2 About The San Mateo County Fair The San Mateo County Fair Where Tradition Meets Innovation boasts a stunning variety of world-class musical entertainment, live performances, fun festival food, local and traditional contests, and a Ferris Wheeling carnival. The Fair lasts nine days and will be attended by over 130,000 guests. The San Mateo County Fair consistently wins top awards from the Western Fair Association. The Fair is governed by a Board of Directors, who work closely with Fair organizers to develop new programs and attractions to maintain the highest quality Fair program in the country. With the support of sponsors and hundreds of volunteers and supporters, the event continues to evolve to be world-class each year. 3 Fair highlights Don t Miss This Year s Fair! The 2013 San Mateo County Fair will have plenty of the traditions fair goers expect and many new features and programs to ensure that the Fair is as relevant to San Mateo County residents as possible. Below are brief highlights of some of the Fair favorites and new events and attractions that should not be missed! Pig Races Pie Contest Pig Races- a Fairl favorite Pig races every day throughout the day. Come root for your favorite pig racer at the Hambone Express. FREE Summer Concert Series All 9 days of the Fair- Attend concerts FREE with any Fair Admission ticket. This is one of the best summer values in California! The Fair s stellar lineup includes many new acts featuring: Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas, Morris Day and The, Three Dog Night, The Whispers, Tower of Power, and award winning Queen and Aerosmith tribute bands: Queen Nation, and Aerorocks. 4 Fair highlights Chinese Acrobats of Hebei Team Sudsy Ferris Wheel FREE Grounds Entertainment The Chinese Acrobats of Hebei from the Northern Province of China are back for the second year to mesmerize audiences at the Fair! These masters of agility combine Chinese traditions, incredible acrobatics, stunning costumes, props all set to a beautiful music sound track. Other popular grounds entertainment includes Steve Bayner Hypnotist; Baloonacy; Cowgirl Tricks; Kids Train; Super Science; Ham Bone Express (Pig Races); The Cutest Show on Earth (Kid s Theater); Team Sudsy: a play based interactive Water Park Hand-washing attraction. The Rainforest Adventure with animals and 100+ tropical plants and trees throughout the exhibit to create a lush tropical Rainforest environment preenting a unique educational opportunity for children and adults alike; The Great American Petting Zoo; and much more... Carnival Rides Butler Amusements, a family owned company for over forty years returns with popular rides including: The Zillerator Roller Coaster, The 1001 Nights, The Giant Gondola Wheel, NItro, Zipper, Gravitron and more. The Zillerator Roller Coaster is hands down (or is it hands up?) the top ride at the Fair. Food From Big Bubba s Bad Barbeque, famous for their pulled pork sandwiches, to Fat Fanny s funnel cakes and more, Fair food is part of the fun! The Whispers Saturday, June 8, 2013 One of R&B music s most beloved and consistently popular vocal groups, The Whispers, began their legendary and timeless career in Twin brothers Walter and Wallace Scott joined with friends Nicholas Caldwell, Marcus Hutson, and Gordy Harmon to form a local singing group. They perfected their tight harmonies on the street corners in the Watts section of Los Angeles and in nightclubs in the in the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Area. They will be playing a special eunion performance on April 12th at the Circle Star Theater. Aerorocks Sunday, June 9, 2013 For the past 15 years, Aerorocks: The World s #1 Tribute to Aerosmith has consistently thrilled audiences worldwide, touring and performing on five different continents! Tuesday June 11, and Wednesday June 12, 2013 For the past 44 years, Tower of Power has been creating their own kind of soul music. Since 1968, Tower of Power has delivered their unique brand of music to their fans, appearing before sold out crowds as they tour the world each year. Tower s sound can be hard to categorize, but the band s leader and founding member, Emilio Castillo, has labeled their sound as Urban Soul Music. Starship featuring Mickey Thomas Thursday, June 13, 2013 Starship is one of the most iconic rock bands from the eighties, recording several of the decade s biggest anthems, including We Built This City, Nothing s Gonna Stop Us Now and Sara. While the band s history goes back to the sixties, the incarnation still performing these hits today was started in 1979 when Mickey Thomas joined Paul Kantner to resurrect Jefferson Starship.

Soon after the world was introduced the prolific Minneapolis music marvel, the group went on to record three more albums, including What Is It? Pigs can run 11 miles per hour that s faster than a six -minute mile! Test Your Carnival Ride IQ! Q: Who Invented The Ferris Wheel? A: The Ferris Wheel was invented by George W. Ferris for the 1893 Worlds Fair, which was held in Chicago to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Columbus s landing in America. Q: What is Fairy Floss? A: Fairy floss was the original name of what we now know as Cotton Candy. It was first invented in 1897 and made it s debut in 1904 at the St. Louis World s Fair.
