Saturday, September 7 We meet at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg for our flight departing at 13:35 to Port-Louis. We arrive in the capital of Mauritius at 19:35 (note the two-hour time difference) and transfer to our resort, located at Balaclava Bay on the island s the north-west coast. Sunday, September 8 After breakfast, we have Sunday Mass. After that we have the day at leisure, just relaxing at one of the resort s two pools or at the beach, or making use of the many activities offered. Monday, September 9 Today is the day we see Pope Francis at the Mass (venue to be confirmed at the time of writing). In the morning we are collected by a private tour bus which takes us to Port-Louis. The bus takes us back to our resort after the Papal Mass. The Pope chose the date because it is the feast day of Blessed Jacques-Désiré Laval ( ), the missionary who evangelised Mauritius. 3 The Church of St Francis and the Shrine of Pere Laval. Tuesday, September 10 Today we have the whole day off to relax or taking advantage of the many activities offered at our resort. Wednesday, September 11 Today we explore Catholic Mauritius with a professional guide. We go to St Francis of Assisi Church at Pamplemousses, followed by a visit to one of the oldest cemeteries on the island. The church is the oldest standing edifice of the Catholic faith on Mauritius, dating to the 1750s. At Port-Louis we visit the Shrine of Pere Laval, with the tomb of the Apostle of Mauritius, a French Spiritan priest who was the first of the country and of his order to be beatified, in We then visit the Cathedral of St Louis, which was built in 1814/15 and promoted to cathedral in We round off our Catholic tour at Marie Reine de la Paix, an open church built in 1940/41 on the side of Signal mountain, where you have a beautiful panoramic view of Port-Louis. Presiding over the church and looking over the city is a 3 metre-high marble statue of Our Lady holding a globe. Before returning to our resort, we have time at leisure in Port-Louis. Thursday, September 12 Today we have the very special experience of a half-day retreat at the beach, guided by Fr Russell Pollitt SJ, our spiritual director, as the waves of the Indian Ocean lap on the shore on this tropical island to remind us of God s creation. We spend the afternoon at leisure. Friday, September 13 Today we have the whole day off to relax or taking advantage of the many activities offered at our resort. 4 Saturday, February 14 We check out of our hotel and make our way to the airport. We are expected to land in Johannesburg at 11:50 am. Breakfast and dinner with drinks included every day. Full invoice is issued days before departure; payment of which is due within FIVE DAYS. CANCELLATION POLICY: All cancellations must be received in writing. No refunds of deposits, except at the discretion of Fowler Tours. TRAVEL INSURANCE: Fowler Tours offers to arrange travel insurance at the surcharge as per insurer rates.. PASSPORT: A valid passport is required of all passengers. Please apply for your passport immediately as passports are taking a long time to process. Make sure to have it in your possession at all times while on tour. It must be valid for 6 months following the return date of the trip or boarding may be denied or entry into the destination may be forbidden. VISAS: No visas are necessary for South African citizens. Fowler Tours is not liable for visa applications by non-south African citizens that are rejected or otherwise not obtained before departure, and in such cases cannot offer refunds. Fowler Tours cannot be held liable for immigration officials denying passengers entry into the country of destination. GROUP AIR: Due to the airlines reduced capacity and restrictive group reservation terms, group air reservations are often difficult to coordinate. The number of connections, length of layovers, and all conditions surrounding air travel cannot be guaranteed and may change before departure.
