July 2018 2018 Impact Report After 35 years of success, it s safe to say Camp Bruce McCoy isn t your typical summer experience.

But Camp Bruce McCoy does so much more than that. At camp, people with brain injury can let loose and be themselves.

And they are encouraged to be independent, all the while having fun in a safe environment.

1 July Impact Report After 35 years of success, it s safe to say Camp Bruce McCoy isn t your typical summer experience. Camp Bruce McCoy is a residential program where adults with brain injury can enjoy a vacation and meet friends old and new, providing caregivers a much needed break. But Camp Bruce McCoy does so much more than that. At camp, people with brain injury can let loose and be themselves. They make connections with people who actually understand them - a first for many of our campers. They are inspired to try new things and push their boundaries. And they are encouraged to be independent, all the while having fun in a safe environment. We never know what each day at camp will bring, but we do know everyone always goes to bed with smiles on their faces. Your donations and support make this possible. Camp Bruce McCoy truly would not happen without the support of the brain injury community. To our donors, members, volunteers, staff, counselors and many more, we cannot say it enough THANK YOU

35 years of moments, connections, resilience, care, inclusion, opportunity, growth, emotional highs and lows and building of lifelong friendships. This year was no exception.

4 Camp 2018 Reflections Dana Larson, Co-director Victoria Erikson said Paradise has never been about places. It exists in moments. In connection. In flashes across time. This year marked the 35th anniversary of Camp Bruce McCoy. 35 years of moments, connections, resilience, care, inclusion, opportunity, growth, emotional highs and lows and building of lifelong friendships. This year was no exception. We saw new activities this year. The Low Ropes course brought the challenge of tight-rope walking closer to the ground and created opportunity for many of our group to try something new. Our friends in the barn expanded their offering to include a full-blown petting zoo complete with baby goats, baby pigs, baby chickens, and mini horses. We also saw the return of The Gauntlet, an age-old camp tradition providing campers the ammunition to saturate a group of counselors in silly string, confetti, and whipped cream pies- before washing them off thoroughly during Water Olympics. One of our new counselors celebrated his unforgettable 21st birthday this way, as our group sang him happy birthday while he led the Gauntlet. These are the things that keep many of us coming back. People reaching out and touching each other s hearts and souls in the small but significant ways: holding the mic for someone to sing karaoke; helping someone stand to boogie on the dance floor; holding a bow for another person to fire an arrow down range. Every year brings us something new, and we leave, exhausted but with renewed excitement for next year s camp. Now that we re all home and rested, we want to extend our warmest, deepest gratitude to everyone who makes these two weeks possible. To the campers, families, staff, the team at the Triple R Ranch, and the countless community members who sponsor activities, campers, and supplies: Thank you for helping us maintain our collective slice of paradise. See you there next year.
