The Chapter is as strong today as it ever was. I keep thinking back when I first got involved with the chapter and we started to build the Heritage Center. It was the dedicated chapter members who volunteered their time, taking forms off the start of the foundation and helping construct parts of the building. This includes all the painting that was done to get the building ready for our first Wings and Wheels at the new Aviation Heritage Center. It was quite an accomplishment! Looking back now, we have come a long way from just an empty shell of a building. I am glad to say we now have a place of our own that we can call home for Chapter 766. We have done many projects over the past years. These include: Wings and Wheels, our biggest fundraiser, along with pancake breakfasts, omelet breakfasts and chili lunches. We also enjoy providing kids the opportunity to see what it is like to fly above the countryside with our Young Eagles program. This, as well as Fly-outs along with restoration projects, such as the T-33, located on the pedestal in front of the building and the T-28 which rests on the west side of the Heritage Center. As spring approaches, we cannot stop. We have many projects in which we can be involved, including the T-33 cockpit rebuild, youth programs, Fly-outs and different educational aviation programming for adults. I have met a lot of interesting people and made many friends by being in the chapter. I guess what I am saying is get involved with the projects and programs that the chapter has to offer! You meet new people, have fun and learn while volunteering. You will be glad you did; as I have. Thanks again for your participation! Dave Page 7
