Credit cards can now be used for purchasing memberships and clothing at our meetings and events. THE PRESIDENT S MESSAGE One of my Brothers visited me recently and asked me what was the EAA. As I started to explain to him, it was more difficult than you would think. Are you a group of airplane builders? Some are. A group of pilots? Some are. A group of aviation enthusiasts? Very definitely. Then I got thinking about how different each chapter is. Chapter 166 is very focused on building while our 1310 is focused on fly-in activities, breakfasts, corn roast etc. Chapter 27 is focused on building an RV-12 with a school. All the chapters are very interested in the Young Eagles program. So the question becomes how can we satisfy your interest. The best answer I can think of is to participate in chapter activities and let your interest be known. Like all organizations, we have a core of members who follow the 80/20 rule. Twenty percent do 80 percent of the work. If you are in the eighty percent category, please consider kicking it up a notch and lighten the load on the 20 percent. The national EAA sent out a member s survey this year (I will go over it at the coming meeting) and one frequent comment was you would like to see more interesting meetings. I have asked for ideas and speakers in the past and it gets very quiet. So the bottom line to all of this is to the 25 or so fringe members, please step in and make yourself known. We will have a booth at the upcoming Simsbury Fly In and need volunteers to man the booth. It s a great opportunity to tell others what EAA means to you. There is an upcoming safety meeting, a breakfast, A Young Eagles Flight, the B-17 visit at Brainard, as well as our members get togethers (meetings) Please join us. If you are one of the 20 percent, ignore all the above! Special thanks to one of our newer members, Gil Wilcox, for the beautiful paint job on the airport wind vane. Thanks Gil! Safe Flying, Jack BOARD OF DIRECTOR S MEETING MINUTES There was no Board of Director s Meeting in August. EAA CHAPTER 1310 MEETING MINUTES

10 AOPA Air Safety Institute Seminar Tuesday September 26 7:00-9:00 PM Radisson Hotel Hartford 50 Morgan St Hartford, CT Fly by Night Especially in light aircraft, flying after dark comes with real trade-offs. Smooth air, better performance, and stunning views are great but they re offset by trickier landings, invisible terrain, and limited emergency options. So what s the key to staying safe after sundown? ASI s new seminar looks at night flying from a risk management perspective. Using decades of accident data, we identify common problems and recommend the best ways to avoid them.
