2 Your Parks, Recreation & Cultural Affairs (PRCA) staff has been busy over the past few months getting ready for more activities and programs for you to enjoy this coming spring and summer. The Farmington Museum is adding several additional trips to their popular Museum EdVenture series. Check out the great new sites and times in this edition of Gateways on page 39. We also have a few exciting construction updates and announcements. Renovations started on the Civic Center theater in November and will be moving to the Exhibit Hall side soon. New field lights were installed at the San Juan College softball and soccer fields. Also, look for the ground breaking for the Aquatic Facility at Brookside Park in the very near future. Farmington is definitely the place where Outdoor Lovers Thrive. These are exciting times to live, work, play or stay in Farmington. Keep close to Nature s heart and break clear away, once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean. 5 FACILITIES ANIMAL SERVICES AQUATICS Farmington Regional Animal Shelter 133 Browning Parkway, Farmington, NM Adoption and Volunteer Operations (505) San Juan County Animal Control Dispatch (505) Hours of Operation: Seven (7) days a week - 11:30 am to 5:30 pm Holiday Hours: April 1 - CLOSED for Easter May 28 - CLOSED for Memorial Day July 4 - CLOSED for Independence Day The Farmington Regional Animal Shelter (FRAS) provides housing for homeless pets until they find their forever homes. FRAS offers: Animal adoptions Low cost spay and neuter services for residents Foster program that places animals in temporary homes until they are old enough or well enough to be adopted Dog walking program, where you can walk a dog that is up for adoption through Animas Park Volunteer opportunities including cleaning, transporting animals, socializing puppies, and working community events Regional Animal Shelter Foundation The Regional Animal Shelter Foundation is a 501(c)3, nonprofit group that helps support FRAS. They help by purchasing supplies and equipment outside of the regular shelter budget and also help by funding certain programs such as treating heartworm positive dogs. May 28 - CLOSED for Memorial Day July 4 - CLOSED for Independence Day The Farmington Civic Center is currently under construction for an expansion renovation. When finished it will include an larger ballroom and more breakout space for meetings within the multi-utilization facility, which serves as a convention and conference site, as well as a performing and visual arts center. The Civic Center business office has an on-site Box Office, as well as friendly staff to help you plan your event. Convention and business meeting rooms are equipped with audio visual equipment. Rentals: Call us to plan you next special event, conference or show. LIONS WILDERNESS AMPHITHEATER Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater 5800 College Boulevard, Farmington, NM General Information/Rentals: (505) Lions Wilderness Park Amphitheater is a beautiful natural sandstone amphitheater. The amphitheater, pavilion and kitchen are available to rent for weddings, company parties, and other special events. Don t miss Sandstone Production s Mary Poppins the Broadway Musical this summer! E 3 Children s Museum & Science Center has the Tots Turf - a toddler friendly environment - an activity room, and hands-on exhibits for all ages. E 3 seeks to develop children s creative thinking and reinforce curricular goals by providing: Programs Projects Permanent exhibits Weekly craft and science programming for children and their parents Regularly scheduled special exhibits, which may include special entrance fees Rentals: E 3 s activity room is available for birthday parties for a $75.00 rental fee. The Nature Center offers: Interactive exhibits exploring the environment and wildlife of Farmington Exhibits by nature photographers, artists, and projects by area schools Free weekly programming for all ages Wetlands for wildlife Extensive xeriscape demonstration garden with interpretive exhibits ATTENTION EDUCATORS! Do you have a large group of children you would like to bring in for a field trip? You can call the Farmington Museum System Educators if you would like to have a program created around your curriculum. We can find something for every classroom s goal. The Farmington Recreation Center has: A full-size gymnasium Five (5) racquetball courts Two (2) small class/meeting rooms Public restrooms, lockers, and shower facilities Racquetball: M-Sa - $3.00 per hour, per person Racquet rental - $1.00 per racquet Proper court shoes must be worn and eye guards are recommended. Tons of daily activities are planned throughout the week. Lunch Program: M-F - 11:45 am to 1:00 pm Hot lunch served daily for those 60+ years of age. 12 OUTDOOR FACILITIES LAKE FARMINGTON North off E Main Street (505) Lake Farmington offers tons of outdoor experiences. Come to fish or enjoy the water on a non-motorized watercraft (free on-site aquatic invasive species inspection required before entering), swim at The Beach or get some exercise exploring the shoreline. The lake access fee grants you entrance to the area and access to all of the recreational opportunities. Find out more at SHELTER RESERVATIONS Park Shelter Reservations (505) Reservation Desk Hours of Operation: M-Sa - 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Reserve a park shelter for family picnics, reunions, and church meetings online under Quick Links on the website or via phone. Shelters can be reserved up to 365 days in advance. No reservations are needed November 1 - March 1. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
