Only four weeks to go... There's a Gala buzz in the air! Thanks to all the convenors and their teams who are putting in many hours baking, cleaning, potting, sewing, collecting, organising, sorting and more sorting in these last few weeks to get ready for the big day. There are however still some urgent gaps to fill. If you can help with a shift on the day or before, please let us know. It's a great way to meet new people, have fun and help support our school and kids. Please carefully read through the news that follows from our dedicated convenors. Including a look at the exciting new craft stall items for this year, they are fabulous! Help with Gala Setup - Friday 28th October Perhaps you're not able to help on the day but can spare time on Friday afternoon. We need a number of volunteers to help us set up from 1pm - 6pm. Can you give us a hand? Desperately Seeking Help! If you don't have a job yet please consider helping out at one of these stalls, even if you can only spare an hour. It will give someone else a break. Friday setup from 1pm Sausage sizzle Ainsley ams1@paradise.net.nz Toys Cherryl kiwiquaker@operamail.com Chocolate Wheel Justin jpotter@kns.school.nz Adults clothing Sophie sbarber@kns.school.nz Garage Sale Karl karlh@slingshot.co.nz Books Gillian gill.chris@paradise.net.nz please sign up as soon as you can so the convenors of these stalls can relax.

What's the buzz?...'tell Eleven' KNS Gala 2011 This is an easy and really effective way to advertise our biggest fundraising event of the year to the wider Wellington area. So, when you are out and about over the next few weeks, tell eleven (or more!) of your nearest and dearest. Invite them to support our school and maybe even grab a bargain or two at the same time. Drop off your donated goods over the holidays With the holidays just round the corner perhaps you can tempt the kids into earning a few extra dollars to spend at the Gala by helping you with a spring clean! We'd love to receive your donations of clean and good quality Books, Clothes, Toys, Baby and Toddler gear, Furniture, Household and Garden items for the Garage Sale. All goods can be dropped off to the School Hall between 1-4pm on the following days: Sunday 9 October Sunday 23 October Monday 24th October Baking Supplies Needed Thank you for the donations that have already been dropped off to the school office or directly to the various Gala teams. A reminder that the following items are gratefully received and will be transformed into Gala favourites. Plastic bags sugar (any variety) castor sugar and lemons fresh or frozen fruit (please drop frozen fruit directly to the Deli team) jars for chutneys, jams, curds and sauces. High grade flour, self-raising flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, hundreds & thousands, corn kernels, creamed corn, ricebran or grapeseed oil We have a very limited supply of plastic bags for use on the day. If you have some rattling around in the back of the cupboard please drop them into the school hall. Do also remember to bring along your own bags for ferrying goodies home on the day.

Clean-up crew Are you still looking for a way to be involved on the day? Do you have an hour to spare after the Gala? We need 5 or 6 people to help with a general cleanup - gloves and rubbish bags will be provided. Children's Clothing If you are planning to sell any children's clothes in the up coming month on Trade Me or giving any clothing [baby through to teenagers] to the op shops then please, please THINK TWICE. Firstly, It s now just over a week to the first drop off of clothes for the school gala [to the school hall]. Secondly, please be reassured that any quality clothes you give us will be marked up [eg $7+]. You will NOT see them sitting there for $2 or $3, So our school will definitely benefit [and at the end of the day we all know that what we receive from Trade Me can sometimes be minimal given the effort we put in!]. And finally, our aim is to raise at least $2500 in the children's clothing stall this year so we need everybody to contribute in some way. Start looking through your children's wardrobes and putting aside what they don t wear or need. All clothes [anything!!!] will be much appreciated ESPECIALLY if they have minimal to no marks the better the quality the more money we will make! We don t want ripped or badly marked or pulled clothes thanks. Also a BIG favour: if you can, please please drop off clothes in the school holidays [Sunday 9th, Sunday 23rd or Monday 24th between 1-4] as I m sure you will appreciate there is a lot of sorting to do and it can become a bit of headache receiving them a few days prior to the gala day. If you cant do this, then don t worry we will still have open arms for clothes received in that first week back at school. When you bag clothes up if you can separate the babies [0-3 years] from the children's [4-13 years] from the adults [14 years +] that would be a HUGE help. Thanks in advance, and looking forward to your goodies! Lisa Errington

Cake Stall This is a fun and easy stall to get involved with. Not much can be done until Gala week but then it s all go. We send home a disposable plate with every child in the Junior School (Years 1-4) requesting that the plate is returned at the end of the week with fresh and delicious home baking. We also have an area for the children where we sell cupcakes, gingerbread men, chocolate crackles and lots of other sweet treats. So if this stall sounds like you and you d like to join our small and friendly team I d love to hear from you. You can help by baking your specialities, helping us set up on the Friday and selling on the day. Give me a call if you d like to get be part of this stall. Thanks. Sue Beasley or Garden stall Sale proudly supported by It is looking likely that we ll be having an sale for the last Friday of this term (Friday 7 October) with strawberries, buxus and corokia getting away on us. We ll confirm the stock and sale closer to the date, and get you to us your orders, and then we can arrange delivery. After the wintry blasts the gardens are starting to look up again as spring arrives. Preparations are picking up for the garden stall and our helpers could do with more pots so if you have found any surplus during a spring clean, we would love to take them off your hands. Just give us a call or and we ll make a plan. If you are in the garden do remember us if you are dealing with plants that are just too big. Dig them out or divide them up and give us a call, we ll happily take them off your hands.

A special plea for helpers on the day: We are a busy stall and would love to have some more hands on deck. If you like the idea of the garden stall, but don t have time to help with plants, come and spend a couple of hours with us on the day. Just two hours from you before, during or after the gala would make all the difference. Ruth Wilkie Ruth.wilkie@gmail.com Robyn Cockburn rl.cockburn@xtra.co.nz Helpers needed for the Toy Stall This is a firm favourite with the kids (breathing room only!) and we need helpers to sell on the day and sort toys the week before. It's a really fun/fast paced stall to work in! Cheryl Corrado kiwiquaker@operamail.com Paul Hewitson kiwiquaker@operamail.com Designer Clothing Stall Ok everyone, just checking that you are making room in those wardrobes for the new spring/summer collection. WE NEED YOUR DISCARDS! We can find a new home for all those clothes you don't need anymore including men, women and children's clothing. All clothing in good condition is sold on Gala Day on one of the clothing stalls. Our stall also sells handbags, wallets, scarves, hats and jewellery. You name it we sell it! Only exception is worn underwear and bras. You can drop off your donations to me at 104 Donald Street or keep them until the drop off time arrives at KNS. Also if you have an hour or two to spare to help sort the general clothing this year we are really in need of helpers in this area. We would love you on the team! Ph Celia on or text me on and let me know if you would like to help.

Bookstall helpers urgently needed The popular gala bookstall urgently needs two or three extra helpers. There's not much to it: keeping the books, music and magazines tidy; pointing people in the right direction; collecting heaps of money for your school! If you can help on the day, please call me. Gillian McIlraith Love Lemon Curd? Caster Sugar and Lemons Please!! If anyone has access to lemons up to and over the school holidays please contact us as we would love to have them for the lemon curd. We can freeze the juice so any time is good. We also need caster sugar - an easy way to make a great contribution - please leave donations at the school office for collection. With thanks from the lemon curd team! Deb Petersen richdeb@xtra.co.nz
