First I would like to thank my supervisor Jan Piet Filedt Kok for his unfaltering trust and support. He was always there when I needed him. 5 Deze dissertatie is opgedragen aan mijn ouders, die er letterlijk en figuurlijk altijd hard voor hebben gewerkt om mij te laten studeren, maar die me nooit in een richting hebben gestuurd, zelfs niet toen ik voor kunstgeschiedenis koos!
