Your journey begins as we depart from the legendary whaling town of Gloucester for Maine s Bar Harbor, the once-exclusive resort town for America s most notable families and the doorstep to lush Acadia National Park. Along the shore of this broad thoroughfare, so important to the history of America, you will discover the remarkable gardens, art, history, and scenery of the Rockefeller estate at Kykuit, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, and the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site. In mid-october, the fall foliage of New England and the Hudson River Valley will be at its peak. As you admire the spectacle that nature provides, you will be enlightened and entertained by Stuart Bill Leslie, Professor of History of Science and Technology at the Johns Hopkins University, who plans to lecture on the Hudson River School of artists, the Statue of Liberty, and New England industrial history. Professor Leslie will be joined onboard by William Cogar, a scholar of naval and maritime history, and naturalist Miles Hearn. Together, these experts will present a series of lectures and engage in informal discussions to help you better understand the history and nature you ll encounter on this voyage. Named a National Historic District, the island has retained much of its 17th-century architecture and nearly 40 percent of it is protected conservation land. Many of the grand cottages they built are now cared for by The Preservation Society of Newport County and are open to the public. 5 Bath, Maine Thursday, October 9 YONKERS POCANTICO HILLS YONKERS, New York Sail down the East River with the skyline of Manhattan in view and continue up the Hudson River, whose leafy hillsides will be resplendent in fall colors. From Yonkers, drive to Pocantico Hills for an excursion to Kykuit, home to four generations of Rockefellers whose mansion and surrounding grounds is a National Trust for Historic Preservation site. Explore the impressive sculpture garden and the six-story stone mansion, which houses many works of art, including tapestries by Picasso. Later visit Union Church, adorned with art by Matisse and Chagall and a gem for art enthusiasts. (B, L, D) Friday, October 10 POUGHKEEPSIE HYDE PARK POUGHKEEPSIE Visit the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, conceived by FDR to house the many historical papers, books, and memorabilia from throughout his life. Also tour Eleanor Roosevelt s Val-Kill to stroll the grounds and visit the cottage where Eleanor lived until her death. Continue to the historic Vanderbilt Mansion, a remarkable example of a gilded-age country estate. Alternatively, visit the Dia Art Foundation in Beacon, whose works include art from the 1960s to the present. Through lectures and discussion, they will enrich your travel experience. Stuart Bill Leslie is Professor of History of Science and Technology at the Johns Hopkins University. He will lecture on the Hudson River School of artists, the Statue of Liberty, and New England industrial history. William B. Cogar is retired President and CEO of The Mariners Museum in Newport News, Virginia. From 1983 to 1998, he was Professor of Naval History at the U.S. Naval Academy and Director of the Naval Academy Museum. A published author on naval and maritime history, he is a popular lecturer on our voyages. Miles Hearn comes from a long tradition of involvement in the natural world. Each year he spends as much time as possible in the remote corners of northeastern Ontario, where he has run breeding bird surveys for the Canadian Wildlife Research Centre for over 30 years. This will be Miles second year as Yorktown s onboard naturalist.

9 General Information Payment Schedule: A deposit of $750 per person is required to reserve your space on the tour. For your convenience, you may charge your deposit to your American Express, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard. Final payment is due 90 days prior to departure. Credit cards are not accepted for final payment. However, personal checks are accepted for both deposits and final payment. Cancellations & Refunds: All cancellations are subject to a $300 per person fee. In addition, cancellations received days prior to departure will be assessed a penalty equal to 50% of the total program cost per person. Cancellations received within 60 days of departure are subject to 100% cancellation penalties. Insurance: We strongly recommend the purchase of trip cancellation insurance, which is available for coverage of expenses in conjunction with cancellation due to illness or accident. Baggage insurance is also recommended. In the event that you must cancel your participation in a travel program, trip cancellation insurance may be the only source of reimbursement. In the event of cancellation, delay or rescheduling mandated by any of the aforesaid causes beyond our control, the passenger shall have the option of accepting in lieu of the original tour such rescheduled tour or other substituted tour(s) as may be offered by us, or else, receiving a refund of as much of such advance tour expenditures as we are able to recover on the passenger s behalf from carriers, third-party tour vendors, etc., but, we shall not have any obligation or liability to the passenger beyond the foregoing. We reserve the right to make alterations to the tour s itinerary and to substitute hotels, ships, or lecturers if this is required. We reserve the right to cancel, delay, or reschedule any tour prior to departure, and, so long as this is not due to any of the aforesaid causes beyond our control, the passenger shall be entitled to a full refund of all monies paid to that point if he/she so desires. No refund shall be made for any unused portion of any tour. By forwarding their deposit(s), the passenger certifies that he/she and/or their dependents, minors or others covered thereby do not have any mental, physical or other condition of disability that could create a hazard for them or other passengers. We reserve the right to decline to accept or to decline to retain any person as a member of any tour should such person s health, condition or actions adversely affect or threaten the welfare or safety of other passengers or impede the tour. Baggage or valuables brought on the tour shall be transported, handled or stored at the passenger s risk entirely, and, we shall bear no liability or responsibility for any damage or other loss thereto. Passenger tickets are not transferable and are not subject to alteration by the passenger. No suit shall be maintainable against the carrier, or vessel, for any losses, accidents, damages to person, property, personal injury (including death or other types of bodily injury) of the passengers, unless written notice of the claim, with full particulars, is delivered to the carrier or its agents at its office at the port of sailing or at the port of termination within six months from the day when such incident occurred. In no event shall any such suit or any claim against the carrier or vessel for any losses, accidents, damages to person, property, personal injury (including death or other types of bodily injury) of the passenger be maintainable unless such suit is commenced within one year from the day when the incident causing such losses, accidents, damages to person, property, personal injury (including death or other types of bodily injury) of the passenger occurs, notwithstanding any provision of law of any state or country to the contrary. Resolution of any disputes arising hereunder shall be brought within the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, pursuant to the applicable general maritime law, and applying the applicable general maritime law and Federal maritime statutes.
