3 Euncet Business School Euncet Business School - UPC, is located in a privileged environment: At the foot of the national park of Sant Llorenç del Munt and L Obac. This privileged place meets all the necessary requirements to favor the student s intellectual performance: tranquility, concentration and contact with nature, ideal for Outdoor Training actions and Team Building. The school has more than 1900 m2 dedicated to education and training, classrooms equipped with the most modern technology for teaching support, study rooms, a library, Wi-Fi connection in the whole premises, rooms for teamwork, aula magna, etc. It has facilities for leisure times to favor networking and team building : cafeteria-restaurant, sports center, changing rooms and showers. 3

4 Services and facilities Library The library of Euncet Business School - UPC provides a wide range of books, CD-ROMs, Videos, business and languages magazines, in addition to books dealing with different academic subjects recommended by our professors. Besides, our library provides a virtual platform to search and borrow library materials. Parking It has free parking with a capacity for 200 cars. Besides, the school offers to all its students a free bus service which connects the school with different points in the city of Terrassa at the starting and ending of classes. Canteen service It is located on the first floor of the building. Its timetable is from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 15:00 and from 18:00 to 21:00. On Saturdays, it is open from 9:00 to 12:00. Sports area The school offers specific areas for practicing sport (football, basketball and volleyball), and it also has changing rooms and showers. Global services of the UPC Euncet is part of the UPC, and thus our students can also benefit from the different facilities and services of the university. The UPC-BarcelonaTech offers a series of services and facilities with the objective of promoting leisure activities and sports practice. The conditions and rules for using these services, as well as the facilities offered are the following: - university life: A place to share both cultural and sports hobbies, to participate, to partner, to organize, to cooperate, to enjoy. - sports center : A UPC gym which is located at the North campus in Barcelona. - UPC libraries: You can find the different libraries which are part of the UPC. You will also find different digital books and articles. 4

5 At the beginning of the academic year, and previous to the start of classes, our university (UPC) organizes an Orientation week, (also called OW for short) especially aimed at all international students who begin their stay in our university. This event includes an institutional welcome, information on legal paperwork, sessions with information about the main services of the university which can help you during your stay, an introductory workshop of Catalan language and culture, as well as other leisure and cultural activities, to help you with your integration process in the country as well as the university. The Terrassa Campus of the UPC is the second largest in Catalonia after the Barcelona Campus. Located in an important industrial and economic area, this campus is focused on implementing the acquired academic knowledge into practice. There are four schools in Terrassa; each of them is specialized in a specific academic area. Our students can use the study spaces of any of the schools distributed throughout the town of Terrassa. During exam periods, when teaching lessons have finished, these are a good alternative to study instead of remaining at home or coming to Euncet. For more information, click here. Information 5

This service is aimed at youngsters between the ages of 18 and 35 with the objective of facilitating this group of people access thier housing rental service: Casa Baumann Avda. Jacquard, Terrassa Tel Health and/or travel insurance In order to obtain their student visa, Non-EU students, are required to arrange a private health insurance. Once they are in Spain, and depending on the period for which they have arranged their insurance from their country of origin, they will have to renew it, or contract another health insurance here which guarantees them the medical care while staying in Spain. 9 This information will help you... Cultural aspects In Catalonia, the majority of people are bilingual; hence they speak both Catalan and Spanish. When people meet, they kiss in both cheeks to greet each other. Catalans usually go to bed late; hence you can call them after 10 pm without making them feel annoyed. Lunchtime is generally at 2pm and dinner between 9 and 10 pm. Nightclubs usually get crowded around 2 am. It is quite easy to meet new people between 3 and 5 am. Climate The dominant climate in Catalonia is Mediterranean. There are dry summers, wet springs and autumns, and mild winters. There is also an alpine climate in the Pyrenees, with very low winter temperatures. Calendar of local and national holidays There are some days along the academic year which are holidays and thus, there is no academic activity. 10 Transport - Bus: Our Business School has a bus service during the weekdays connecting the school with different places of the city of Terrassa. It is a private service which does not belong to the public bus network of the city. The bus from EUNCET BUSINESS SCHOOL is clearly indicated with the name of the school on the front window. - Train: There are trains (RENFE and FGC) from Barcelona to Terrassa every 30 minutes from 06:00 until 22:44. The main train stations in Barcelona are Sants-Estació and Plaça Catalunya. How much money do I need to live on? The cost of living in Terrassa greatly depends on the cost of the accommodation you choose. Living in Barcelona is more expensive than living in Terrassa. Sharing a flat with other students is less expensive than student s residences. 12 Welcome to Terrassa errassa! Terrassa is located around 29km Northwest of Barcelona, near the picturesque beaches of la Costa Brava. Limiting to the North with two national parks, Terrassa has a very wide range of offers for the newcomers. What t to visit? Although Terrassa has traditionally been an industrial city, its history can be traced back to medieval times. It is worth discovering what has been left from that age. Several medieval buildings are extended around the centre of the city. An example is the Palace Tower (Torre del Palau) from the 12th century or the Castle- Monastery of Vallparadís. There is also an interesting group of Romanesque monuments of the oldest in Europe made up of three churches: Sant Pere, Sant Miquel and Santa María, whose origins are traced back to the 5 th century. They are located near the city s green area: Vallparadis Park. This park is the best place to practice running, take a walk or simply to relax under the sun. The second park of the city is the Sant Jordi Park, endearing and romantic, in which the Masia Freixa can be found, a building of the modernist period with decoration of the Art Noveau s style in its inside. Another modernist building you cannot miss is the Museum of Science and Technology of Catalonia, an old textile factory, which is found in the Rambla of Terrassa. 12

13 Time to relax The historical centre of the city is a nice pedestrian area with a lot of shops, where you can find everything you want. After the shopping, when you are tired, you can relax and have a cup of coffee in one of the many terraces of the cafeterias of the city. Nightlife Enjoy the night in Terrassa! There are a lot of places to go and new people to meet. The most popular place for students is Rasa Street- a street with various music bars (pubs) and night clubs. 13

14 City of music and entertainment Terrassa has a rich cultural offer. People here are spontaneous and sociable. For this reason, many events take place during the whole year. One of the most popular is perhaps the International Terrassa Jazz Festival. The major event is the Fiesta Mayor of Terrassa, which is celebrated at the beginning of July. Every year, in May, the Modernist Fair of Terrassa is celebrated, an interesting spring tourist experience which allows visitors to travel in time to revive a weekend a hundred years back. Every weekend you can enjoy live music in the night clubs of the centre of the city, in places like the Nova Jazz Cava or the Faktoria d arts. All year round you can enjoy any type of music styles. Every year students parties are organized with concerts, competitions and many more activities. Thus, You are sure not to get bored! Multicultural city People from more than a 100 countries and many parts of Spain live in Terrassa. People with different viewpoints, habits and beliefs. This type of diversity makes Terrassa a forward-thinking city, open to everybody, and to new ways of thinking as well as to progress. 14

15 Second university city of Catalonia One of the most characteristic features of the city is probably its long academic tradition. More than 15,000 students from different specialties make the city the second university city of Catalonia after Barcelona. Thus, Terrassa has a special atmosphere. Communication infrastructures On the other hand, an excellent communications network provides easy access to any part of Catalonia from Terrassa. Terrassa can be reached from Barcelona by car through 2 different highways and two different train lines (RENFE and FGC). There is also an extensive network of local roads. The estimated journey time by car from Terrassa to Barcelona is 20 minutes, 60 minutes to Girona and Tarragona, and 90 minutes to France. 15

16 Surroundings There are also various places worth visiting outside Terrassa, such as Montserrat, Sabadell or two national parks: Natural Park of Sant Llorenç and l Obac and the Natural Park of Montseny. The Benedictine monastery located in the mountains of Montserrat plays an important role for Catalans, both religious and national. It existence dates back to the 11th century and its foundation is related to the figure of La Moreneta, the black virgin of Montserrat. Many pilgrims visit this place every year. What makes it even more attractive is the wonderful views from the top, where you can access by railway, cableway or simply through any of the picturesque routes of the mountain. Sabadell is a city located at around 10 km from Terrassa. It is worth hanging out in the centre of this beautiful and old city and taking a walk in the main road, La Rambla. Sant Llorenç i l Obac is located in a Highland near Terrassa. The natural diversity of this land as well as its awe-inspiring views offered to us makes them a perfect destination for those appreciating beauty and the power of nature. 16

17 Welcome to Barcelona! Barcelona is the only city in the world with nine buildings belonging to the World Heritage: la Pedrera, Park Güell, Palau Güell, Palau de la Música Catalana, Hospital de la Santa Creu and Sant Pau, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló, Casa Vicens and Cripta of Colònia Güell. Barcelona is the third city in the world with more international congresses, according to the International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA), and the sixth global city in tourism of meetings, according to the Union of International Associations. (UIA). A city that never sleeps. Romantic medieval streets, sunny beaches, night life, friendly people, interesting museums, rich and varied culture. and all of this in a city! Welcome to Barcelona, a city regarded as one of the most beautiful in Spain. It is a place you will probably never forget. 17

18 The Rambles It is obligatory for all visitors of Barcelona to go for a walk in The Ramblas. It is the main Street of the city, Plaza Catalunya being in one of the opposite ends, and the Cristobal Colon s monument being at the other end, where the entrance to Barcelona s harbour is found. This place is full of sounds night and day alike. There is a special atmosphere due to a great number of stalls where you can stop to buy flowers, newspapers or postcards. Once in les Rambles, you could also stop in the bustling Boqueria Market. Once you are inside, you won t be able to resist the temptation of buying, fruit, vegetables, seafood and other Catalan specialities. Gaudi s city Barcelona would not be the same without Antonio Gaudi s unusual architectural style, which is a combination of Art Nouveau and a lot of inspiration of nature. Buildings such as Batllo s house or Mila s house look as if they were alive. You should also visit the picturesque Park Güell, not to mention the spectacular temple of the Sagrada Familia. Beaches There are extensive sandy beaches in the Southeast part of the city. The maritime Promenade extends along the coast, full of tempting restaurants in which you can taste a variety of shellfish and fresh fish. 18

19 Gothic Quarter This medieval quarter is located next to The Ramblas. You must get lost in the maze of gothic streets and feel the atmosphere of the place where this city was originated. You can still find some ruins of the roman age. The most important sites of the Gothic quarter are: The Palau de la Generalitat, the City Hall, the Cathedral, the Palau Reial and the church of Santa María del Mar. Magic Fountain of Montjuïc Take the underground from the centre of the city to Plaça Espanya to see the spectacular show of the dancing fountains. Lights of colours and waterfalls accompanied by amazing pieces of music create and unforgettable mirage. You can see it every Friday and Saturday night. 19

20 Night life When night comes, Barcelona is definitely the appropriate place to choose. There are many pubs, clubs, and discos of every musical style. Hence you are likely to find something you like. Thursdays are the best days to meet new people, when many foreign-exchange students meet in one of the pubs of the Gothic Quarter and then, go together to other places of BarcelonA Our Social Networks!
