10 4. TOURIST INFORMATION 4.1 ROME'S MAJOR ATTRACTIONS COLOSSEUM As long as the Colosseum stands, Rome will stand; and when Rome falls, so will the world. One of the seven wonders of the world, the Colosseum, a mammoth amphitheater was begun by Emperor Vespasian and inaugurated by Titus in the year 80. Today it is the symbol of Rome worldwide and is a major tourist attraction a must see! CAPITOL HILL AND CAPITOLINE MUSEUMS The Capitoline Museums, located on the Capitoline Hill - one of the 7 highest spots in Rome- date back to 1471, when Pope Sixtus IV donated a group of bronze statues of great symbolic value to the People of Rome. The collections are linked to the city of Rome and most of the exhibits come from the city itself. [9]

11 VATICAN MUSEUMS Visiting the Vatican is an incredible experience. The Vatican Museums are among the greatest museums in the world and display works from the immense collection built up by the Roman Catholic Church throughout the centuries. AUDITORIUM PARCO DELLA MUSICA Auditorium Parco dellamusica, located in one of the most luxurious district of Rome, is one of the best-known designs of Renzo Piano. Since the inauguration in 2002 the Auditorium, a multi-functional complex with shops, café and restaurants, plays a key role for the roman cultural reality. [10]

12 MAXXI - NATIONAL MUSEUM OF 21ST CENTURY ARTS MAXXI, the first Italian public museum devoted to contemporary creativity, arts and architecture provides not only an arena in which to exhibit art, but a research hothouse a space where contemporary languages of design, fashion, cinema, art and architecture can meet in new dialogue. Three words encapsulate the MAXXI vision innovation, multiculturalism, interdisciplinary. 4.2 VISITING ROME IN OCTOBER Rome is the greenest and the biggest city in Europe with the most important artistic and historical heritage in the world. Rome is a welcoming place to visit no matter what time of year but please bear in mind that May through October sees the heaviest tourist traffic in Rome. The weather is warm (the average high temperature in October ranges from 64 to 73 F/ from 18.0 to 23.0 C) and the chance of rain is low. Autumn time is ideal for sightseeing, dining at an outdoor café, having a relaxing walk along the Tiber river or in the park of Villa Borghese or Villa Pamphili, which is why so many travellers plan their trips during this time. You will not need any ticket to get into the churches, nor to walk downtown visiting bridges (Ponte Sant'Angelo, Ponte Sisto,...), squares (Piazza Navona, Piazza Venezia, Campo de' Fiori, Piazza Mattei,...) and fountains (Trevi Fountain, Fountain of the Four Rivers, Turtle Fountain, Triton Fountain,...). 4.3 PUBLIC TRANSPORT Rome has a safe, convenient and efficient public transport system.
