2 Grant offers accepted Apr l June 218 Regional Selective Assistance (RSA) is the main national scheme of fnancial assistance to industr. It provides discretionar grants to investment projects that will create and safeguard emplo ment in the Assisted Areas areas designated for regional aid under European Communit law. It also includes Tier 3 assistance in other designated areas where we can offer support to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), delivered under the EC s General Block Exemption Regulations. The attached table details the RSA offers accepted in the three months to end June 218. In this period 27 businesses in Scotland accepted RSA grant offers totalling over 4.5 million. These offers relate to projects with planned investment of over 16 million, aimed at the planned creation and safeguarding of over 536 jobs. Tier 3 accepted offers are marked with an *. Pa ment of RSA is made in instalments, t picall over several ears as job and capital expenditure targets are met. Not all projects will proceed, and nor do all accepted offers result in full pa ment, as projects are sometimes scaled down or abandoned before pa ments are made. The fgures quoted in the tables, therefore, represent the maximum grant potentiall pa able if the project is satisfactoril completed, and not the amount actuall paid to date. All job numbers given in this report are frms forecast fgures, and are subject to change depending on future economic conditions and other factors affecting the businesses concerned.
