TRANSFORMING TRANSPENNINE MAY 2018 TIMETABLE We are now at a key milestone for our franchise, with the timetable change that comes into effect on Sunday 20 May 2018 the biggest and most important since This new timetable structure is also a big step which will enable us to start to introduce our new Nova fleet later this year. This newsletter focuses on our May 2018 timetable and details what is changing on our North, South and Anglo-Scottish routes.
THE NORTH ROUTE The May 2018 timetable will see a great deal of change for the North Route. Four fast trains per hour across the Pennines will all depart from Victoria. We will begin operating six trains per hour across the Pennines which includes calling at new stations between and Leeds; we will start to use the Ordsall Chord meaning that we ll connect s three main stations for the first time; and we will run two trains per hour to Liverpool Lime Street all operating on the Chat Moss line. From May 2018 two trains per hour will call at a number of new intermediate stations between and Leeds, and you can see the calling patterns for these services (right and overleaf). These will directly connect many of these stations to and Leeds for the first time. We will, except for at peak times, be the sole operator between to Huddersfield which should lead to performance improvements owing to the high performance of the trains operating on that section of our network. Piccadilly Stalybridge Greenfield Marsden Huddersfield Deighton Mirfield Ravensthorpe Dewsbury Batley Morley Cottingley (peak hours only) Leeds Key: New Station 2
HULL The May 2018 timetable will provide Hull with improved evening and weekend services, through the provision of hourly direct services in the evening and a consistent hourly service on Sundays. There are some changes to calling patterns with the introduction of the intermediate stations as set out below, which provide increased connectivity to/from Hull for these locations. Later this year Hull services will also benefit from a gradual increase of capacity with services increasing from three to six carriages. Piccadilly Stalybridge Mossley Slaithwaite Huddersfield Dewsbury Batley Leeds Garforth Selby Brough Hull 3
THE NORTH EAST AND LIVERPOOL Two trains per hour will operate between Newcastle and, with all North- East services to the Airport running via the Ordsall Chord calling at all three of s main stations. There will be Sunday enhancements at Middlesbrough meaning an hourly, instead of two hourly service. Liverpool Lime Street Scarborough services will run via the Chat Moss between Liverpool and Victoria calling at Lea Green, which means that we will no longer call at Birchwood, Warrington Central and Liverpool South Parkway. These stations will be served instead by a service provided by Northern Rail. This will mean a reduction in journey times by up to twenty minutes. Our Liverpool - Newcastle services will start to call at Newton-le-Willows. Please note some services do not call at all intermediate stations. Please consult timetable information on tpexpress.co.uk for details. Newcastle Chester-le-Street Durham Darlington Northallerton York Leeds Huddersfield Victoria Newton-le-Willows Liverpool Lime Street Key: New Station Scarborough Seamer Malton York Leeds Huddersfield Victoria Lea Green Liverpool Lime Street 4
THE SOUTH ROUTE The majority of the improvements to our South Route were delivered in December 2017, including additional weekend and evening services. Going forward our South Route will see a gradual strengthening of trains from three to six carriages starting from December Our Class 185s, which have undergone a 32m refurbishment including free Wi-Fi and our on-board entertainment, Exstream, will continue to serve our South Route for the duration of our franchise. There are some specific changes in May 2018 to note: 0505 Cleethorpes to Sheffield services runs through to Airport on Saturdays 0550 Airport to Sheffield runs through to Cleethorpes on Saturdays 1926 Cleethorpes to Sheffield service runs to Piccadilly Monday Saturday 1955 Airport to Sheffield service becomes a through service to Cleethorpes Mon-Fri The 2222 service will be extended from Sheffield to Doncaster seven days a week Following feedback, Habrough gains a uniform set of stops making things easier for customers 2026 Cleethorpes to Sheffield service will run through to Airport We will no longer call at Chinley 5
THE ANGLO-SCOTTISH ROUTE Delays to electrification between and Preston mean our Anglo-Scottish services will continue to run via Wigan. Owing to pathing constraints on the congested railway, all our Anglo-Scottish services will run non-stop between Piccadilly and Preston in each direction. They will no longer be serving Oxford Road or Wigan North Western. Glasgow Central Motherwell Edinburgh Haymarket Once electrification is complete we will return to running the route via Farnworth May 2018 most direct services to Glasgow will begin calling at Motherwell Lockerbie Carlisle Penrith North Lakes Oxenholme Lake District Lancaster Please note some services do not call at all intermediate stations. Please consult timetable information on tpexpress.co.uk for details. Preston Piccadilly Airport 6
