In addition, the reflections for October and November have been written by Haloti 2 On behalf of the Local and Global Mission Team a great big "THANK YOU" to all our friends who donated so generously to the Outback BBQ fundraiser for the Church's Frontier Services. A big "Thank You" to those who provided food. It was a great social occasion with 29 from both Services attending. The amazing figure of $582 was raised.

4 3 Young adult s board games/hang out afternoon and evening We will be hosting a board games/ hang out afternoon and evening on Saturday October 13th at our place which will start at 4pm and finish at 9:30pm, though parents are more than welcome to drop off and pick up their children at any time. There will also be no cost for the event and is for people ages 8 and up into young adult ages. There will be a BBQ dinner (sausage sizzle and salad with sausages and salad provided by us (say that 10 times quickly!), unless people want to bring something different along), BYO soft drink (unless people are happy with water), and people are more than welcome to bring along any board games that they wish to (there are plenty here as well to choose from). If people need more information they are more than welcome to contact Jen and I on our home number Mark Mossop 4 INDONESIA TSUNAMI CRISIS Friday s massive earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia has killed more than 1,400 people and the death toll continues to rise. 70,000 have been made homeless. Electricity and communications are down in the affected areas and there is a desperate lack of food, water and fuel. The Local and Global Mission Team have a donation box in the foyer if you are able to give. You can also donate in marked envelopes in the collection. There is a poster in the back with more information.

5 5 Any hope for Palestine now, or ever? Palestinian Christians rarely have their voices heard above the ongoing tensions. This is your chance to take a step off the tourist track and main stream media reporting, to go beyond the Holy Land tours of Biblical sites and get up close and personal with a fellow sister in Christ. Hear exactly why life is so dire and the relentless, dehumanising plight facing all Palestinians. Learn ways that you can extend the love of Christ and offer hope for a future worth celebrating. Hear Areej speak at a on Monday 22 October 6.00pm pm at Jesmond Park Uniting Church. Donations towards tour costs gratefully received on the night. There is a poster with all the information on the back wall. 6 A big thank you to all who were involved in the Murder Mystery Nights. Thank you to the cast and others involved, all those who worked in the kitchen to provide the delicious desserts and to all who attended on the nights. The profit from the night was $2, A fabulous effort. Half of the profit is going to the Northern Settlement Services to support the refugee program. Thank you everyone! 7 Car Park Works. On Monday 8 th work will commence on the car park upgrade to remove the concrete and steel barriers, reseal the surface and add new lines and signage. This is expected to take 2 days but of course may take longer.

6 8 Generations of Talent and Men s Cooking Auction Saturday 10 November at 7pm entry with gold coin donation. Yes, our very successful men s cooking auction that ran for many years at St. Luke s is back. So come along for a great night of entertainment, laughs and fun and go home with some food cooked by the men and boys of St Luke s that you successfully bid and paid for. We are asking all the men and boys at St Luke s to cook something for our auctioneer to sell during the night. Sweets, biscuits, bread, chocolate, slices, curries, stews - anything at all, and please give your culinary delights a name! (many of you will remember Ray s Rocky Road!) Please fill in the sheet at the back of the gathering area We are also looking for items for the entertainment part of the program. Whether you are a G.I, SG, BB, Gen X, Millennial, Gen Y or Z it doesn t matter, because at St Luke s we are celebrating our diverse age range and there is talent among us that has to be seen and heard! If you have an idea, would like to perform something or participate please see Alison Gill, Jean Thirkettle or Jenny Mathieson. 9 Thursday bible study with Bruce Kay will be back after the school holidays on Thursday 18 October from 12pm - 2pm in the gathering area. 7 St Luke s Carnival Saturday 27 th October Only 3 weeks to go! Annual Pre Carnival Clean Up Working Bee Saturday morning 13th October 8 30am to about early afternoon. This is the annual and most important clean up of the property prior to the Carnival. It includes both the grounds and the buildings and is to get the property into a great shape to showcase our church and grounds to all our visitors. Please come as or when you are able, there will be plenty of inside and outside jobs to be done, large and small and all help will be appreciated. Bring cleaning equipment, tools for gardening, rakes and brooms and other tools to clean all manner of forgotten corners. Hope to see you at some stage all help is appreciated. Still needed a person to operate the Eftpos machine Still urgently needed are volunteers to work on stalls & activities on Carnival Day. Please fill out a volunteer sheet today and leave in the basket on the back table. There are still several stalls/activities who desperately need more workers. Wanted to borrow for use at Carnival - Gazebos for shade cover for outdoor stalls. Please contact Jenny Mathieson: or jennyandray@bigpond.com if you have one we can borrow. Please do this as soon as possible, because if no one has them, we may have to purchase a couple.
