Wheat aocouits for approxiniately 48 million bushels of the present stock and while the receipts of wheat have been increasing in recent weeks the total in store is below expectation. Hopes were held for an early opening of navigation in 1944 in view of the comparatively id winter but a cold March changed the picture and movement down the lakes is not expected to comnence for some days yet. Shipments have been made from Fort William and Port Arthur to Duluth across the top of Lake Superior where the ice conditions were not too bad but the navigation season will not be officially declared open until boats arrive from the lower lake ports for grain. The records siow that the first sailing out of Fort "7111 1am and Port Arthur in 1943 was April 6 with a cargo of barley to Milwaukee but it was about the last week in April before movement in volume got under way.
