It doesn t seem possible that February only has 28 days. Seems more like 82 days, doesn t it? But with the arrival of March we begin anxiously waiting for the rain to finish washing the salt residue off the roads so we can get our flatheads out for that absolutely necessary spring shake-down cruise. Although, of course, what also seems to be absolutely necessary is a March snowstorm or two just to keep our enthusiasm from getting too far out of bounds. Why that is absolutely necessary, I don t know but it just seems to work that way. As we prepare for another flathead season the 40 th for NORG-- please think about ways you can contribute to the continued success of our club. We need cookie/coffee volunteers for the remaining months of 2009, so a sign-up sheet will be passed around at the March meeting. Here is your chance to try out that new recipe! We also need ideas and volunteers for our after-meeting programs and for club activities. Please let Alex and Debbie (our program committee) know if there are any particular types of programs you would especially like to see. Jeep Iacobucci and Barb Soltis are in charge of activities and would welcome your input. Don t be bashful!! We will be back at our regular meeting place in the Stow Safety Building this month. 3 Minutes From the Meeting of February 20, 2009 Meeting was called to order at 7:40pm Foster read an article on Dave Duda s life with the club, he is sending it to the V8 times. Minutes of November meeting were read and approved. Motion to accept, 1 st Foster, 2 nd Regis. NORG signs to use on old cars during an outing or tour, one on the 1 st car and one on the last, were ordered. Extra signs will be discussed at March meeting. Chairman Reports Activities Jeep and Barb Presque Isle tour in May. Lots of activities in the planning stages. More to come. Programs Alex and Debbie Stahl Open to suggestions. Share your ideas with them since Debbie was a little in the dark on this. Membership Dick and Rose Deyling Rosters were passed out. Thanks to Guy Shively for the print on cover. Thanks to NEOUCOM for the printing and Barb s daughter Debbie for setting it up for us. The books were half of what we paid before. SEMA Representative - Pat Rooney Pat read an article about taking old cars off the road. Old Business: None Thank you letter was sent to Chrome Place for free plating they did for dash. New Business: President wishes for earlier Board Meetings, drive cars more, breakfast in the park, short tours to little points of interest in area. Attend cruise-ins as a group. More ice cream stops. Yum. Joint activities with other clubs: Nifty Fifty s, other V-8 clubs in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Michigan, Model T Club, Model A Club, AACA Classics Car Club and Hot Rod-ders. Shade Tree workshops, hands on experience, open to suggestions for club this year. Talk to President Neal. Foster thanked Dick and Rose Deyling for their work on the roster. Motion to adjourn, Foster 1 st, Ken 2 nd Respectfully submitted Barb Soltes, Secretary Annual Spring Tune Up Cruise Presque Isle PA ~ May 30 & 31, 2009 We will be meeting at the first rest area on I90 into Pennsylvania at 10:00 am Sharp on Saturday the 30th. From there we will travel to the Presque Island Casino for some $&R fun. Next on to the Glass House Inn where we can get settled in our rooms Then again to the Colony Pub & Grille for their great buffet and a visit with our friends in the Nifty Fifty and the Pittsburg V8 clubs. Sunday Morning after a Continental breakfast we will be on our own to do what ever. 5 We have pictures This was sent to me by our Southern Florida Region Membership Chairwoman. There would be a few NORG members, including myself, that would agree with this short but revealing poem. Oh my, Barb & Everett Jordon these are pictures of your great grand daughters Italian Tuna, Green Olive and Tangerine Salad on Grilled Bread Notes: Make Ahead The tuna salad minus the tangerines can be refrigerated overnight. Fold in the fruit and grill the bread just before serving. 1. Ingredients For a great Lenten Lunch 1 medium tangerine 1 (8 ounce) jar Italian tuna in olive oil, drained and lightly flaked 1/4 cup mayonnaise 16 pitted Picholine olives, chopped 2 tablespoons minced chives 1 tablespoon minced shallot Salt and freshly ground pepper 1 baguette, split lengthwise Extra-virgin olive oil, for brushing 1 large garlic clove, peeled 2. Cooking Directions Light a grill. Peel the tangerine, removing the white pith. Using a small, sharp knife, cut between the membranes to release the sections onto a plate. Cut the sections into 1/2-inch pieces; discard any seeds. In a large bowl, mix the tuna with the tangerine pieces, mayonnaise, chopped olives, chives and shallot and season with salt and pepper. Brush the cut sides of the baguette with olive oil. Grill over high heat, cut sides down, for 2 to 3 minutes, or until browned and crisp. Turn them and grill until lightly browned on the second side, about 30 seconds longer. Rub the cut sides of the baguette with the garlic clove. Mound the tuna salad on the grilled baguette, cut into 8 pieces and serve. Yield: 8 servings IMPORTANT NOTICE You may have noticed the increased amount of notices for you to notice. Help needed for 40th Anniversary Group The committee is putting together a digital slide show that they will be running before and during the Anniversary dinner. They are looking for pictures from the early days (remember when everyone looked good in bathing suits & did mischievous things at the Nationals?) till recent (no comment - oh well we still look good and act like kids). So please look through all those old Photos and get them to Regis or Craig. Regis This sounds like it will really be a fun thing to see, especially if you all contribute and we get a variety of photos for sure they are out there. georgene
