2 Summer Camps at St. Anne s School of Annapolis Enrich Annapolis! 2010 Summer Programs for the Community This summer St. Anne s School of Annapolis has combined the characteristics of our long-running and well-loved summer camp with a few new additions to offer campers an exciting and varied day camp experience. REGISTRATION Summer camps begin June 14 and end August 6. You can register on-line now at. A $25 deposit is required for each week at the time of registration. Refunds minus your deposit will be made if cancellations occur two weeks prior to the start of cancelled weeks. DISCOUNTS Register before March 15 and receive a 5% discount. 4 Summer CAMPS Starfish Register on-line at Starfish/Starfish Plus/Starfish Plus All Day Ages: 3-4 The Starfish programs at Camp Annapolis are designed for children ages 3 and 4, who are toilet trained. Starfish will experience exciting, themed activities each week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, campers will also have an opportunity to participate in Mini-Explorations Stations. Each week of camp will feature a different half-hour Mini-Exploration Station. All Starfish Plus and Starfish Plus All Day campers will attend the Mini-Exploration Station in small groups on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Mini-Exploration Stations are guided by St. Anne s School of Annapolis staff and community professionals. Mini-Exploration Station: Mini Musicians On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, campers will participate in a small group experience focusing on musical exploration for small children. Week 2 June Butterfly World and Insect Nation Investigate beautiful butterflies and interesting insects this week at camp. Mini-Exploration Station: Tiny Tot Tumbling On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, campers will participate in a small group experience focusing on tumbling and gymnastics for small children. Week 3 June 28-July 2 Circus, Circus Show your spirit and prepare for a Fourth of July themed parade and circus at the end of the week. Mini Exploration Station: Creative Movement for Active Tots On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, campers will participate in a small group experience focusing on using their imagination to explore basic dance and music concepts. Week 4 July 6-9 Chemistry Magic (Short Week) Make your own ice cream, send off film canister rockets, and much more while you enjoy investigating the magic of chemistry. Mini-Exploration Station: Mini-Chef On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, campers will participate in a small group experience focusing on making healthy snacks. Week 5 July Up, Up and Away Hold on tight! This week at camp explore airplanes, rockets and other flying objects. Mini-Exploration Station: Creative Movement for Active Tots On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, campers will participate in a small group experience focusing on using their imagination to explore basic dance and music concepts. Week 6 July Camp Rock Get into the groove, dance, sing and celebrate to music all week long. Week 7 July Garden Week Discover how vegetables go from seed, to plant to food on our tables. Campers will have an opportunity to choose vegetables to take home from our garden, which they have helped to maintain. On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, campers will enjoy an hour of swimming at the Fishing Creek Farm Community Pool. Each week, campers will also have an opportunity to choose two Exploration Stations for enrichment. 8 Summer CAMPS explorers Register on-line at Explorers Ages: Entering Fourth-Eighth Grade The Explorers programs at Camp Annapolis are designed for children entering Fourth through Eighth Grades. Campers primarily will be placed in groups according to age, in order to ensure an enjoyable challenging experience for all children. Campers will participate in exciting themed activities each week. 12 Summer CAMPS Engineering Camps Register on-line at This summer St. Anne s School of Annapolis is proud to offer several engineering camps for campers entering Fourth through Eighth grade. We have partnered with talented, innovative instructors to create these exciting opportunities. Instructor Dana Aucoin started the LEGO Robotics Program at St. Anne s School in the Spring of 2006 to get boys and girls interested in science, technology, engineering and math. Dana s philosophy when working with students is to mentor and guide them toward teamwork through problem-solving challenges. Registration Register on-line at. Cancellations St. Anne s School of Annapolis reserves the right to cancel any program that does not meet specific enrollment. A full refund will be made if a program is cancelled. Engineering for Girls Ages: Entering Fourth-Eighth Grades Monday-Friday, June 21-June 25 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Fees: $300 This is a five-day fun and creative learning experience for girls who enjoy discovering new things, solving problems and learning how things work. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Structured lessons and challenges will introduce girls to electrical, mechanical, aerospace, civil and environmental engineering while completing several projects and mini challenges. During the first three days, girls work in pairs to solve challenges through engaging engineering activities. During the last two days, they build and program a RCX robot using the LEGO Mindstorms (RCX) Robotics Invention System. In addition to the projects, a female scientist or engineer from the past will be highlighted each day as an inspiration to the girls. Minimum age is entering Fourth Grade. No previous experience is required. Students will have a partner for most activities and are expected to cooperate and share well. Parent Drop Off and Class Locations Room assignments for programs will be posted in the front lobby each day. Parents must escort their children to their assigned rooms. At the end of class, parents must return to the classroom and sign out their children with the instructor. 12

13 Register on-line at Summer CAMPS Engineering Camps Lego Robotics for Beginners Ages: Entering Fourth-Eighth Grades Tuesday-Friday, July6-July9 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Fees: $240 This is a four-day fun and creative learning experience. Campers work in pairs to solve challenges by building and programming robots using the LEGO Robolab (RCX) Robotics Invention System. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Structured lessons and challenges will introduce beginner-level construction, use of sensors, and programming topics. All student teams will complete several projects and mini challenges. Minimum age is entering Fourth Grade. No previous experience is required. Students will have a partner for most activities, and are expected to cooperate and share well. Each morning will include structured lessons and activities to practice construction and programming skills. Each afternoon, student teams may choose from several projects or create their own projects and challenges, while receiving guidance and coaching. Campers will go swimming Wednesday morning and should arrive at camp ready to swim, with a change of clothes for after swimming. Advanced Lego Robotics Ages: Entering Fourth-Eighth Grades Monday-Friday, July19-July23 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Fees: $300 This is a five-day fun and creative learning experience for kids who have experience using Lego Robolab or Mindstorm programming software. Campers work in pairs to solve challenges by building and programming robots using the LEGO Mindstorms (NXT) Robotics Invention System. In addition to having fun, participants learn about mechanical and software design, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Structured lessons and challenges will introduce intermediate-level construction, use of sensors, and programming topics. During the first part of the week, students will design and program a robot to solve FIRST LEGO League robot competition challenges from past FLL seasons (see During the second part of the week, students will work in teams to compete in a Robotic competition, which will be held on the last afternoon of camp. Minimum age is entering Fourth Grade. Previous experience using Lego Robolab or Mindstorms programming software is required. Students will have a partner for most activities, and are expected to cooperate and share well. The morning part of each day includes structured lessons and activities to practice construction and programming skills. In the afternoon, student teams may choose from several projects or create their own projects and challenges, while receiving guidance and coaching. Campers will go swimming Monday and Wednesday mornings and should arrive at camp ready to swim, with a change of clothes for after swimming. 13

14 Summer CAMPS Before and After Camp Register on-line at Drop off time for Before Camp is 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop your child off before 8:55 or you will be charged for Before Camp. The fee for Before Camp is $25 per week. After Camp begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. If your child is not picked up by 3:15 we will assume they are going to After Camp. If you are delayed due to traffic or unforeseeable problems, please contact us at The fees for After Camp are: $25 per week for 4 p.m. pick-up ($5 per hour) $40 per week for a 5 p.m. pick-up ($4 per hour) $53 per week for a 6 p.m. pick-up (approximately $3.50 per hour) Late Charges You will be charged $2 for every 15 minutes past your registered pick-up time. 14
