The project will monitor the quality, distribution and flowering patterns of the orchid and compare these with grazing regimes and water table of the marsh land both within the QE II covenant and within the control site outside the covenant where the orchids are doing well. Manawahe Eco Advice $60,000 Bay of Plenty A grant of $60,000 over three years to support the employment of a Development Coordinator for the Manawahe Eco. The is committed to managing the majority of the biodiversity restoration work in the Manawahe Ecological Corridor. The Coordinator will organise volunteer days with the community including high school groups to undertake native trees planting, weed eradication, fencing and trapping. The coordinator will also be involved in encouraging landowners to covenant their native bush. Fish & Game NZ, Advice $60,000 Hawkes Bay A grant of 60,000 over two years to support the East Coast/Hawkes Bay Hawke's Bay Region Freshwater Biodiversity Information Service. The services provides a free service to private landowners to engage a coordinator to facilitates a range of agencies, technical experts and funding sources to design then deliver on habitat restoration and protection projects. Otago Natural History Advice $155,433 Otago A grant of $155,433 over three years to assist with the employment of a Conservation Manger who is responsible for restoration of the private land component of the Ecosanctuary. The manager will undertake weed control, pest & fence monitoring, revegatation and biodiversity reintroduction planning, advice and supervision. Glenfern Sanctuary Advice $2,297 Auckland A grant of $2,297 to conduct bird counts at the same positions and in the same time Charitable frame as conducted in and 2010 on the Kotuku Peninsula. The results will be made available to the wider Great Barrier Island community.
2 ADV-443 Chatham Island Covenant Pest Management Plan Chatham Islands Advice $33,500 Wellington A grant of $33,500 to assist with the employment of a contractor who will develop the Chatham Island Covenant Pest Management Plan. The contractor will liaise with landowners who have covenants, kawenata or protected land agreements, investigate pest control costs/options and then prepare the Pest Management Plan. ADV-446 Habitat management advice for jewelled gecko ADV-447 Ranger Yellow-eyed Penguin ADV-449 ADV-450 ADV-451 Golden Bay Streamcare Project Tuawhenua Biodiversity Assessment and Plan Saxton Island Restoration Plan Marieke Lettink Advice $18,000 Canterbury A grant of $18,000 to facilitate habitat management for jewelled gecko on Banks Peninsula and in the greater Christchurch area. The project will build on previous work to improve knowledge of distribution, liaise with more landowners regarding new sightings, undertaking surveys and providing advice. Previous work of this kind has contributed to the decision of landowners to covenant areas of up to 300 hectares. Forest and Bird Golden Bay Streamcare Group Tuhoe Tuawhenua Tasman Environment Advice $122,939 Otago A grant of $122,939 to assist with the employment of a ranger. The role of the ranger will be to maintain the revegetation programme, the predator control work and monitoring of yellow-eyed penguin on the 's freehold reserves and other private land. Advice $7,000 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $7000 to assist with the employment of a part-time planting co-ordinator to work with landowners on the riparian planting projects within the Aorere Catchment and Motupipi Catchment. The co-ordinator will manage the multiple sites, liaise with the landowners and volunteers as well as ensure all logistical needs of the projects are met. Advice $63,750 Bay of Plenty A grant of $63,750 to carry out a comprehensive ecological assessment of the 8722 ha of Tuhoe Tuawhenua land. A biodiversity management plan will describe the eclogical values and threats and set out possible programmes to manage and implement these. Advice $5,000 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $5000 to assist with the development of a restoration plan for Saxton Island. The plan will be achieved through evaluation of the opportunities and threats for biodiversity and co-ordination of current efforts of existing stakeholders. ADV-453 Ecological Restoration of Pakiri wetlands and duneland Middle Pakiri Beach Farm Advice $15,000 Auckland A grant of up to $15,000 to assist with the development of a restoration plan for the Pakiri wetlands and duneland. A Biodiversity officer recently discovered high numbers of the native New Zealand leech in a small wetland which had previously been ignored thus a full investigation of the 180 acre farm will also be completed. The plan will cover new fencing and covenanting recommendations and the coordination of conservation efforts over the whole farm.

The project will fence the area enabling regeneration to occur. Waiwhero Farm Condition $13,898 Nelson/Marlborough A grant for $13898 over three years to regenerate a 1 hectare wetland protected by Company LLC a QE II covenant outside Motueka. The main focus is removal of weeds such as gorse, broom, wattle and willow trees. Originally this area would have supported species like kahikatea and cabbage trees, as well as other podocarps and kowhai. The owners will plant approximately 2000 natives to restore these and other indigenous species. Blue and Lynley Condition $9,282 Northland A grant for $9282 to assist in fencing a legally protected 30 hectare area of native Newport bush. The fence will exclude stock thus remove grazing pressure on the understory, which overtime will improve habitat structure for species such as kiwi, increase the resilience of the forest and improve the forest's contribution to catchment protection. Wekaweka Landcare Condition $54,744 Northland A grant for $20,248 to assist with animal pest control on 1300 hectares in the Upper Group Wekaweka Valley, Northland. The project will focus on possum and stoat control along boundary lines and will also include educating landowners with the aim of increasing the Kiwi, Kokako and other bird populations. Mullins, Annie Condition $2,500 Canterbury A grant of $2,500 to assist the protection and enhancement of the inanga (whitebait) spawning habitat at Benzie Stream, Canterbury. The project aims to clear the crack willow which have infested the 1 hectare area. Whitebait face multiple direct human threats so actions to safeguard specific spawning areas are timely and a high priority. Tuanui Family Condition $82,983 Wellington A grant of $50,000 will continue an existing animal pest control programme on Tuku Farm, Chatham Islands. The pest control will help increase the population of the Chatham Island tui and Chatham Island tomtit, which are both endangered and have been previously reintroduced by the landowners. The project will enhance the presence of many other threatened birds species including the Chatham Island parea, warbler, shags and oystercatchers as well as critically endangered plants including the Chatham Island button daisy, cooks survey and sow thistle. CON-831A Cape Turnagain QEII National Condition $38,531 Wellington A grant of $38,531 over three years to assist with fencing to exclude stock and remove pampas from 93 hectares at Cape Turnagain. The area is a high-value site containing rare or threatened coastal ecosystems as well as 'At Risk' flora and fauna species.
4 CON-831B Fisher Fencing QEII National Condition $22,545 East Coast A grant of $22,545 to assist with fencing a 52 hectare forest remnant at the boundary between the Motu, Waioeka and Matawai Ecological Districts. By fencing and establishing bait stations the survival of threatened species such as weka and kiwi will improve. CON-831C Hokianga Holdings Ltd ginger control and eradication QEII National Condition $15,000 Northland A grant of $15,000 over three years to assist eradication of the noxious weed ginger in a 96 hectare semi-coastal podocarp & hardwood forest. The area is near Omapere in the Tutamoe Ecological District in the Far North. The forest provides habitat for threatened species such as kiwi and the kauri snail. CON-831D Sandy Bay Kiwi QEII National Condition $32,208 Northland A grant of $10,736 over three years to assist pest management on two significant coastal forests in the Whangaruru Ecological District. Pest management will target mustelid, possum, cat and rat populations in the QEII covenants. The area supports nationally threatened and regionally significant fauna and flora species such as the North Island brown kiwi and pateke. CON-832 CON-834 CON-835 Rocklands Road Weedbusters Project 2 Taramoa Biodiversity Protection Project Parr Covenant, Kaituna Valley Golden Bay Branch, Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society WTS & NLJ Breeze Partnership Banks Peninsula Conservation Condition $184,973 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $184,973 over three years to assist weed control of banana passion vine in Clifton, Golden Bay. The Rockland's road area of Clifton has been identified as a major seed source for the weed. The project will be challenging as there are many limestone reefs with ravines and sink holes however the project team have significant experience to ensure the project is successful. Condition $75,028 Hawkes Bay A grant of up to $75,028 over three years to assist fencing 24.5 hectares of beech and podocarp-broadleaved forest. The project will also undertake weed control of gorse and wilding pine. Condition up to $80,000 Canterbury A grant of up to $80,000 to assist with fencing a 347 hectare section of diverse habitats on Banks Peninsula. The area includes an array of species including significant populations of jewelled gecko and Canterbury gecko which are both classified as At Risk-Declining. The resulting regeneration will link several existing protected areas and create a continuous habitat of approximatley 700 hectares. CON-836 Onetangi F&B Reserve Restoration Project Hauraki Islands Branch, Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society Condition $17,250 Auckland A grant of up to $17,250 over three years to assist pest control and planting of a five hectare site within the Onetangi Reserve on Waiheke Island. The project will maintain and improve the indigenous dominance of the site by removing weeds such as honeysuckle and asparagus. By controlling the weeds the project site will cease being a seed source for other areas.
5 CON-837 Stage 3 Restoration of Tutaepatu Lagoon Te Kohaka o Tuhaitara Condition $40,000 Canterbury A grant of up to $40,000 over two years to assist with weed control and planting in a 50 hectare areas around Tutaepatu Lagoon, North Canterbury. The project will build on previous restoration work and consists of controlling grey willow, old mans beard and blackberry as well as planting indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees. CON-838 The Beeches M. &. S. Fisher Condition $4,980 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $4,980 over three years to assist the control of old mans beard on a QE II covenant which has been classified as 'At Risk'.. The old mans beard infestation is in an area which is at significant risk of being a source of seedlings spreading and the weed is the major immediate threat to the ecological integrity of the indigenous forest. CON-839 Orokonui Ecosanctuary Ecosystem Restoration Otago Natural History Condition $203,365 Otago A grant of up to $203,365 over three years to support the continued employment of two rangers who are instrumental in undertaking the restoration work (in conjunction with volunteers) on the Ecosanctuary. The work will improve indigenous integrity, habitat quality, species diversity and species security. CON-842 CON-843 CON-848 CON-851 Southern Mangarakau swamp enhancement project Harmans wetland project Brooklyn Valley Revitalisation Project Radar Hill Catchment Project. Snake Creek Ltd T/A Wetland View Park Northland Regional Wratt, John and Kerryn Mahinepua-Radar Hill Landcare Group Condition $5,200 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $5,200 to fence the remaining section of a QE II covenant within the Mangarakau Wetland Complex, Golden Bay. The wetland is the largest fertile freshwater swamp in the West Whanganui Ecological District. The area is home to threatened and declining species such as Bittern and Pterostylis irwinii, the South Island fernbird and brown mudfish. Condition $20,000 Northland A grant of $20,000 to fence a four hectare wetland and native bush area in Eastern Northland. Ensuring cattle are excluded from the area will enable regeneration of riparian vegetation, provision of the habitat corridor between coastal and lowland forests and improved pateke (brown teal) flocking habitat. Condition $136,875 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of up to $136,875 over three years to fence beech forest remnants, undertake animal pest and weed control in a 145 hectare areas on the West Coast. The fence will ensure goats are excluded from the site and help to protect important features including rimu close to their altitudinal maximum. Condition $64,141 Northland A grant of $64,141 over three years to undertake predator control and monitoring of Kiwi in the Radar Hill Catchment, Northland. The aim of this project is to protect and increase the numbers of the North Island brown kiwi population and restore the habitat of all native flora and fauna in the area.
6 CON-854 CON-855 Te Moata best practice care of regenerating plant species and endangered fauna Waikouaiti River Tributary, Fencing and Planting, Coastal Otago Te Moata Charitable Condition $6,798 Waikato A grant of up to $6,798 over three years for possum and rodent control in a 344 hectare area in the Waikato. The QEII covenant contains karui groves, swamp maire and old kahikatea as well as a number of threatened and at risk species such as the North Island brown kiwi, North Island kaka and declining species such as the North Island fernbird and Hochstetter's frog. Braes Farm Ltd Condition $4,278 Otago A grant of $4,278 to purchase fencing materials to enclose a 0.85 hectare area beside the Karitane Estuary, Otago. The fence will prevent livestock grazing near a stream that provides a spawning area for inanga. Inanga form the majority of the whitebait catch in New Zealand and are classified as At-Risk Declining. CON-856 CON-857 Brookby Wildlife Habitat Stage 1 Wetland Forest Gully Fencing and fencing off part Papakura Stream Waiaro Sanctuary - Pest Management - Maintain the Gain Auld, Nicky and Mark - Maskell CON-858 Pataua North Landcare Pataua North Landcare Group CON-860 Hamilton Pistol Club Hamilton Pistol Club Gully Restoration Project Inc Condition $5,000 Auckland A grant of up to $5,000 to assist fencing a 2 hectare wetland gully area and part of the Papakura Stream known as the Brookby Wildlife Habitat, Manukau. The area contains many important plant specimens including large mature kahikatea, northern rata, karaka and kanuka measuring 4m in circumference. Threated species such as Little black shag, little shag and longfin eel inhabitat the area. Waiaro Sanctuary Condition $22,900 Waikato A grant of $22,900 to fund a trapping programme in the Waiaro Sanctuary. The Sanctuary was classified as the most important privately owner Key Ecological Site in the Waikato/Coromandel Ecological Region by Environment Waikato. A number of threatened or at risk species are present, including North Island kaka, North Island brown kiwi, brown teal, hochstetters and possibly archey's frog, longfin eel and New Zealand falcon. Condition $73,266 Northland A grant of up to $73,266 over three years to assist with the employment of weed control, pest control and planting staff as well as nest boxes, traps and plants in Pataua North, Northland. The area contains important remnants of kauri, manuka, kanuka, totara and pohutukawa forest as well as supporting a range of nationally and regionally threatened bird and aquatic species. Condition $4,000 Waikato A grant of $4000 over two years to assist with purchasing plants for the Hamilton Pistol Club Gully restoration project. Planting the three hectare steep slope will assist with reducing soil erosion and increase biodiversity values in the area. CON-861 Project Island Song - Mainland Coastal Habitat Restoration Guardians of the Bay of Islands Inc Condition $30,000 Northland A grant of $30,000 over two years to assist with pest management on a mainland coastal habitat adjacent to the Ipipiri Islands, Bay of Islands. The groups objective is to continue protecting the islands against re-invasion and extend protection to mainland biodiversity and habitats.
7 CON-862 Catcha Chatham Heritage and Restoration (CHART) CON-865 CON-867 CON-871 Golden Bay Streamcare Project Protecting a creek that flows into the Kakapotahi Ecological Area, South Westland. Fencing of coastal lowland kahikatea and Forest and Bird Golden Bay Streamcare Group Condition $12,287 Wellington A grant of $12,287 to purchase 100 traps which will be lent to Landowners on the Pitt Island and Chatham Island. By using the traps and recording what has been caught it is envisaged that landowners will be motivated to purchase their own traps and continue pests control in the area. Condition $12,000 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $12,000 to assist a planting project on private land within the Aorere and Motupipi Catchments, Golden Bay. The planting will occur in 16 hectares of newly fenced riparian areas. Gilbert, Katherine Condition $2,500 West Coast A grant of $2500 to assist fencing of a 0.2 hectare section of creek which flows into the Kakapotahi Ecological Area where it joins Granite Creek and the Waikoriri lagoon. Once the fence is complete the creek will be continuously protected from the foot hills to the sea. Stevens, Kelly and Jones, Cameron Condition $3,280 West Coast A grant of $3280 to assist fencing a 1.6 hectare scenic coastal stand of kahikatea dominant mixed podocarp forest. The area provides habitat for a range of native birds and contains a small area of wetland which is under-represented in the Hokitika Ecological District. wetland protection project CON-872 Gully fence Ohinemama Farm Ltd Condition $32,470 Wellington A grant of up to $32,470 to assist fencing a seven hectare coastal gully on the Chatham Islands. The area contains a number of threatened and at risk plant species including swamp akeake, Hebe barkeri and scattered Chatham Island akeake. CON-873 CON-874 CON-875 Protection and extension of forest communities at "Bendoran", Waikouaiti Moerangi wetlands will control stage 2 Mountain Valley Community Bush Restoration Malloch, Dave Condition $40,000 Otago A grant of $40,000 for fencing and pest management of 175 hectares of a diverse forest ecosystem at Bedoran, Waikouaiti. The forest provides habitat for at least two regionally threatened plant species, a range of regionally important plants and animals are also present. Puketapu 3A Incorporation Mountain Valley Community Condition $38,210 Tongariro/Taupo A grant of up to $38,210 over two years for weed control in Moerangi Stations wetland, in the Lake Taupo catchment. The area supports a range of wetland vegetation types which are being effected by the invasion of grey willow, including peat rushland and shrubland. The wetland provides habitat for the North Island fernbird which has been classified as at risk and declining. Condition $21,387 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $21,387 over three years for weed control and planting in a 1.5 hectare QEII covenant on Mountain Valley Community land. The weed control will focus on sycamore, old mans beard and blackberry. Native species such as Coprosma, Hebe and Pittosporum will be planted.
8 CON-876 CON-877 CON-878 Ecological restoration of Kaokaoroa 3B6 wetland Southern Kaimanawa wilding pine control Kapowai Kiwi Pest Management Kaokaoroa 3B6 Ahu Whenua Kaimanawa 3B2A/3B2B Kapowai Kiwi Group Inc CON-879 Matakatau (Waikaripi) Seymour, Richard & Pamela - Waikaripi Farm Partnership CON-881 Rapanui Grey-face Petrel predator fence upgrade Rapanui Grey-faced Petrel Condition $30,404 Bay of Plenty A grant of $30,404 over three years for weed control of the 16 hectare Kaokaoroa 3B6 Wetland. Removal of invasive weeds will restore natural processes, character and stimulate regeneration. The project will also improve the wetland interfaces with the Ohau Channel and Lake Rotoiti as well as improve general fauna habitat in these areas. Condition $62,500 Tongariro/Taupo A grant of $62,500 to undertake a wilding contorta pine control programme in a 4,350 hectare Kawenata adjoining Tongariro National Park, Kaimanawa Forest and defence force land. Continued control of contorta will maintain the site's ecological condition and minimise it as a contorta seed source to the area. Condition $36,000 Waikato A grant of $12,000 to assist predator control in the 160 hectare Core Area of Kapowai, Marlborough. By suppressing predators it is envisaged that the nationally vulnerable kiwi and kaka populations will increase. The area also provides habitat for the Hochstetter's frog and fern bird. Condition $29,635 Wellington A grant of $29,635 to assist fencing along the Matakatau Stream in south west Chatham Island. Fencing will exclude stock and enable understorey regeneration to occur, improving the sites viability over the long term. The area contains a small population of nationally vulnerable swamp akeake and six other at risk endemic Chatham Island species. Condition $65,000 Wanganui A grant of up to $65,000 to up grade an existing section of predator-proof fence in North Taranaki. The fenced area is currently predator free and is ecologically very rare. It contains the only large nesting site of grey-faced petrel on the mainland and there is evidence they are now actively spreading into the reserve. CON-882 Project Kiwi - Kuaotunu Peninsula CON-883A Plasier - Pest Control Programme Project Kiwi Condition $15,000 Waikato A grant of $15,000 over three years to assist pest management on the 2,850 hectare Kuaotunu Peninsula. Project Kiwi have received 77 Operation Nest Egg reared, site-sourced kiwi since 2005 and have strived to protect and enhance the kiwi population in the area for 15 years. Marlborough District Condition $8,000 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $8,000 over two years to assist pest management on a 42 hectare QEII covenant in the Pelorus Sound, Marlborough. The project will focus on possum control which will protect the condition of the kohekohe forest, which is rare in the South Island. The project will also maintain pigs, goat and deer at zero density to allow the understoreys to regenerate unhindered by animal browse impacts.
9 CON-883B Napier - Pest Control Programme CON-883C Hickman - Lake Elterwater Margins Marlborough District Marlborough District Condition $9,000 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of $9,000 over two years to assist pest management on a 47 hectare protected property in the Pelorus Sound, Marlborough. The project site is adjacent and complimentary to CON-883A. The main focus will be on possum control which will protect the condition of the kohekohe forest which is rare in the South Island. The project will also maintain pigs, goat and deer at zero density to allow the understoreys to regenerate unhindered by animal browse impacts. Condition $24,133 Nelson/Marlborough A grant of up to $24,133 over three years to assist with fencing, weed control and restoration planting. The project will be undertaken on a 10 hectare fully protected area on the margins of Lake Elterwater, Marlborough. Restoration of this section of the Lake will significantly improve that part of Elterwater's indigenous character and dominance.
