2 2 SHORT TERM VOLUNTEERING (STV)/ WORKCAMPS Short Term Volunteering (STV) also called as workcamp is an international volunteering program where volunteers stay 1 3 weeks for the project. Volunteers work in teams. There are 5-25 for volunteers volunteering together in one workcamp. As IIWC collaborates workcamps and long term volunteering to achieve each project goals, therefore, all workcamp project sites are the IIWC Long & Middle term Volunteering (LMTV) project sites as well. While LMTV projects are open the whole year, IIWC workcamps are organized seasonal (winter, spring, and summer). The workcamp volunteers are expected to be team players, be able and enjoy exploring ideas especially on the implementing part of the project. Two campleaders (or one for small group) are volunteering together in the workcamp. The are volunteers who are selected, trained, and mandated several responsibilities to facilitate and lead the workcamps. However, the successful of a workcamp is determined by the team work. Volunteer will stay in a camp site mostly located in the project site, in collaboration with partners or local communities with the main purpose of exchanging experiences, culture, mutual benefit between the relevant parties. Workcamp is mostly a euphoria event. International volunteers will become stars for the locals as most of Indonesian people are interested to new things/people including foreigners. This way, IIWC takes this opportunity to promote and raising awareness of issues addressed in the workcamps towards specific groups such as local mothers, fathers, students or just public in general. Workcamp is aimed at giving opportunity for international and local volunteers who would like to be involved in the action of IIWC international voluntary service (IVS) projects in seasonal basis.

3 3 The objectives are: 1. To exchange experience and culture, to provide opportunities for volunteers to connect with and learn from the community through enjoyment of local life and exchange. 2. To promote change with remarkable and public action of voluntary works that improves the community. 3. Mutual benefit between the stakeholder, to empower not only the hosts, but also the local communities especially in depopulated areas. Please note that apart from usual participation as international volunteers in our workcamps, IIWC opens extra opportunities for those with special conditions: 1) Volunteers who have experiences in leading workcamps in any countries organized by any CCIVS NGO members have chance to join (for FREE): IIWC Workcamp leadership Training for Campleader (a mini workcamp concept 4-5 days) Further information about this point will be available in IIWC Calls for International Campleaders by the end of March. 2) Volunteers who repeat participation for the 2 nd time in IIWC workcamps, can be in the same year or two previous years, they will just to contribute 170 Euro as participation fee. 3) Volunteers who repeat participation for the 3 rd or more time in IIWC workcamps, can be in the same year or two previous years, they will just to contribute 165 Euro as participation fee. 4) In case of group/bilateral workcamp, one volunteer of that group must be selected as group leader and the group leader is FREE of Participation fee. IIWC expects to have early preparation and introduction between our local campleader with your Locations of IVS Project of IIWC

Before, many kinds of fish and shrimps are living there, but now since the condition of the mangrove forest is getting worse, it is quite difficult to find the species anymore. Fisherman also needs to go further to the ocean to fish and it means much work they need to do to earn money. Mangkang is the project site for IIWC s World Tanabata Action since It is a global project initiated by NICE Japan then was adopted by CCIVS UNESCO in the beginning of 2008 where volunteerism all over the world through IVS planting trees and hang their wishes in Tanzaku paper on a bamboo leaf.

Background: The existence of Ujung Kulon National Park with its native animal the Javanese Rhinoceros is supposed to be supported by the living local culture in surrounded area. This is often neglected due to lack of awareness and economical reason of the local people living in and surrounding. This will be the first WHV workcamp in Ujung Kulon, Pandeglang, Banten in Indonesia. As one of the results of 1 st Asia-Pacific World Heritage Regional Forum of Site Managers and Youth NGOs: Linking Networks conference in August 2012 in Korea; IIWC, in cooperation with Ujung Kulon National Park office ( is to revive a socalled conservation community (kader konservasi) program of Ujung Kulon which is inline with the Young Guardian concept that IIWC established since 2009 in Borobudur Compound Temple.

10 10 B. Project: The project in this site is to help some follow up activities for the Young Guardian Club (YGC) Ujung Kulon National Park which founded on first workcamp in summer This is a strategic issue in Ujung Kulon, to involve local youth to protect Ujung Kulon as for many years forest products have become one of the main incomes for the local people and threatening its food chain which leads to threaten its biodiversity and in the end will deprive the existence of the Javanese Rhinoceros as this is their only habitat. After 5 years experience of organizing the similar project in Borobudur Temple, IIWC is keen to expand the project and invite international volunteers to contribute to the issue in Ujung Kulon. C.
