POPULAR ATTRACTIONS VATICAN & SISTINE CHAPEL Vatican City is the location of the Pope s residence, and is the smallest internationally recognised independent city in the world, by both area and population. Amongst the cultural sites in the city lies the Sistine Chapel famous for its architecture and decoration and the site of the Papal Conclave. Part of the beautiful artwork within the Chapel is the painted ceiling by Renaissance artist Michelangelo.

3 HADRIAN S VILLA This UNESCO World Heritage site is a fascinating piece of Roman archaeology, built in the early 2 nd century. Built by the emperor Hadrian himself, it was an extravagant complex of more than 30 buildings covering over 250 acres, and was his preferred residence when he was in Rome. SAN CALLISTO CATACOMBS Built around the middle of the 2 nd century, the San Callisto Catacombs are amongst the largest and most important in Rome. COLOSSEUM Enchanting history and complex architecture, the Colsseum built in the 1 st century proudly stands in the heart of Rome, attracting millions of tourists per year. The largest amphitheatre in the world and considered to be one of the greatest works of Roman architecture, the Colosseum, originally used for gladiatorial shows, really is a show in itself, an icon for Imperial Rome.

4 BORGHESE GARDEN & MUSEUM Villa Borghese is a large landscape garden, the second largest public park in Rome and is home to a number of buildings, museums and attractions. The Borghese Gallery houses a substantial part of the Borghese collection of paintings and sculpture. The collection hosts a number of important works including outstanding works by Titian and Raphael. CASTEL SANT ANGELO Castel Sant Angelo is a towering, cylindrical building in the heart of Rome. This remarkable castle, originally commissioned by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, has a fascinating history and was once the tallest building in Rome.
