Along with the New Year we also have a new President of the club. For those who have not heard yet, my name is Billy Williams and I will be the new president of the club for I would like to thank Al for all the work he did as president in 2017 and all the work he continues to do as newsletter editor and Vice President for Speaking of the editor, if you have not yet paid your club dues for 2018 now is the time to do so he can get your information in the roster for There are plenty of topics to discuss for the New Year, but the most critical is the vacancy of the Secretary position. First off, a huge thank you to Steve and Sheila McWilliams for their work as Secretary last year and in the past. Now, the club really needs a volunteer to step up and fill the Secretary role. It is not a particularly hard job, as the most challenging part of it is trying to attend all the club functions. Once at the functions, all you have to do is jot down the noteworthy points and then your notes to the editor. So please volunteer if you are able to fill this position. Another important topic for 2018 is tours. We have many club tours already lined up for this year with the first tour happening on January 20th to Yesterday s Diner in Bridgeport (Flyer located in later pages). This is also a very special year for long distance tours since there is the Grand National Meet in Dearborn and a tour to Graham in addition to the Texas Tour in Tyler. A schedule of all planned club events is located in the later pages of the newsletter. Lastly, I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday season. Looking ahead, 2018 looks like it will a very exciting year for club with many great events to attend. So let s get our flatheads running on the road and I ll See you in January! Flatheads Forever, Billy Williams Lone Star Early Ford V-8 Club Website

Respectfully Submitted, Steve McWilliams!!!!ITS THAT TIME AGAIN!!!! Hate to say it, but it is time to renew your dues for So that we can keep our records straight, send the newsletter to the correct place, birthdays are correct (you know the problems I am having with this), and contact information is correct. The dues are $25 per year and if you joined in October, you are covered for the next year. Also you MUST be a member of the National EFV8 Club to be a member of the Lone Star Club. You can get an application or join by going to and click on Membership. This will take you to another area where you can either a) LOGIN I am already a member b) NEW MEMBER I want to join the club or c) Download a mail-in application form. A copy of the mail in form for those without computers is available on page 10 of the newsletter. To make it even more convenient, you can even call toll free Sunshine Report As of the writing of the newsletter, we do not have a Sunshine Lady. If you notice in this newsletter there is a schedule of our activities with tentative dates for each event. This year there will be a Grand National in Dearborn MI. If you have never gone to a National, you should make plans to go to one this year. 4 VOLUME 51 ISSUE 1 PAGE 4 Winter Tour 2018 Date: January 20 th, 2018 Organized By: Billy Williams Where to Meet: Location: Saginaw Walmart Address: 1401 N Saginaw Blvd, Saginaw, TX Time: 11:00 AM Destination: Location: Yesterday s Diner Address: 305 US-380, Bridgeport, TX Time: ~11:45 AM About: For a lot of us this should be a familiar destination! For the first tour of 2018 we will venture back out to Yesterday s Diner in Bridgeport for lunch after a short drive though the country. We had a great turn out to this tour last year as around 25 people made it out. It was a lot of fun having that many people on a tour, lets try to have a great turn out this year as well! Being in January it could be a bit cold, so make sure your heater works (And your CB Radio!). Of course, if there is a threat of ice or snow we will cancel/reschedule the tour. This is a great tour especially if your V8 hasn't been on the road in a while since it will be long enough to figure out any bugs that your car might have, and we are still close to town so there s no danger of being stranded. So dust off those flatheads and get em rolling; we have lots of fun places to visit in 2018 and this is only the beginning. Route: Since we had some trouble getting out of C.R. s shop parking lot last year, we will meet this time at the Walmart in Saginaw (address above) at 11:00 AM. There we can easily catch a stop light to get out on BUS 287. After we get on the road we will take Business 287 north until it merges with U.S We will then take 287 to Rhome to get on Highway 114 which will take us to Bridgeport. Once there we will briefly get on Highway 380 to get to the Yesterday's diner. On the return trip I personally will take Hwy. 380 over to Decatur and 287 back to town, but you don't have to follow. Contact Information Billy Williams:

5 VOLUME 51 ISSUE 1 THE GREYHOUND PAGE 5 From the EX-President First of all I would like to thank Debbie Emmerson for ONCE AGAIN planning an excellent Christmas Party, being Sunshine Lady, and gathering items for Mission Arlington. To Billy Williams for his excellent job as Vice President / Tour Director. Steve and Sheila McWilliams for their job as secretary. If you did not know, Steve would take the notes and Sheila would type them up and send them to me. Special thanks to Sheila for being able to read his notes. To Christina Abbott for keeping the books straight and taking care of our money. Roger Abbott for keeping us straight during the club meetings and the board meetings. To Sam Emmerson for his contribution to the board and as the historian and wishing that you fully recover soon. Most of all I want to express my appreciation to all the members of the club that has made 2017 such a wonderful year. It has been fun, we ve laughed a lot, ate even more, and met a lot of friends. So, what do we have to look forward to in more of the same. This club is the best club I have ever been in! Martha and I are so glad we found you guys. Now with Billy as President, I can t wait for the meetings and going places, doing things and just having fun. This club does so much there is something for everybody so make a point in 2018 to attend something you didn t do in 2017-our tours are some of the most fun you will ever have. You deserve a break and have some fun, come play with us in Our cars hold us together, but it really is the quality of the members that keeps all of us coming to the meetings. If you noticed I left someone out of the appreciations above. I would especially like to thank my wife, Martha, for all of the help, support, and attempts to keep me in line. She has done a lot of work on the outside of the club in helping me and in doing her own job with the club as hardware. Have a wonderful and safe New Years and will see you at the meetings Al Moseley

8 V OLUME 51 I SSUE 1 P AGE Arlington Parade of Lights On December 9th a few of the members of the club and some friends participated in the Parade of Lights in downtown Arlington. The particapents were Rob and Teresa Moseley along with Teresa s daughter Harlee and her friend Amanda, Tommy and Wendy Eddleman, Jeff and Karina, Teresa s friend Lisa, Andy Moseley and his son Aidan, and Al and Martha Moseley.

9 VOLUME 51 ISSUE 1 PAGE 9 Mission Arlington On December 13th, I picked up Sam Emmerson and we drove to Mission Arlington to deliver the new socks and underwear that was collected at the Christmas Party. This is a tradition that the club has participated in for several years. Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex, that started in April of 1986, is a faith-based organization which utilizes hundreds of volunteers and a multitude of services to assist people with their physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual needs

10 VOLUME 51 ISSUE 1 THE GREYHOUND PAGE FORD NUCLEON The Ford Nucleon is a concept car developed by Ford in 1958 designed as a future nuclear-powered car. The Nucleon would have been powered by a small reactor in the rear, similar in design to how nuclear submarines work, employing what is basically a smaller version of a full-size nuclear reactor. At the time of the concept's unveiling, nuclear technology was relatively new and it was believed that soon nuclear-fission technology could be made compact and affordable such that nuclear fuel would become the primary energy source in the U.S. and gasoline would become obsolete. Their vision was to have a completely removable powerhouse (fuel cell) inside the vehicle that drivers simply switched out once the nuclear fuel had been spent. The passenger compartment was pushed to the front of the car in order to provide maximum shielding from the nuclear pile in the back. Even so, the amount of lead and shielding needed to keep the DNA of the driver in good order would have made the car impossibility huge. Ford designers hoped someday the invention of some sort of lightweight shielding would allow the Nucleon to be fully realized, but such a material has yet to be realized. The designers predicted that the Nucleon could travel 5,000 miles before refueling. Once the nuclear reactor was spent, the fuel cell would be removed and replaced with a new one.

11 VOLUME 51 ISSUE 1 THE GREYHOUND PAGE 11 William Clay Ford Sr., grandson of Henry Ford II, with the model of the 1958 Ford Nucleon Ford's second atomic car entry was unveiled on April 20, 1962 at the Seattle World's Fair. The show car contained a lot of pipe-dream technology that has become commonplace today, including interactive computer navigation, mapping and auto information systems, and it featured an interchangeable fuel cell and bodywork. One technology that didn't make it from concept to reality was its power source: a compact nuclear propulsion device. The car also featured six wheels for enhanced traction and fingertip steering, neither of which seem to be catching on today, either. One of the most interesting things about this concept (besides its atomic power) was that it was a kind of modular car. The front of the car was meant to break away from the passenger compartment, transforming a large car into an economic capsule for running around town. I could not find a reasoning for the dual set of front wheels, but I am sure that there is a reason.
