1 NCI Adult Recreation Calendar September, 2015 Sept. 1, 5, 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, 19, 20, 22, 26, 27, 29: Freight House Famers Market, 421 West River Drive, Davenport, Iowa. Over 100 growers, bakers, crafters, and artisans will have their items for sale. This is the largest Farmers Market in the Quad Cities. During the Spring, Summer, and Fall the Freight House Farmers Market is held outdoors and indoors. During November through April the Farmers Market in the Freight House is held indoors. You will find farm fresh fruits, vegetables, delicious baked goods, poultry, beef, lamb, pork, cheese, wine, eggs, honey, jams, jellies, dips and salsas, candy, fresh cut and dried flowers, seeds, bedding plants, annuals, and perennials, house plants, amazing art pieces, homemade soaps, doggie treats, beautiful heritage quality crafts, and you could even enjoy a massage from a licensed massage therapist. Sept. 2: 1:00pm Birds of Prey Presentation at West Lake Park, Lakeview Shelter (enter Gate #1) The presentation will include biology, ecology, human impacts, and live owls and falcons. Admission is free. Sept. 3: 5:30pm Swing Dancing at the Figge Art Museum, 225 West 2 nd Street, Davenport. Partner and experience not required. They will pair you up and teach you some moves. Go and dance away the stress of your day or simply take a chair and enjoy listening to the big band music and watch the dancing. This is a free activity. Sept. 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26, 30: 8:00am-12:00pm Stop by the Mississippi Valley Growers Association Farmers Market on Wednesdays & Saturdays from May to October for great locally grown products! Wednesdays & Saturdays 8:00 AM-12:00 PM at North Park Mall, 320 West Kimberly Road, Davenport. Sept. 3-Nov. 19 th : (Thursdays) 7:00pm Collage Theater at the Annie Whittenmeyer Complex on Eastern Avenue in Davenport. The cost of the activity is $33.60 for Davenport residents and $42.00 for nonresidents. Sept. 4, 11, 18, 25: 5:00pm Enjoy a weekly after-work outdoor concert featuring local bands on the River Music Experience Plaza, 129 Main Street, Davenport, Iowa. This is a free activity. Sept. 5-7: 10:00am-10:00pm Labor Day Weekend Pow Wow at Black Hawk State Historic Site, th Ave., Rock Island, Illinois. 74th Annual Labor Day Weekend Pow Wow with Native American Dancing and Drumming as well as authentic Native American arts, crafts and Foods. Free Shuttle Bus from Roe Aquairium located on 11th St. Rock Island Il to and from Pow Wow. This will be a 3 day event this year.. August 30th thru Sept 1. This event is being put on by Meskwaki Annual Pow Wow Association; Sac and Fox Volunteer Committee; Citizens to Preserve Black Hawk Park; Black Hawk State Historic Site and IHPA. Along with the traditional songs and dances Kevin Locke World Reknown Hoop Dancer and Native Pride Dance Troupe will be featured performances.. Please bring lawn chairs and

2 blankets Ground open at 10 am each day and on Saturday and Sunday close at 10 pm Monday Sept 1 grounds close at 6 pm. For additional information contact Anna McMeekan at Sept. 5-6: Rock Island Grand Prix, th Street, Rock Island, Illinois. The world's best drivers come to compete for one of go-karting's largest cash purses with payouts through ninth place. Last year, more than 30,000 spectators came to experience the two days of racing. The festival includes nightly outdoor concerts, driver's parade, fan autograph session and special Sunday post-race awards ceremony. There are also food and merchandise booths, kid's activities and other race-related activities. Sept. 6-7: 1100:am-5:00pm Period Village Labor Day Celebration at the Walnut Grove Pioneer Village, th Street, Long Grove, Iowa. Period dressed volunteers demonstrate crafts & sell their wares. Food vendors and ice cream and pie in the soda fountain, children s games, make-it-take-it crafts & fun for all. Listen to old time music in the Saloon and Gazebo. Sept. 6, 8-13, 15-20, 22-27, 29, 30: You re a Good Man Charles Schulz Exhibit at the German American Heritage Center, 712 West 2 nd Street, Davenport, Iowa. Museum hours are 10am-4pm Tues.-Sat., and 12pm-4pm on Sunday. For more information call Learn about the Peanuts and its creator Charles Shultz in this for the whole family exhibit. Sept. 7: 11:00am Quad City Labor Day Parade. The parade route is as follows: 13 th Street in East Moline to 15 th Avenue in East Moline to 3 rd Street in East Moline to 12 th Avenue in East Moline to 7t Street in East Moline to Beacon Harbor o Harvest Way in East Moline. Sept. 11: 6:00pm Country Hoedown at the Bettendorf Community Center, Grand Street in Bettendorf. Admission is $5.00 and this includes staff. Sept. 12: 1:00pm Monarch Butterfly Workshop at the Wapsi River Center. This is a workshop on monarch butterflies and other pollinators. During this program, participants will take a hike to the prairie to catch monarch butterflies and collect data for Project Monarch Health and Monarch Watch. You will also get a chance to see the indoor observation bee hive and learn about the hardships of monarchs and other pollinators are facing and what you can do to help our pollinator friends. It will be family fun for everyone. Please call to pre-register at Sept. 12: QCA Heritage Tractor Parade and Show at the John Deere Pavilion, 1400 River Drive, Moline, Illinois. This tractor parade and show features all brands/colors 1970 and older. Admission to the parade and show are free. For more information call Sept. 12: 9:00am Special Olympics Unified Golf Tournament at Red Hawk Golf Course, 6364 North West Blvd, Davenport, Iowa. Admission is free. Pre-registration through Marie Randol at or Sherrie Fisher at is required. Sept. 12, 13: The Beaux Arts Fair will be held on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13 on the plaza of the beautiful Figge Art Museum. Fair hours are 10 to 5 Saturday and 10 to 4 Sunday. Admission is free. Enjoy free admission to the Figge through September 20 to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Downtown Davenport, IA is the perfect place to enjoy this urban art fair. Food venders as

3 well as the great restaurants in the downtown will be available. Children's activities will be going on all weekend. This is a great place to take the family and purchase those one-of-a-kind pieces of art. Sept. 13- October 18 th (On Sundays) 6:00pm Bocce Ball League at Lindsay Park in the Village of East Davenport. The cost is $10,00 for residents of Davenport and $12.00 for non-residents. Sept. 18, 19 Celtic Festival and Highland Games at Centennial Park, 905 West River Drive, Davenport, Iowa. This event gives free access to the Celtic culture and all it has to offer. Cultural education is given by Highland Clans and Societies to help our guests learn of clan heritage, whether they belong or not. The Irish and Scottish Athletic Competitions are the traditional 'battles of brawn' that have been played for more than 300 years. Recently, the Celtic Cultures Alliance of the Quad Cities has added a full-length rugby game with the Quad-City Irish Rugby team. There are performances with Celtic bands, singers and dancers that highlight and show guests the splendor of the Celtic entertainment world, while at the same time educating them. Workshops and educational presentations are done throughout the event and are offered for all age groups. There are family activities, children s games, and storytelling for all who want to hear the tales. Dance competitions showcase the region's talented dancers of all ages. Admission is free. Sept. 19: SCW Wrestling at the Walcott Coliseum, 116 E. Bryant St., Walcott, Iowa. Admission is $8.00 and there will also be food available at cost. Sept. 19, 20: 10:00am-4:00pm Riverssance Festival of Fine Art at Lindsay Park, 2200 Est River Drive, Davenport, Iowa. This year's juried art fair event features over 100 artists from across the nation including several artists who will be showing for the first time in the area. Enjoy Live Music booked by the River Music Experience: There will be a free children s art projects tent, Wine tasting, and delicious foods in the quaint setting of the historic Village of East Davenport overlooking the Mississippi River. For more information call Sept : Quad City Balloon Festival at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds, 4200 Archer Drive, East Moline. This family friendly event is free to attend with a canned good or non-perishable good donation. All proceeds from the 2015 QC Balloon Festival are used to support the River Bend Foodbank Backpack Program. FRIDAY: The event begins with a balloon launch at 5:00 p.m. to watch the balloons inflate and fly. Then stay enjoy a Night Glow at 6:30 p.m. when the tethered balloons' colors light up in the night. You can come up close to these gentle giants, take pictures and talk to the pilots during the Glow. SATURDAY: The morning begins at with a closed flight/race at 7:00 am for the pilots. On Saturday evening, the balloons launch at 5:00 p.m. and then return to the field for a Night Glow at 6:30 p.m. SUNDAY: The event ends at with a closed flight/race at 7:00 am for the pilots. For more information, visit or Facebook/Quad Cities Balloon Festival. Sept. 27: Village Harvest Moon Song and Dance Fest at Walnut Grove Pioneer Village, th Street, Long Grove, Iowa. Experience over 100 years of rural American music and dance demonstrations!

4 Our music adventure starts with songs written in 1840 to 1900 performed by Stacy Webster of Iowa City, followed by music from performed by local Zither, Ukulele and Barber Shop Quartet groups leading into the 1930's Carter Family Songs performed by Marc & Brandi Janssen, Iowa City and a Square Dance demonstration, then 1940's cowboy and country music by The Carpenter's Kin, a polka demonstration by the Eastern Chapter of the Iowa Polka Club with music by John & Kay Retzl and rapping up with late 1950's country music and the event's title song: Harvest Moon, written by Neil Young in Admission: $5.00 adults, $3.00 children at the gate. Cedar Rapids Seat Prices At Quad City River Bandits: Club Seating- $14.00 Lower Box- $12.00 Upper Box- $10.00 Bleacher -$8.00 Modern Woodmen Berm - $ Senior Citizens Golf Cart Tour registration now available online Come join the fun on Thursday, September 3 by signing up for the 16th Annual Senior Citizens Riverfront Golf Cart Tours. Reservations are required and space is limited. The deadline for reservations is September 1! The tours are Thursday, Sept. 3, and will use existing riverfront trails, and offer participants an opportunity to see and hear all that the riverfront has to offer from the front seat of a golf cart. This is a great opportunity to gain some knowledge on the past, present and future of many of our riverfront amenities in the Quad Cities. Tours fill up fast and carts are limited, so don't delay. There are now six tours from which to choose. All tours are $12.50 per person and last approximately two hours. Tour times (except for Iowa Tour #1 and Tour Alpha) are 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The only times for Tour Alpha are 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Iowa Tour #1 is only available 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.. { All time slots for the Iowa Alpha Tours are now closed, along with the 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., to 11 a.m., and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Arsenal #2 Tours }

5 Iowa Alpha Tour - Brand new last year, this tour will start at Credit Island and focus on the natural places of the Quad Cities at Nahant Marsh and Carp Lake. Tour Alpha is at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Tour #1 - Iowa Tour - Tour the Bettendorf/Davenport riverfront, starting at Credit Island and traveling to Leach Park and back. We will stop at River Way projects, as well as other exciting ports of call. Only available at 2 p.m. Tour #2 - Arsenal Island Tour - Tour the Arsenal Island's beautiful riverfront trail. We will make stops at Memorial Park, the Col. Davenport House, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Visitor Center and River Action's green parking lot. Tour #3 - Illinois Tour - Visit the Rock Island and Moline riverfronts starting at Sunset Park, Rock Island, and traveling to Sylvan Island and Ben Butterworth Parkway in Moline and then returning to Sunset Park. Tour #4 - Illinois Tour - Starting at the east end of Ben Butterworth Parkway at 55th Street in Moline and ride through East Moline and Hampton to the Village of Rapids City and then return to Moline. The tour includes stops at 'The Quarter' and Empire Park in East Moline, Hampton's Riverfront Park, Illiniwek State Park and Lock & Dam 14. Tour #5 - Illinois Tour - Ride along the newest segment of the Great River Trail. The tour begins in Rapids City and will go through Port Byron and all the way to Cordova. Start and end at Shuler's Shady Grove at 11th Street in Rapids City. Bring sun protection and bottled water, and enjoy a tour on the riverfront!
