2 Early May Bank Holiday service and engineering work information These pages give an overview of the services that each Train Operating Company will be providing over the Early May Bank Holiday Weekend (Saturday 5, 6 & ). The vast majority of passengers travelling by train over the May Bank Holiday weekend should experience no disruption because of planned improvements to the rail network. During holiday periods, Train Operating Companies generally amend the train plan that they run and there are a number of reasons for this: Network Rail may be carrying out essential engineering work that requires the timetable to be amended and in some cases buses may replace trains over part of the affected route. Reduction in the number of commuter passengers With many businesses closed for the holidays, passenger numbers for the Train Operating Companies that operate on commuter routes may be reduced. This may mean that the Train Operator may reduce the number of trains they run and in some cases it may be that a Saturday or level of service is offered instead of the normal weekday service. Increase in the number of leisure travellers With many people taking the opportunity to get away for the holiday period, passenger numbers for those Train Operating Companies operating on routes to and from holiday destinations may increase. As a result those Train Operating Companies may run an amended service. This may mean there are additional trains at certain times during the day and/or fewer trains at other times of the day to cater for the additional passenger numbers. In general for the Bank Holiday weekend, many operators will run an amended service on Bank Holiday Monday, usually at a weekend level of service. Major engineering work will be affecting some routes, including those to / from London Liverpool Street, to / from London Kings Cross, and at various points on the West Coast Main Line to/from London Euston. A detailed summary of the train services being provided by each Train Operating Company over the holiday and details of the engineering work affecting their services are shown on the following pages. Details of London Underground, buses, trams and river services operated by Transport for London over the Bank Holiday weekend will be available from the Transport for London website. For the latest information, and maps showing the engineering work taking, please visit the National Rail Enquiries Early May Bank Holiday Travel Summary page - Page 2 Last Edited 01/05/2012

24 Additional information - Travel to and from the FA Cup Final - Due to the FA Cup Final, the few Virgin Trains services that are running from Liverpool on Saturday morning are expected to be extremely busy. Virgin Trains strongly recommend that you take an alternative route e.g. via Manchester or Chester. An additional train will be running, leaving at 09:26 from Liverpool Lime Street direct to London St Pancras International. There are extremely limited options for return travel after the match with no direct services from London Euston to Liverpool until. Network Rail have issued the following statement: "Improvement works on the railway are planned around 18 months in advance, ahead of any scheduling of sporting events and knowing which teams will compete in the final. Fewer people travel on the network at weekends and so essential works are planned for when they will be least disruptive. Unfortunately on this occasion, with the FA Cup final earlier in the month than usual and with the FA choosing a later kick-off time, it has resulted in Liverpool fans unable to return by train. Delaying the works to improve the line would mean further delays to more passengers at a later date." More information about Virgin Trains and other operators services for the FA Cup Final is available from the National Rail Enquiries website. Page 24 Last Edited 01/05/2012
