1 The Greyhound VOLUME 50 I SSUE 7 JULY 2017 The Official Newsletter of the Lone Star Early Ford V-8 Club Regional Group #6 Of The Early Ford V-8 Club of America INSIDE THIS ISSUE: Word From the Pres 1 Minutes 2 Board Meeting Min 2 Sunshine Report 3 Anniversaries/ Birthdays 4 Hardware 4 50th Anniversary Party 5 2nd Texas Tour 6 Ladies Corner 7 Ford V8 Foundation 8 For Sale 10 Important Dates 11 Car Shows / Swap Meets 12 SPECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST: 7/4 4th of July 7/9 Lone Star Meeting 7/11 World Population Day 7/16 National Ice Cream Day 7/19 National Hot Dog Day 7/23 Parents Day 7/24 National Tequila Day 7/29 National Lasagna Day 7/30 International Friendship Day Word from the Pres: Boy oh boy oh boy. What a first 6 months that the club has had. So far this year we have had several driving tours, a Texas Tour, and a banquet to celebrate our 50 years as a member of the National Early Ford V8 Club in addition to our regular meetings. We also have two members of the club that have been in the National Club for 50 years. Congratulations to both Pat Morrow and Stacy Brown. These are the people that keep our local and the National Club going. These two people have achieved something that very few have, or ever will accomplish. In July and August the club will not have a driving tour due to the temperature. Not only do the cars have problems with the heat, but the passengers become overheated and vapor locked too. In September we will once again start on our driving tours. This will give everyone time to get their cars ready for some traveling plus some cooler weather. I am sure that Billy has something exciting for us to do. At the last board meeting there was a discussion of the sending out of hard copies of the newsletter. At an earlier board meeting it was decided that we would discontinue the hard copies of the newsletter and require that if you receive one, it would be electronically. It was decided that we would continue to send out hard copies to those people that do not have computer capabilities. At this time we have only 11 members that will be receiving their newsletters via hard copies. Reason for this is that our banking account is larger than it has been for the last 7 to 8 years and there is no reason to be concerned about postage and copy prices at this time. Over the July 4th holiday, I wish and hope that everyone has a safe holiday and fill up the tires, check the oil, check the belts, and get the flathead ready for the road. Thanks to Pat Morrow who provided me with a copy of the August 1957 issue of the Ford Times. This recipe is from this issue about the Surf that was located in about 2 miles east of Manistique, Michigan on US 2. The Surf consisted of three dining rooms that overlooked the northern shores of Lake Michigan on approximately 250 acres of wooded land. The restaurant is no longer there and after surfing the internet I was able to locate some old post cards of the diner.

The first two tours were just our get-togethers with Houston. It was at the second one that three guys from San Antonio, who had heard about the tours, asked if their club could be included. So, beginning with Salado in 1976, it became the tri-cities Tour. Now some of the bumper signs said Texas Tour before it was officially a Texas Tour, which began in (Submitted by Eunice Stockton) Highlight of this tour: Dogwoods were in bloom and the tour was escorted to an area park by the Palestine police. Although the two were not charter members, they were both members of the National Club in These two are Pat Morrow and Stacy Brown. Congratulations to both of you. You have achieved something that very few have ever done or ever will accomplish. Not sure of when this newspaper article came out or what newspaper it is from. It had to be somewhere between September 1970 and If it is from the Arlington Citizen Journal it is between 1970 and 1973.
