GENERAL FESTIVAL INFO It is with a great deal of community pride that I, along with the Canal Days Committee, extend a warm welcome to you on behalf of the City of Port Colborne. By working together, our community offers you a vibrant, active and fun destination that ensures your visit is one that you will never forget. It is a pleasure to present to you our 39 th Annual Canal Days a celebration of our community s Marine Heritage. This year we welcome back the tall ship Empire Sandy, the E.M. Cotter, a working fire boat, the U.S. Brig Niagara and an armada of Lakers travelling through the Historic Welland Canal. From lock to lake, the entire family will enjoy the flavours of Niagara along Historic West Street, an array of attractions and events at our Historical & Marine Museum, H.H. Knoll Lakeview Park, Seaway Park, Lock 8 Gateway Park, Sugarloaf Marina, the Vale Health & Wellness Centre and an exciting line up of entertainment at Market Square, the Clarence Street Connection, and the Roselawn Centre. We hope you enjoy all the festival has to offer. Without the dedication and efforts of staff and volunteers the festival would not be possible. We graciously say thank you for your dedication and investment in our community. The City of Port Colborne, within the beautiful Niagara Region, has become an investment destination. Located at the southern terminus of the Welland Canal, where water meets road, rail, and air, our location provides industry with the ability to reach their business targets. Therefore, not only is our community celebrating our past, but as well, we are celebrating our present and our future as Niagara s Economic Gateway. And a further 14 of these eco-friendly ships will be arriving for duty over the next two years. Lakers already produce less carbon emissions than trains and trucks per tonne of cargo moved. And new ship technology is further slashing carbon and other emissions. The Chamber of Marine Commerce is proud to represent the ports, ship operators, marine service suppliers and customers that are vital to Canada s economy, but also our sustainability. We are delighted to be a sponsor of Port Colborne s 39 th Annual Canal Days Marine Heritage festival, which celebrates the past and present role that marine shipping has played in the development of both the city and the entire Niagara region. Come to our booth at the festival to learn more about shipping and to enter our contest to win a trip aboard one of Canada s new commercial Lakers. 4 CanalDays 2017 CanalDays.ca 5
