Vancouver has been repeatedly voted one of the world s most liveable cities. PuSh Festival performances are located in various venues throughout Vancouver. This guide will provide you the opportunity to explore our eclectic neighbourhoods, each with its own personality. 2 Basic Information Festival Hotels Sandman Hotel Vancouver City Centre 180 West Georgia Street Sutton Place Hotel Vancouver 845 Burrard Street These hotels are situated in the heart of Downtown and a 5 10 min walk from the following venues: The Dance Centre, The Post at 750, CBC Studio 700, Orpheum Annex, Vancouver Public Library, Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza, Vancouver Playhouse; 10 min walk to SFU Goldcorp Centre for the Arts. Transit Translink Vancouver s transit system is inexpensive and reliable. An integrated transit system allows the public to use the buses and the Skytrain. There are two separate lines on the Skytrain: Expo/Millennium and Canada line. Within Vancouver, transit is $2.75. Compass Cards may be purchased at any Skytrain station for $6 (refundable) and pre loaded with discount fares ($2.10). Sky train hours of operation 5am-130am translink.bc.ca False Creek Ferries This ferry operates between Vanier Park, Granville Island, Aquatic Centre, Yaletown, Plaza of Nations, Science World and Stamps Landing. Hop on an Aquabus, a private ferry system serving various points around False Creek and the quickest way to get from the Roundhouse to Granville Island (12 15 min). Rates range from $ aquabus.bc.ca Getting from hotel to the train station If staying at the Sandman, the nearest Skytrain station is Stadium Chinatown (Expo line) or Vancouver City Centre (Canada line) 5 min walk. If staying in Sutton Place the closest Skytrain is Vancouver City Centre (Canada line) or Burrard Skytrain Station (Expo line). Transiting from the airport Transiting from the airport to downtown Vancouver is very easy. Take the Canada Line from the airport directly to the Vancouver City Centre stop (40 min). Hours of operation 5am 1am. Transiting to theatres Festival venues located in Downtown, Yaletown and Gastown are in walking distance of the Festival hotels. The remainder are easily reached by either Skytrain or bus. See details in the neighbourhood section. Taxi services Taxi fare within the city of Vancouver is moderate and charged by the kilometer. Taxis are available in the streets, or can be ordered by phone. There are downloadable apps for our cab companies. Internet is usually faster than phone on busy nights. Unfortunately, we do not have Uber. 4 A. Downtown Vancouver This is the area you area nearest to your hotel. It is also Vancouver s business district and major area for nightlife. Discover kilometres of trails, beautiful beaches, local wildlife, great eats, natural, cultural and historical landmarks, along with many other adventures. English Bay The major beach at the edge of Stanley Park. A lovely beach to watch the sunset. Science World/False Creek Science World is a charitable organization that engages British Columbians in science and inspires future science and technology leadership throughout our province. Grouse Mountain Grouse Mountain is one of the North Shore Mountains of the Pacific Ranges in the District Municipality of North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Exceeding 1,200 m (4,000 feet) in altitude at its peak, is the site of an alpine ski area, Grouse Mountain Resort, which in the winter season overlooks Greater Vancouver with four chairlifts servicing 26 runs. In the summer, Grouse Mountain Resort features lumberjack shows, a birds of prey wildlife demonstration, a scenic chairlift ride, and a 2.9 km (1.8 mi.) hiking trail known as the Grouse Grind, as well as helicopter sightseeing. Year-round operations include a 100-seat mountaintop theatre and a wildlife refuge. Public access to the mountain top is by a Swiss Garaventaaerial tramway. Granville Island Market See page 9. Queen Elizabeth Park Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver s horticultural jewel, is a major draw for floral display enthusiasts and view seekers, and as a popular backdrop for wedding photos. At 152 metres above sea level, it s the highest point in Vancouver and makes for spectacular views of the park, city, and mountains on the North Shore. Lynn Canyon Lynn Canyon Park contains second growth forest with most of the trees aged approximately 80 to 100 years old. The park features a suspension bridge that sways 50 meters above the canyon. It was built privately in 1912 when the park opened. Lynn Canyon also offers a selection of walking and hiking trails that connect to other parks in the region such as Lynn Headwaters, Rice Lake, and Inter River Park. Lynn Canyon is a 30 min drive out of downtown Vancouver 9
