The workshop will be based at Domaine du Haut Baran, a lovely country estate in the heart of the Lot Valley, a short drive the the Dordogne region. You will enjoy lovely painting sites, wonderful food & wine and the fellowship of others. The focus of this workshop will be landscapes and village scenes. You can paint at your leisure or work as closely with Terri as you wish. Terri will encourage smaller plein air studies that you can then develop into studio pieces in the studio at Domaine du Haut Baran. We will paint in the studio or on the grounds and travel to nearby medieval villages, market towns and vineyards on alternate days. Terri Ford has been creating award winning pastels for over 30 years. She is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructor, teaching workshops across the US and in Europe. She provides comprehensive demonstrations of her technique as well as generous and personal one on one instruction. Terri is an Eminent Pastelist with IAPS, a Master Pastelist with PSA and Distingushed Pastelist with Pastel Society of the West Coast and Pastel Society of New Mexico. 2 DOMAINE DU HAUT BARAN is an ideal location for plein air painting in the South of France. It is a 2 hour drive from Toulouse Airport in the gorgeous Lot Valley...a short drive to the renowned Dordogne River. The region is full of vineyards, charming villages, historic castles, farms, and the lovely Lot River. Domaine du Haut Baran is a beautiful country home owned by William and Rosalie Haas, (an American, English speaking couple), which they have transformed into an idyllic getaway. William s French heritage makes him the perfect guide, providing a wealth of information about the region while transporting you on painting excursions, which will include the village of St. Cirq Lapopie (voted the most beautiful village in France). Rosalie is an accomplished hostess and prepares fantastic meals!! COST: $ Non-painter companions welcome for $3300. Note: Payment is in US dollars. Everyone meets at 2:30pm in front of baggage claim 4 at Toulouse airport for transfer to Haut Baran. Relax and enjoy a welcoming dinner. Day 2 : Wednesday, August 24 - Breakfast 9:00am. Workshop painting at Haut Baran. Lunch at Haut Baran. Dinner is out at local restaurant ( own expense ). View of Dordogne River from Domme Day 3 : Thursday, August 25 - Breakfast 8:30am. Transfer to painting site ( 14th century bastide town of Montpazier ). Lunch in Monpazier (own expense ). Dinner at Haut Baran. Day 4 : Friday, August 26 - Breakfast 8:30am. Workshop painting at Haut Baran. Lunch at Haut Baran. Afternoon transfer to medieval Puy l Eveque. Dinner out ( own exp ). Day 5 : Saturday, August 27 - Breakfast 8:30am. Transfer to painting site ( St Cirq LaPopie voted most beautiful village in France! ). Lunch in St Cirq ( own exp ). Afternoon visit of Pech Merle Cave with year old art! Dinner is at Haut Baran. Workshop painting at Haut Baran. Lunch at Haut Baran. Afternoon transfer to 14th century Montcabrier. Dinner is out ( own exp ). Day 9 : Wednesday, August 31 - Breakfast 8:30am. Transfer to painting site town of Domme, overlooking the Dordogne river, (pic nic provided, dinner is pizza night out, own expense). Day 10 : Thursday, September 1 - Breakfast 8:30am. Day 11: Friday, September 2-6 or 7:00am transfer to Toulouse Airport for flights 10am 4pm. Note: Be sure to book your flights according to pick-up and drop-off times. Notify your credit card company and/or bank that you will be traveling to France and verify your 4 digit PIN code and account balance for ATM access in France. 3. Visa and MasterCard is accepted almost everywhere. American Express is not. Small shops and the farmers market is cash only. Notify your cc you are traveling to France. 4. The Domaine du Haut Baran does not accept credit cards. Your trip can be prepaid by personal check with a mailing address in the states. See reservation form! 5. Everyone has to fill out and sign our Haut Baran reservation form. Instructions are on the form as to deposit information and where to mail it in the USA. Read carefully! 6. International phone cards are available ( 10 USD ) for calls to USA. Please feel free to bring your own phone. Make sure it has been adjusted to receive coverage in France. 7. The Haut Baran has WiFi internet access. Please feel free to bring your laptop. 8. Laundry facilities available : 10 euros wash/10 dry. No painting supplies in your room! 9. Dress for restaurants is casual. A 5% tip is normal.credit Cards accepted at all restaurants. 10. Artist studio,easels,stools,worktables,solvents,papertowels are available for you. 11. The electric current is 220 volts, 50 Hz AC. To use US devises in France you will need a plug adaptor and/or transformer. Hair dryers are in every room. 12. Bon Voyage! 6 Important : The Domaine du Haut Baran provides only one transfer that is included with the land package above from Toulouse airport to Haut Baran on arrival day (we meet at Toulouse airport in front of baggage claim 4 at 2:30pm). All other transfers provided by Haut Baran from Toulouse airport to Haut Baran on arrival day are at extra cost ( 300 euros per transfer ). What if you miss your flight or your connection is delayed on arrival day? Communicate a delayed or missed flight ASAP. The Haut Baran phone number in France is or or at hautbaranfrance@gmail.com You should schedule your flights to arrive at Toulouse airport as soon as possible ( before noon ) so if there is a missed flight or delay you can catch the next flight and be on time for the 2:30pm meeting time. If your flight arrives at 2:30pm we will wait for you to claim your baggage. Any missed flights or delays past the 2:30pm deadline will require transportation other than that included in the Haut Baran land packag. Here is a list of solutions : 1. The Haut Baran can schedule transportation ( 300 euros per transfer ). 2. Taxi from Toulouse airport to Haut Baran ( 380 euros or more ). 3. Take bus from Toulouse airport to Toulouse Matabiau train station (8 euros per person every 20 minutes). At the train station catch the next train from Toulouse to Cahors station ( 20 euros per person every 2 hours ). We will pick you up at Cahors station and transfer you to Haut Baran ( 50 euros per transfer ). You must communicate to us your alternate arrival plans using the phone numbers above or . Any flight that is scheduled earlier than 10:00am ( 6:00am, 7:00am ect,, ) on departure day will require an additional transfer ( 300 euros per transfer ). To avoid transfer problems we recommend you extend your trip. Arrive a few days early and see Paris before flying to Toulouse or arrive a day early in Toulouse to adjust to French time. 7 Terri Ford South of France Workshop - Recommended Materials Domaine du Haut Baran provides French easels! No need for heavy tripods. I wil use a boxed set of pastels (Sennelier Paris Collection) to elimnate the weight of a wood box but boththe Hielman and Dakota boxes will work with the French easels. Cardboard boxed sets must have lift off lid not a hinged lid. I simply customized the selection of pastels to my taste...photo below. Pastels PLEASE bring these 3 NuPastels; 305 (Spruce Blue), 244 (Blue Violet), 298 (Bottle Green)...and your own selection of pastels Any sanded paper that will accept a liquid underpainting 6x8, 8x10, 9x12 or 11x14 recommended & a cardboard or other lightweight folder Gator board 14x18 for your working surface Tape of your choice and I use 2 blue painters tape will gladly share mine. Glassine, tracing paper or clearbags to store finshed paintings. Shallow plastic ontainer for water or solvent & plastic squeeze bottle for you to refill for day trips. Paint brushes. coarse bristle brushes 1/2-1" wide. Mine are all used oil painitng brushes. Solvent, paper towels and moist towelettes wlll be provided. The idea is to keep it an easy, fun, learning experience! The following is how I will pack... Customized pastel set. Sticks were broken to allow for additional color/brands of my choice. This box goes into carry-on bag. You may be asked to open it by TSA, but that happens less lately. Gator board surface, tape, plastic dish & squeeze bottle, cardboard paper carrier 7 brushes go into checked bag but are transferred to carry on with rollers for duration of workshop. Gator board surface, attaches to French easel for transport on location...all else fits nicely into carry on. I have replaced this red bag with a computer bag that I purchased at Staples...the key is for pastel box to fit.
