STOCKS OF DAIRY AiD POULTRY PRODUCTS, SE'EER 1, 1942 REAMY BUTTER At the openilig of business on September 1, 1942 the Suznary of Creamery Butter in Canada amounted to 50,76,395 lb. made up of Canadian make in Storage 40,337,595 ib; and 2,060,500 lb. in Carloads in the hands of the railway companies. Included in these figures were 2,063,000 lb, as an estimate for firms who did not report on time. When compared with the five-year average the September 1 Summary shows a decrease of 7,3 million lb. Potential stocks of butter ttlfl Bond", not included in those figuros, were reported as 1,073,43 lb. Cold storage warehouses had in store 33,292,251 lb. of the holdings of Canadian made butter, while dairy factories held the remaining 15,095,344 lb. or 31.2 per cent. Total storage stocks of Canadian make were lower than last year by 21.5 per cent or 13,3 million lb. The net "Into-Storage" movement for the month of August was 7.1 million lb. (being 19,6 per cent of the August preliminary production figures) as compared with a similar movement of ll1 million lb. for August DAIRY BUTTER The stocks of this dommodity as reported at September 1, 1942 amounted to 312,171 lb. whioh was an increase of only 3,427 lb. over last year. CHEESE With a Total of 71,327,33 lb (including an estiute of 1,670,000 lb) held by warehouses and dairy factories, Cheese stocks shcwed an increase of 29,7 million lb. or 70.6 per cent over the stocks for the same date a year ago. The net "Into-Storage" movement for August 1942 was 4.1 million lb. (being 14.7 per cent of the preliminary figures for August production) as compared with a like movement of 9.8 million lb. a year ago. A summary of cheese shows that, of the total, Canadian and Imported, only 36,407,209 was available for domestic requirements, as 35,507,038 lb. was held by the Dairy Products Board. CONCENTRATED MILK PRODUCTS Stocks of Evaporated Whole Milk held by or for manufacturers amounted to 21,367,326 lb. which was a decrease of 4 million lb. from last year. The apparent net "Into-Storage" movement of Evaporated Whole Milk for August was 635 thousand lb. The chief by-product, Skim Milk Powder, amounted to 3,350,293 lb., an increase of 523 thousand lb. over last year and a decrease of 140 thousand lb. from last month, EGGS Cold Storage Eggs came to a total of ,735 dozens. Fresh Eggs totalled 1,580,471 dozens. Total Shell Eggs were 4 per cent more than last year at this time. The figures show a net movement of 3,4 million dozens, as compared with a net "Into-Storage" movement of 0.4 million dozens for August Shell eggs in transit at September 1, 1942 amounted to 427,170 dozens. Frozen eggs totalled 16,962,834 lb. being per cent more than the 1941 figures. The net "Into-Storage" movement was 1 million lb. as compared with an voci; of 130 thousand lb. during August DRESSED POULTRY On September 1 total poultry stocks reported and estimated were 5,924,094 lb., being an increase of 3,002,427 lb. over last year's figures. Storage movement for both years showed net withdrawals; 944 thousand lb. during August 19'2 and 431 thousand lb. during the same period last year. Chickens in stock amounted to 761,563 lb; fowl to 549,302 1b and turkeys to 3,64l431 lb., not including estimates,
