Valérie PÉCRESSE President of the Ile-de-France Region This exceptional R&D potential goes hand in hand with a remarkable higher education system, praised for its quality and opening. Seventeen universities among the most prestigious in the world, like the Sorbonne, along with more than 300 engineering, health, management, architecture, and art schools in Ile-de- France offer a internationally renowned education, providing each and everyone with the best adapted training curriculum. With one student out of four being trained in Paris Region, university life also benefits from a rich and effusive offer in terms of culture and entertainment. Paris Region also stands on the highest step of the podium of the most visited destinations worldwide. Each year, 49 million tourists stay in the region to enjoy its exceptional concentration of cultural and architectural treasures, with four of them being listed as UNESCO World Heritage: the Banks of the Seine, the castle of Fontainebleau, the castle of Versailles, and the medieval city of Provins Paris Region relies on high-quality infrastructures, whether it be care facilities, educational institutions, or cultural equipments. Already among the vastest in the world, the public transport network shall be completed by 2030 with 205km of new subway lines that is the size of the current network of the RATP and 72 new stations. 8 08 > 09 THE REGION S POWERS TRANSPORT In a region with 12 million always more mobile residents, the modernization and upgrade of the public transport network is an imperative. This is why the Region is massively investing in its public transport infrastructures (comfort, security, accessibility ). The Region presides and funds the Ile-de-France Transport Authority (Île-de- France Mobilités), endowed with a billion euro annual budget. The Region supports the development of new modes of mobility like carsharing or biking, while also fighting against the congestion of the road network. Map of the Greater Paris Express With its 125 miles of extra subway lines and 72 new stations, the network of the regional Super-Subway will be doubling its size by 2030, thus changing the face of Paris Region. The Greater Paris Express means four new lines (15, 16, 17 and 18), and the extension of four existing ones (4, 11, 12 et 14). The Region is to complete it by creating tram and bus lines on separate lanes to connect it with the existing network. PARIS REGION

9 EMPLOYMENT The Region is on the front line in the battle against unemployment: it bets on youth apprenticeship by funding new pathways, equipping and overhauling training centers, and encouraging businesses to work with apprentices. It takes the necessary measures to foster the vocational integration of young people, as well as the development of the job seekers and employees qualifications. ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION Paris Region counts on the creativity, energy, and diversity of its businesses, the spearheads of growth and innovation. It accompanies their development, promotes the emergence of a new generation of entrepreneurs, and supports firms going through difficulties. The Region also strengthens and simplifies its innovation aid system; it backs several projects of sites dedicated to innovation like the Station F, Europe s biggest incubator, but also the Futur en Seine festival. With the first AI Challenge Paris Region intends to play a major role in the development of new technology based on artificial intelligence. INTERNATIONAL The Region s European and international action is based on developing the attractiveness of the territory. It manages 540 million euro of European structural funds for the period, and provides Paris Region project leaders with an access to other European financings. Its international action focuses on promoting the Region amongst foreign investors, supporting Ile-de- France companies wishing to export, and maintaining actions of solidarity and development assistance. 10 10 > 11 HEALTH-SOCIAL Increased support to the health-care and social training centers, better allowance for disability, struggle against medical wastelands, and development of the treatment offer: these are the core elements of the regional project to take better care of Paris Region residents. CULTURE-SPORT-LEISURE Cinema, books, live entertainment The Region promotes the emergence of new talents and fosters their discovery. It finances performance sites, venues, and media libraries With its 12 outdoor activities centers, it also provides access to a wide range of sport and leisure activities. HOUSING SPATIAL PLANNING By fostering the construction of housing, converting 100 new innovating and ecological quarters, improving the proportion and distribution of public housing through the territory, and encouraging home ownership, the Region is striving to provide the Ile-de-France territory with a new face. 11 EDUCATION To ensure that school is a place of social advancement, aspiration and success, Paris Region is pursuing an ambitious policy and devoting more than a billion euro to secondary education. It builds, maintains, and renovates all 465 schools of Ile-de- France. Thanks to new aids, it promotes further learning in higher education, where it funds the premises and academic libraries. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT Reducing the ecological footprint of Ile-de-France is a regional priority. The Region therefore implements actions for a better waste handling, an improved air quality and the preservation of its biodiversity, and promotes the use of renewable energies. Pictures.
