4 ` January 21, 2015 Ontario Seniors Secretariat 777 Bay Street, Suite 601C Toronto, ON M7A 2J4 To Whom It May Concern: As Lord Mayor for the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, I am pleased to submit our Age-Friendly Community Planning Grant application in response to the issuance of the Program Guidelines by the Secretariat. Upon successful receipt of such a grant by our community, the Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital Auxiliary senior volunteer team would conduct the work with oversight provided by staff from the Town administration. Since October 2012, the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake has affirmed its commitment to age-friendly principles, communicated with our Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee about a Niagara Age-Friendly Community Initiative, and posted the same on the Town s website. The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake encourages staff and the public to engage in age-friendly events. Today we are in the process of planning a Niagara-on-the-Lake Seniors Advisory Working Group to assist the Town and staff in making decisions on matters that impact quality of life; enjoyment of safe, active and healthy lives; and provision of solutions through the lens of Niagara-on-the-Lake s senior residents. Furthermore, the Town will provide in-kind support for venues for Project Management meetings, Focus Groups, Aging at Home Summit, and Volunteer Training sessions. To actively promote the contributions seniors make to the Niagara-on-the-Lake community, the Town is working with the Auxiliary to establish a new program that addresses seniors at risk in their homes in Niagara-on-the-Lake. The proposed Niagara Military Heritage Centre would be a significant contribution to the preservation of our history and a valuable connection to other heritage attractions. It would also promote the preservation of the Rifle Range lands as a Battlefield National Historic Site. We appreciate your consideration of the proposal and look forward to your favourable response. As you know, Council approved a motion to receive the information provided by the Save the NOTL Hospital group, as well as a motion to continue its support, in principle, for the work of the NOTL Health Services Steering Committee.
